So since this has been reported by just about everyone but us there's no real new information at all on the team signings front...

There is however some mighty tasty gossip getting around that Australia's most factory website will be running an interview and photo-feature / e-zine on the current World Cup Downhill champion very soon which will include tasty photos as well as actual news and interesting trivia-type tid-bits for your reading pleasure.

Greg Minnaar to ride HONDA in 2004
(25 comments) (link) Wednesday, 19-November-2003  2:32 PM - by DOM
Haro Press Release.

'World Champion Greg Minnaar Released From Haro/Lee Dungarees Team'

Haro Bicycle Corporation announced today the release of Greg Minnaar from the Haro/Lee Dungarees Team.

Haro President and CEO, Jim Ford, made this statement regarding the departure of the 2003 Downhill World Champion and NORBA downhill champion, "Greg is both a great person and a great athlete, but we choose not to match an offer presented to Greg to ride for Honda in 2004."

"Although the financial terms of the offer were significant, money wasn't the real issue. Greg and I talked and after hearing his desire to work with Honda on this project, I felt that it was best for both of us to end the relationship on a positive note."

Greg, who raced only one season for the Haro Lee Dungarees Mountain Bike Team, was quick to praise the team that assisted him to his World Championship title, “Obviously this was a difficult decision for me after having had such a great year with the Haro team and all they have done for me. I have been very fortunate in my career already, and I am very much indebted to all at Haro for their support and genuine loyalty this year".

Currently, Haro has no plans to replace Minnaar and will instead rely on Australian team-mate Mick Hannah to pick up where Greg left off in downhill and 4X competition.

The Haro Team enjoyed its best season ever in 2003 thanks to Minnaar's accomplishments and another NORBA title in Short-Track won by Canadian Seamus McGrath.

Cross-country and short-track rider Chris Sheppard and 4X specialist Mike King are expected back, along with Hannah and McGrath for the 2004 season.

Check out the pic of the Bad Boy Greg will be developing when his Honda deals goes public. Imagine this bad boy "bling bling"

Once again as stated in the Commencal signing... good to see another BIG BIG player enter the MTB racing circuit. Honda will surely throw some money into the sport.

Thanks Vic riders

Thanks to the 2 newbys who turned up to help at the working be at Eildon on Sunday. Socket and Jeff, we appreciated the help! Other than that though it was pretty dissappointing with only 5 of us there in total- not really enough to get heaps done.

However, there are some AWESOME changes and upgrades planned for the track before the Nationals. The only way these can happen is if more people get off their asses and lend a hand. Great tracks rarely, if ever happen without anyone lifting a finger- more often than not it is the same few people who do all the work for the rest of you to ride. These people are volunteers who are willing to give up their time in order to further the sport by building quality tracks.
Do you want the an awesome Nationals track or not?
f you do then I would suggest you try to make the time to come to the next working bee. I will try to give a bit more notice next time.

Thanks.
Cindie

Rumours have it that Shawn "Napalm" Palmer will make a come back next year for the 04 season.
Apparently Palm is testing out some Turner bikes.
Will Palmer come back? will he be able to keep up with our Aussie Guns?
It would be hella cool to see him punk the scene.
Well keep an ear out for it.

US Open to return for 2004!
(1 comments) (link) Tuesday, 11-November-2003  12:49 AM - by Ryan
TerraLogic Park Industries announced today that Diablo Freeride Park in Vernon New Jersey will host the 2004 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking May 29th - 30th, featuring a $5,000 cash prize to first place downhill finishers.

"Our goal is to attract high caliber riders by offering them the type of cash purse they clearly deserve", said Clayton Harper of Diablo Freeride Park. "We are a small organization, but we still managed to put together a substantial purse, it can be done".

The event will continue with its unique open Pro-Am format for 2004 and will run on the weekend between the Big Bear NCS NORBA race and the Fort William World Cup.

A $US5000 payout to the winning rider? It's a shame the Aussie dollar is doing so well at the moment because one lucky Aussie is on track for one hell of a sweet pay day

Rumours of the demise of DH racing have been greatly exaggerated it would seem.

Hill Takes Out Australian National Champs
(10 comments) (link) Monday, 3-November-2003  12:22 AM - by Scott
Update: Rennie didin't in fact crash in qualifying, "he made it to the final and didn't finish because his bars came loose after landing one of the jumps in the middle section of the course." (Thanks Chris)

Sam has taken the title ahead of Joel Panozzo and Mick Hannah. The mud stricken track sorted alot of the local riders out, leaving the more experienced pro riders to clean up. Noted absenses from the main race were Rennie (crashed out in qualifying), and Kovarik (Moto injury).

Farkin's own Lindsay Klein has taken out the U/19's event ahead of Amiel Cavalier.

PMBC have a short writeup here.

More results as they are available.

Hill re-signs with Ironhorse/Madcatz
(4 comments) (link) Monday, 3-November-2003  12:09 AM - by Scott
Junior World Champ Sam Hill has signed with the Ironhorse/Madcatz Team for another two years. This puts to rest rumours that he might be looking elsewhere for sponsorship next year.

World Cup champion Rennie remains unsigned, hinting that he is probably looking for greener pastures (and why wouldn't he). This info from Velonews.
