Velonews.com have the team lists for the Jeep King of the Mountain series.
Mick Hannah and Katrina Miller will be representing Australia in the series, though velonews.com are calling for a second Aussie team to be entered, which sounds like a good idea to me. |

Well Stikman has arrived in Fort William and has uploaded some goss and some facts on his website. Kovarik and Hannah have been ripping it up apparently and the course looks awesome from his reports. Peaty has a Sore wrist still and with reports from some riders about "Arm pump" we could maybe see a replica of last years World Cup kick off.
Jump over to www.stiksandstones.com to check it all out.

Everybody get down, this is a newspost hijack!
OK, so Dom mentioned before about live coverage from Fort William on the internet and after a little investigation, I found that High TV are the group taking this on. So head on over to their site, register to be notified when the Fort William coverage comes on and you'll get an email telling you when High.TV starts it's broadcast. I've checked the video / audio stream out and it's of a high quality, so if you've got broadband you'd be mad to miss the chance to see it.

The first round of the UCI World Cup kicks off this week, with the worlds best riders converging on Fort William to contest DH, 4X and XC events.
"So what's farkin.net going to do to make my World Cup experience better?" you ask, well for starters we've got a timetable for the weekends events in both GMT (WC local) time and in AEST for the Aussies amongst us.
Last year's World Cup round in Fort William saw home town favorite Steve Peat take a nasty fall in the final, runing the dream of a Brit on the podium at the first British World Cup round.
The win was taken by a rampaging Chris Kovarik, who stormed the final to win by 14 seconds, that's right, 14 seconds, it still blows me away.
So stay tuned for news on qualifying and racing in both DH and 4X as farkin.net brings you all the goss, results and a race report from one very fast Madcatz rider.
Farkin.net, unlike so many websites out there this one is updated all the time. |

The Worlds Longest Downhill race is on again on the 21st and 22nd of June. The Below paragraph is from the organisers of the event The Golden Cycling Club.
__________________________________________________ ___
June 22 — the longest day of the year. The Golden Cycling Club has chosen this date to have enough daylight to pull off the longest single-track downhill mountain bike race in North America. Bar none, it’s the toughest, steepest, nastiest race going: 4,500 feet, 12 kilometres of dirt surfing, drops, hits and a short, strenuous uphill push thrown in to keep you honest. When you cross the finish line, that feeling of elation is not about how quickly you finished the course, but simply that you survived.
__________________________________________________ ____
Jump over to Pinkbike for more information on the event. If you know anybody who rides in this area be sure they are going if you have too much money for your pockets and are not willing to sponsor someone from farkin to participate then go yourself !!!. This would be a killer event and a real test of your physical abilities.

NRG are holding their end of month race again this weekend (25th) and this time it's going to be a 4X race at the recently face lifted Lobb St track. Jason aka Blacky, Tim aka T Dog, the build master Roadie Rob and a host of other NRG crew got together on the weekend with a bob cat and the result is a fresh clean sexy looking 4X track. Racing details can be found @ www.nrgcycles.com.au
Should be a great gathering on what looks to be a great new track. Big props to Jason, Tim, Rob and crew from NRG for the work put into this venue for the racing this weekend.
Lets see a nice big turn out so the racing is nice and competitive. Myself and most of the FARKIN crew should be attending so well see everyone there. Hopefully the new bike is ready to rock.

He's pro, he's damn fast and team Madcatz / Iron Horse rider Jared Graves is pretty bloody handy with the keyboard too.
Jared checks in with his report on last weekends NORBA NCS opener at Big Bear lake in California. With a 6th place in the Downhill and a quarter-finals appearance in the Mountain Cross it was a fantastic weekend for Jared and judging by the results, a top weekend for all the Aussies competing.
A big congratulations to Jared and to all the Aussie riders from all the team at farkin.net, you're doing the country proud fellas! |
|
For those stat freaks like myself who want to know how every bloody rider went and how much 20th place was beaten by first. Jump over to www.cyclingnews.com For their report and a full results listing.
Stay tuned though because the only report that counts, yeah the one from someone who actually placed sixth in the Pro Mens Downhill is (hopefully) on it's way! On to it Jared.

Full results are in from the Big Bear DH with Aussie riders dominating the top 10, taking out 3rd right through to 8th.
3rd - Chris Kovarik (Intense)
4th - Sam Hill (Madcatz / Iron Horse)
5th- Mick Hannah (Haro / Lee Dungarees)
6th - Jared Graves (Madcatz / Iron Horse)
7th - Nathan Rennie (Madcatz / Iron Horse)
8th - Johnny Waddell (SunRace / Santa Cruz)
Full Mountain Cross results are now available, check out the mens and womens results, plenty of Australian riders feature on the lists, including one Scott Sharples towards the end of the mens list.
Not bad for a weekends racing, I'm guessing team Madcatz are pretty happy with their off season acquisitions. Well done to all the Aussie boys and an extra well done to farkin.net's foreign correspondent Jared Graves. Ripping it up boys. |
|
The results from the NORBA NCS Downhill at Big Bear are in and still so hot off the wire I burnt my hands grabbing them...
It's been a massive weekend for veteran pro Eric Carter, with a win in the men's Pro Downhill today which will sit nicely with his victory in the men's Pro Mountain Cross yesterday.
Carter's time of 3:22:77 was enough to hold out reigning World Cup Champion Steve Peat, who was the only other rider to go under 3:23 in the finals, last years Big Bear DH winner, Team Intense's Chris Kovarik rounded out the podium.
In Downhill qualifying earlier in the day Haro riding Aussie, Mick Hannah recorded what would be the days quickest run, a 3:22:64 to qualify fastest. Number two qualifier was Steve Peat with farkin.net correspondent and Madcatz / Iron Horse rider Jared Graves in third.
In the women's Pro Downhill, Marla Streb qualified fastest followed by Tracey Moseley and Tai-Lee Muxlow.
In the women's final, Moseley stepped it up a notch to take the win with Muxlow in second and Fionn Griffiths third.
Sorry for the extremely generalised update, stay tuned to farkin.net for full results as they come to hand. |

It's a sad day when something like this happens, Japanese Downhiller Haruko Fujinaka crashed on a step down, landing head first. Due to the injuries she sustained, she later died.
This is something no-one wants to hear nor see, but it is the risk we take on when pushing the boundries of ourselves and the bikes we ride.
Condolences to family and friends from every mountain biker pushing their own limits. |
|
A Japanese female rider has been seriously hurt following a bad crash on a big step down at big bear. After landing head first, she was revived on the scene and taken to the hospital.
I am awaiting reliable confirmation on her health, but things do not sound good.
Wish her all the best. |
|
Pro Mountain Cross has been contested at Big Bear and the results are in. Taking the win in the Pro Men's event was Hyundai / Mongoose rider Eric Carter, beating out Brian Lopes, Chris Powell and BMX crossover Neal Wood with a great start to take the win.
In the Pro Women's event, first place qualifier Jill Kintner continued her good form to take first place in the final from Katrina Miller, Tara Llanes and Tracey Moseley.
Check out this report from Velonews.com for full details on the Mountain Cross action. |
|
The coverage from the first NORBA NCS DH round at Big Bear Lake is starting to roll in.
This thread at dhrace.com has some great photos plus a bit of a recap on practice, including the dirt on one seriously scary sounding crash by a female rider. The Stikman is reporting that April Lawyer had a freak crash in practice, breaking her collarbone and sidelining her for a while.
Pro Mountain Cross qualifying is over, with Mick Hannah grabbing second place in the mens, Brian Lopes taking the top position and Eric Carter in third.
Tai-Lee Muxlow took out third place in women's qualifying, behind Tara Llanes and Jill Kitner.
Also kicking about is the news that NORBA have won a concession from the UCI, granting UCI points to all top 10 finishers in NORBA events. I couldn't track down the official press release but Transcend have a good summary of the deal, for everyone to check out. |
|

For those who have been on the forums this will be old news, but for those that haven't farkin has alternate face for those who do not like the word 'farkin' all that much (for various reasons such as being at work etc).
Anyhow, meet farkin's twin sister www.future-edge.net.
Both websites have the exact same content, just different names. |

If your keen to see some Red Bull Downtown photo's check out, stiksandstones.com Stik has some nice photo's of what looks to be the after party scene. Also check out araiglobal.com with some nice race action photos of the Arai Global team thanks to Flipper.
Good luck to all the Aussies taking part in the Big Bear Norba this weekend. Also a special good luck to Shane Wode who has made his way over to the US to add to the already deadly Aussie DH lineup.
Should we bet on how many aussies will be in the top 10 ?

German brake-experts from Magura annonunced a new freeride fork last week. The OnepointFive-only fork will be named "Thor" and will be available in a thru axle version only. Suspension will be adjustable from 110-150 mm. I'm not sure what other people think, but the more forks available the better! We should start seeing these babies around november.

Pro photographer Shawn Spomer has kindly released some of his photos of the 2003 Sea Otter Classic, which just happen to be the best photos from the Otter I've yet seen.
Check them out in this gallery, then get on over and check out Shawn's website 164productions.com.
I'm not kidding, go check his website out, this guy absolutely kills it behind the lens and has, in my opinion, some of the best MTB racing photos I've ever seen.
Big thanks to Shawn for making these pics available, they are awesome, racing is fun and people do deserve to see them. |

Thanks to Stikman for posting news that our Australian Junior World Downhill Champ Sam Hill (Iron Horse\Mad Catz) has nailed 1st place at the Boulder City DH on the weekend. Sam beat 2nd place David KLAASSENVANOORSCHOT (that name competes well with alot of Indian cricket players) and Maxxis rider Colin Bailey filled the bronze position.
Sam sure is on the gas and will no doubt be a force to be feared in the openning World Cup round in Fort William.
Nice one Sam, flying the Aussie flag !

Thanks to Dylan for taking the time to answer my questions on the Mudcows 4 project in the works. It's about time we saw another "Crazy Cairns Carnage film" and im sure the upcoming release will no doubt keep us happy. After watching some of the raw footage while Dylan was in Brisbane I can tell you it's going to be awesome and will display some of the antics of our pro downhillers that other videos just don’t capture.
Thanks heaps to Dylan for giving us a brief idea of what to expect.
Who is in Mudcows 4?
All the Aussie Pros' in particular: Mik Hannah, Chris Kovaric, Bryn Atkinson and Sean McCarroll, they will all have significant coverage.
As well as a host of Cairns Carzies, including the man himself, Bigg Jumps Benny Bramham. There will be footage from a couple of last years World Cups and hopefully some coverage from the Australian national scene as well....but i don't want do give too much away at this stage..hahha
What can we expect?
Very much a lifestyle video, following roughly the mudcows format of previous videos, with a few new sections, crazy antics and plenty of bonus footage for the DVD, the party at McCarroll's house is a must see!!
An approximate completion date?
Hopefully Xmas '03, but your never know about these things.......
Price?
approx.....VHS $40 DVD $50
Music?
Music is always changing, one minute something works and then you look at the section a month later and your over it. We're just trying to find the right mix of music that will last the test of time. But we'd like to keep an Aussie flavour to the vid.

A crash at the Australian Track Cycling Championships in Sydney yesterday (Sunday May 4th) has left Aussie 4X superstar Wade Bootes with a broken collarbone, putting him in serious doubt for the majority of the 2003 World Cup season. For all you Aussies, the crash was actually featured in the ABC news coverage of the championships last night but there was no mention that Bootes was involved. Check out the full details at cyclingnews.com and a big thanks to Turley for the heads up on the news.
Velonews.com have posted a mighty entertaining editorial on the evaporation of sponsors dollars from this years NORBA NCS series, certainly makes for a good read. |

Velonews have released information of a new Dual Slalom series sponsored by Eclipse TV and JEEP. The new racing series called the JEEP KOM ( King of the Mountain ) event is set to run of 3 different events and locations and is being specifically designed with TV coverage in mind. The event can do nothing but good for the Mountain bike industry after the recent Norba news and Telluride WC event cancellation.
Jump over to www.velonews.com for more information on the event with detailed dates etc.
Also while surfing go and check out STIKANDSTONES.COM Stikman has just posted a cool interview with 2003 Sea Otter DH winner Mike King. An interesting read on an extremely successful BMX\MTB professional racing career. Stik also has some goss on riders who may be preparing teams for the above-mentioned JEEP KOM series.
And finally to All those competing at the MTB PARK race today good luck and hope the racing is clean and dry.

 | 2003 Australian Mountain Bike Championships (10 comments) (link) Friday, 2-May-2003 2:30 PM - by DOM | |
|
I just got this email from MTBA
explainning what is happenning with the 03 Championships etc.
MTBA and AMBA, in conjunction with key members of Team Mt. Beauty and the
National Championships event managers at Mt. Beauty have confirmed that the
dates for the rescheduled Australian National MTB Championships will be the 29th
October - 2nd November 2003 and will be hosted at Mt. Beauty in the Victorian
highlands.
The rescheduled Nationals came about due to the devastating bush fires that
burnt through the area earlier in 2003, taking with them the Nationals XC and DH
courses.
In a recent teleconference everyone agreed that these dates were the best ones
to move forward from what has been a very unusual and difficult race season.
Tony Scott, president of MTBA said, "The reconstruction of the courses is
progressing well and it is expected that with recent rains and in the fullness
of time the area will be picture postcard material come race day." He added,
"Both MTBA and AMBA are very aware of the fact that the dates for the
rescheduled Nationals may effect some people, particularly those in the U19 age
classes due to their school commitments. We do apologise for this, but this race
season has been extraordinary in many ways and circumstances beyond our control
have acted in to the detriment of some of our key MTB events earlier this year.
Such circumstances are unlikely to happen again for quite a while, but we need
to move on. The new dates, while not optimal - those would have been the planned
dates in February, but are the next best set of dates - dates that accommodate
Team Mt. Beauty as the national's host, and the majority of riders."
MTBA and AMBA would encourage all those that may be affected by the November
dates to discuss their plans for the event with their parents and coaches and
make the appropriate decision. Scott added, "We are hopeful that with the long
time frame, and with suitable planning, most of our emerging athletes will be
able to attend and be part of the 2003 National MTB Championships."
Damian Grundy, head Cycling Australia MTB Coach said, "Make no mistake, these
are the 2003 National Championships, and everyone wants to do well, to be
noticed and to take home a National Championship jersey."
Further details on the event program will be available soon, and any
clarifications needed can be obtained by contacting MTBA at
info.mtba@mtba.asn.au.

As was first thought, lack of sponsorship caused the downfall in the latest of mtb race casualties:
"basically the lack of a title sponsor for the event led to its demise. I don't know all the exact details, but it's definitely not happening."
