Peat, Griffiths win Mt St Anne DH, Miller, Carter take 4X.
(6 comments) (link) Sunday, 29-June-2003  3:50 PM - by Ryan
All the racing for the weekend is over at Mt St Anne, with Steve Peat storming back from injury to take his first World Cup victory of 2003 from Greg Minaar and Cedric Gracia.

Apparently the finals were crash-packed, with John Waddell having the worst off of the day and being stretchered from the course still unconcious.

Aussie riders still littered the top 10, with Mick Hannah 4th, Nathan Rennie 5th, Joel Panozzo 6th, Sam Hill 7th and Chris Kovarik 9th.

Thoughts and best wishes to John Waddell for a quick recovery.

Fionn Griffiths took out the womens DH from Tracey Moseley and Marla Streb, with Aussie girl Tai-Lee Muxlow coming in 7th.

In the 4X, Aussie rider Katrina Miller extended her already substantial lead in the World Cup points race, taking out the final ahead of Jamie Lilley, Mio Suemasa and Jill Kitner.

In the mens 4X Eric Carter continued his impressive form this season and extended his own World Cup points lead, taking the win from Cedric Gracia, Wade Bootes and Brian Schmidt.

New Photo Gallery
(5 comments) (link) Thursday, 26-June-2003  2:50 PM - by Scott
After deciding that the old gallery is too clumsy and messy for our needs, I have installed a new Photo Gallery package. You can find the new gallery by either clicking on the 'New! Photo Gallery' link on the main website nav, or by clicking on the 'Album' link in the main forum nav.

Each user is allowed 20 images in their own 'Personal Gallery.' There are also public galleries for quick perusal.

I will leave the old gallery up for 2 weeks and then delete it. Please save images you want to keep from the old gallery, and re-upload them to the new gallery if you want.

The photo forums will remain, I will update the guide on how to post images based on the new package when I have time.

Sunshine Series DH Rd 2 - Ipswich This Weekend
(0 comments) (link) Thursday, 26-June-2003  10:40 AM - by DOM
This is just a reminder to all our Brisssy Homeys that the 2nd Round of the Sunshine Series DH is on this weekend at Blackstone ( Ipswich )

Rumors have it the NRG Boys have been busy building a new finish to the state DH track which should be alot safer to ride rather then the rutty "death drop" as some like to call it.

The Farkin crew will be their both racing and supporting so it should turn out to be another great round of DH racing. For more information on times location and entry form visit www.nrgcycles.com.au

As Roadie Rob explained in another thread any transport problems to Blackstone can be knocked out by catching a train ( with your bike ) to the Bundamba station which will then leave you with a light 2.5k ride to the corner of Thomas and Mary Streets ( Blackstone )

Hope to see everyone their having a go whether it be supporting or racing.

Catch ya there.

Norba # 3 Results - MT Snow Vermont
(13 comments) (link) Monday, 23-June-2003  09:30 AM - by DOM
Cedric Gracia has taken out the 3rd round of the NORBA NCS in Mount Snow Vermont.

Gracia had a small off in his final run, which ripped his saddle from his rails but in true showman style he remounted to flog the rest of the course to pip the "In form and hammering" Stomper (Nathan Rennie) for the highest step on the podium.

Rennie is truly riding at his best with a 2nd this weekend straight off the back of a World Cup Win in France and Mick Hannah looks like hes back from a shoulder injury and ready to start charging again after claiming 4th spot for Haro Lee Dungarees.

Our Jr World Champ, Sam Hill grabbed with another top 10 finish in 7th for Madcatz/Iron Horse with dark horse Joel Panozzo (WTB-Santa Cruz) sliding into 9th.

Once again, Aussies are all over the Top 10 at a NORBA which is awesome to see.

In the women's DH, Lunachix' Marla Streb took the win, half a second ahead of Trek-Volkswagen rider Mio Suemasa. Streb and Suemasa must have been seriously on it, as third placed Kathy Pruitt came in nearly nine seconds down on Suemasa's time.

Australian Tioga-Orange rider Tai-Lee Muxlow grabbed 7th place in the women's DH, another solid finish for Mux who is having a killer season.

In 4X news, Kovarik although not showing in the top 10 in the DH, took 2nd in the 4X just behind Mongoose-Hyandai's Eric Carter and ahead of Haro Lee Dunagarees Mike King and Kona-Clarks Fabian Barel in 3rd and 4th.

I'm not sure what happened to CK in the DH but stay tuned to Farkin for the goss and full results to come. Shows how versatile CK really is as he can podium both events at anytime.

Aussie 4X Queen Katrina Miller grabbed a 3rd place in the womens 4X event. Great to see.

Another great showing from our Aussie boys and girls in all events on the weekend, keep charging guys!

We're back!
(2 comments) (link) Monday, 23-June-2003  08:32 AM - by Scott
Sorry for the downtime, hopefully this will be the last we have for a long time. The ISP that hosts our website was put on a chartered 737 yesterday (along with an entire data center) and moved to a different location. Unfortunately, we didn't hear about this until a few hours into the operation. Anyhow, the new move should get rid of the problems we had previously (small stints of downtime).

Farkin this week: I have a few plans that I will be implementing this week sometime that should make farkin just that bit better. Also, the forums will be upgraded (version) to fix some problems some people have been having.

I hope everyone had a great weekend....

KOVARIK Wins #2 Norba
(7 comments) (link) Monday, 16-June-2003  09:54 AM - by DOM
Chris Kovarik has dominated on one of the most challenging courses in the world to take the points in round 2 of the Norba National Championships series in West Virginia USA. Riding safely yet fast and solid, Kovarik sat in the Hot Seat for a lengthy period to eventually come out victorious. The course being labelled as extreme and seriously steep in sections was also muddy and rutted from the weeks worth of rain it had received. Well done to CK for bringing it home again for the Aussies.

"I gave it 100% today," Kovarik remarked. "I didn’t make any mistakes, I thought the rain was going to make it harder but the rain washed the mud off the roots and some of the rocks and it was a little more grippier. The previous two times I’ve raced here I didn’t do well, this weekend I was determined to finish on a good note and everything came together for me, so I’m pretty happy with that." - www.cyclingusa.org

John "Shooter" Waddel (AUS; ITS-Santa Cruz) took out 4th and Joel Panozzo (AUS; WTB Santa Cruz) 5th - Well Done Boys !!!!.

Marla Streb took it out for the Womens.

Full Results to be added to this post Shortly.

Norba Round 2 - W Virginia = WET
(0 comments) (link) Saturday, 14-June-2003  11:04 AM - by DOM
Sources around the traps report that it is pissing with rain at the moment in West Virginia. It has been wet for the last week leading up to this event so the course is well and truely sloshed and slippery ensuring the best riders in the world are kept on their toes. Should be interesting none the least, We know Kovarik and Rennie like mud so hopefully the other Aussies tag along and it's another Aussie domination in the top 10.

More news as it is released.

The new XT
(15 comments) (link) Saturday, 14-June-2003  10:41 AM - by Ryan
Singletrackworld.com have scored the scoop on 'the '04 XT Groupset. The new groupset includes such joys as splined hub mounting disc rotors, ala this years XTR (so no XT hub will be compatible with any other brands disc brakes any more) and the flick-shifting, rapid rise brake levers, also a trickle down from this years XTR (so if you want to run XT disc brakes, you'll automatically have to run XT shifters and an XT / XTR rapid rise derailleur). All in all it looks like '04 will prove to be a bumper year. For SRAM. Check out the new XT here and marvel at the joys of proprietary standardisation.

Carter and Lopes won't contest Jeep KOM?
(16 comments) (link) Friday, 13-June-2003  10:12 AM - by Ryan
Velonews.com are claiming that neither GT/Hyundai or Mongoose/Hyundai will be sending their athletes to the the Jeep King of The Mountain Series because organisers won't allow competing sponsors (other car companies) to display advertising on their riders.
To me, this means no Brian Lopes and no Eric Carter at the KOM series. It would be a serious shame to see two of the most talented dual racers ever missing out on such a landmark event because of a sponsorship clash, troubled times indeed for the world of professional mountainbiking.
Check out the article here and sound off with your opinions.

We have a treat for those of you here that either:

a) Don't know what IRC is
b) Only just learnt to use computers since farkin came online
c) Too lazy

It's web-based chat! Now you don't need to have a special program on the machine you're sitting on. Simply click on the 'Web-Based Chat' link on the nav to enter a life of happiness.

Or for the REALLY lazy people, click here.

The use of this program is pretty self explanitory, change the default nick of 'Guest' to whatever your forum alias is and click connect. The main chat channel is #mtb. Typically it should take anywhere between 10 and 30 seconds to successfully connect, depending on how far you are away from the server, network conjestion and server load.

*Opening the page will prompt you to install a small java client. Just click 'Yes'.

South Eash Queensland race support, brought to you by Farkin
(11 comments) (link) Sunday, 8-June-2003  7:32 PM - by Ty
In an effort to help support the local Downhill scene in south east Queensland farkin.net is introducing the Downhill race support team, basically what we will be aiming to do is to make the racing experience more enjoyable for racers and supports alike.
Our first steps in achieving this is to supply cold water to racers and supports at the first round of the upcoming CQ race @ D'Aguilar. We will be setting up “refueling” station at the top of the track at the riders staging area and at another point mid way along the track for spectators, feel free to come and say hello and grab a drink if your out there.

This is just the start of something we hope to make much bigger.

World CUP Round 2 4X Results
(0 comments) (link) Sunday, 8-June-2003  09:46 AM - by DOM
On a track many deemed an uncreative, short, bumpy downhill track , Round 2 of the UCI World Cup 4X was run. Despite the track lacking many of the fundamentals of a real 4X track ( thunderbird park hehe ) Eric Carter (Mongoose-Hyundai) has taken out round 2 for the Men. (Kona Clarks) Tracey Moseley managed to pip 4X Queen Ann Caro and our Aussie girl Katrina Miller for the points in the womens event. Both riders agreed the course was a little strange and not quite up to 4X norm.
For more information and a detailed look at some of the riders opinions Click Here

Round 2 Mens Results

1. Eric Carter (USA), Mongoose-Hyundai, 50 points
2. Michal Prokop (Cze), 40
3. Scott Beaumont (GBr), 30
4. Cedric Gracia (F), Siemens Mobile-Cannondale, 25

Round 2 Womens Results

1. Tracy Moseley (GBr), Kona Clarks, 50 points
2. Katrina Miller (Aus), 40
3. Sabrina Jonnier (F), 30
4. Tara Llanes (USA), 20

WELL DONE AUSSIES OWN KATRINA MILLER ! SHES GOING OFF THIS SEASON. She also has a nice little lead going into the 3rd round. Hope she keeps it up to take the Womens 4X title.

The Downhill is yet to come thankgod.

4X Reports Not Good DH Fast and Wide Open
(0 comments) (link) Saturday, 7-June-2003  7:17 PM - by DOM
Reports are starting to come in at velonews from onsite at the 2nd World Cup in L'Alpe D'Huez. Eric Carter sent this comment via sms to Lopes on the 4X course.

"He said it's straight, fast and has no berms, and it's so rough you almost need a downhill bike."

velonews has limited news at this point in time but some facts on Lopes Injury though. Talks around the message boards are pointing to Barel, Gracia, Hannah , Kovarik , Hill and Greg Minnarr. The course is said to be extremely natural with really fast wide open grassy sections. Look for the guys who like high speeds to dominate so im guessing Aussies will feature heavily in the Top 10 once again.

Thats All we know until more comes to hand.

Good luck to all our aussie boys ripping it up.

WC #2 - L'Alpe D'Huez
(6 comments) (link) Friday, 6-June-2003  4:43 PM - by Ryan
Round 2 of the UCI World Cup Downhill is on this weekend. Fresh off their domination of the first World Cup round at Fort William, the French riders are bringing it home to the famous L'Alpe D'Huez resort, which also happens to be the oldest finish at altitude for the Tour De France.

Aussies on the UCI official start list are; Mick Hannah, Justin Havukainen, Sam Hill, Chris Kovarik, Jared Rando, Nathan Rennie, John Waddell and Jared Graves (I think the UCI needs to update their start lists).

With DH and 4X being contested over the weekend, we're hoping to see a lot of Aussie riders in the top 10 and maybe even to hear the old Australian anthem played over one of the podiums.

ATTENTION ALL DOWNHILLERS
My name is Tyron, I am from VicMtb.
It's all true, this weekend at Mt Buller is on and I am here to confirm this.
The chairlift will be free from horsehill to the spurs, as well as bb1, bb2.
Due to legal/safety reasons we cannot run the ABOM or 2000 BULLER course as they need to be deemed safe.
What we are doing this weekend is; going to run the Klingsporn trail which runs from Spurs (horsehill unload point) to the boom gate @ the bottom, it is approx 20km long, all single track, all donwhill hehehe! We will be shuttling people and bikes back to the chairlift, this is also free.
You will need chains and you will need to pay $24 per car for resort entry or $27 overnight, $33 two nights, this can be split by people in the car.
There will be other x/c courses open as well as some pretty chilled free ride sections.
MTB riding will be fully going off @ Mt Buller after the ski season, with new and old tracks being used. If eveyone could obey the rules for the weekend on where you can and can't ride, this would be appreciated because it will make our job easier for summer.. C U ALL UP THERE!! . if you have any questions ring me on 9817-2917

Thanks Tyron.

Amidst a lot of rain, crashing and injuries the 4X finals somehow found time to go down, with Greg Minaar taking the win from Eric Carter, Steve Peat and Michael Prokop in the mens final.

The womens 4X field was small, with only 2 rounds taking place but Aussie girl Katrina Miller won both her races to take the win from Mio Suemasa and Anneke Beerten.

There's talk going on of a lot of injuries, but so far we can confirm
- Brian Lopes (fractured ankle)
- Jared Graves (kidney)
There are also rumours that Mick Hannah has injured his shoulder, but no confirmation on that as yet.

Thoughts and best wishes to all the injured riders and their families.

Get well soon Jared from everyone at farkin.net!

Here are some photos courtesy of the dhrace.com team, who are at Fort William filming for the upcoming Warwick Patterson / Mtbfilms.com release "Rise".

The DH final goes off at midnight tonight (AEST) so if you're keen to watch it, don't forget to check out High.TV. The 400kb/s broadband stream is damn near DVD quality, so don't miss the chance to see live WC downhill you hear?!
