The Ippy 4x event was run today, much fun had. Thanks to the NRG guys for a good event even with the low turn out. Here's some pictures from the bmx track muck around afterwards.. Check them out here.

Crazy group photo....

lindsay rang up last night and hes not happy. There's been alot of rain and the track is all mud and very very slippery. He said that he can only get down without falling off every second run. The other Assies rae also struggling in the super slippery conditions. Weather forecast for today is supposed to be for the rain to be clearing, and with some luck, the track may dry-out a little.

Aussie Mary Grigson retires, here's a brief snippet from same link as above:
Born in New Zealand in 1971, Grigson is an Australian citizen by descent and moved to Australia in 1995 where she performed well in a trial event for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and caught the eye of the Australian Institute of Sport. She went on to race in Australia in AIS colours and rode the Atlanta Olympics, finishing 15th, and the Sydney Olympics, where she was sixth.
Her career highpoints were a World Cup victory in Napa in 2000 and her two-year dominance of the NORBA series in 2000 and 2001. |

MTB Paparazzo extraordinaire Shawn Spomer sent me an email today letting me know about the new edition of his print 'zine Litter, so here's the official press release for Litter 'Mega'zine, available exclusively online for your viewing and reading pleasure!
"The latest issue of Litter "Mega"zine is now available for mass consumption. This issue features 36 full color, ad-free pages of mtb flaccidness. Redbull Rampage, Sea Otter Classic, Tour of Canyonlands, Plattekill and other crap fills the pages being groped by your dirty little mits. New Zealand sheep herder, John Kirkcaldie destroys the Big Bear dirt on the cover!
Litter "Mega"zine is a periodical that addresses the needs of YOU, the rider. All of the other rags out there are huge...so big in fact that your teacher takes them away from you in class. We gotcha covered. Litter uses a hyper-modern, "progressive" format that measures 8.5 by 5.5 inches in size. This "innovative" format allows you to stash a copy in your textbook. Your teacher will think you're learning how to use the pythagorean theorem to measure your latest drop to flat, but you'll actually be drooling over the latest in mtb visuals, in a haze of dirt, knobs and suspension.
Litter also introduces "Clappin' Yo Dome", a DVD. An amalgamation of the hottest footage from 2002 & 2003 desensitizes you for 33 brain-blowing minutes. Extras include footage that the Learning Channel has banned, like interviews, helmet cam footy and more!!! Buy CYD to increase your intelligence by a factor of 12. CYD (clappin' yo dome) reviews have been incoherent at best. The footage and production is so intense that all viewers have request psychological therapy after watching. Maybe it's best to make an appointment with your shrink before you watch.
Visit Littermag.com to get the goods. An easy to use shopping cart awaits your hard earned lunch money and paychecks."
Spomes has also promised a copy of Clappin' Yo Dome to review, so watch for it in the coming months. |

The Jeep King of the Mountain series wrapped up on the weekend with
Beone's Bas Da Bever taking the overall in the Mens and Sabrina Jonnier taking out the womens overall title.
It was one of the richest series yet in mountain biking with Team 1 Australia ( Wade Bootes , Katrina Miller ) taking $10 000 home after winning the overall team title ! I wonder if Rennie gets a free pot of beer for his efforts in the Telluride round where he replaced an injured Bootes and scored Team 1 Australia a win in the mens race.
Bas and Sabrina take home cash and get this ... Jeep cars !!! Because neither of them are US residents they are allowed to sell the Jeep's and claim the cash. Thats a pretty decent pay out for a 4 race series.
Hopefully Jeep get behind more of these events, although there was some stuff around at the start of the series with sponsor clashes .. the money and coverage is good for the sport. Well Done Jeep and everyone involved including the riders for making the events.

 | New test gear - Race Face Riser Bar (6 comments) (link) Monday, 25-August-2003 12:02 AM - by Ryan | |
|
The nice folks at Advance Traders, the Australian distributor for Race Face, Rocky Mountain and many other quality brands have kindly provided us with an '04 Race Face Riser Bar to test for a few months

From the Race Face Dealer Manual - "The Riser bar is manufactured from a cold drawn, seamless, butted Air Alloy aluminium tube and shot peened for increased fatigue life. The butting process puts extra material in critical "high impact" areas, creating the optimal strength to weight ratio for an aluminium bar. In fact, the Riser Bar is so strong that it doesn't need a cross brace for support- it's used "as is" by many of the worlds top downhill racers."
In real life, the bars have a nice comfortable bend and sweep and feel pretty damn light too. They don't have quite as much rise as I'm used to, but a bit of messing around with headset spacers has put them in an ideal position for me. They're going out for their first serious ride today, look for a full review in a few months time. |

|
The grand opening of the Smithfield MTB Park went down on the weekend with MTBA President Tony Scott and the Hon Dr Lesley Clark officially openning the Smithield MTB Park. Starting with a social ride for everyone on the Green Frog Loop followed by a lunch celebration and then round 1 of the Cairns clubs MTX championships. The day was a bright one for MTBing Australia and another great milestone from Glen Jacob's and his team of hardworking club members, Whos dedication and dreams have created a permanent MTB park with awesome facilities only 30mins drive from Cairns CBD.
Smithfield's MTB Park along with Hilltop Oasis (Brisbane MTB Park) driven by Shane Johnson and his team of builders allow us MTB riders to ride on purpose built trails which are fully legal and safe to ride.
Congrats to Glen and everyone in Cairns for the work they have done and we sure as hell are looking forward to being apart of some of the major events kicking off in the near future.
For those non Brisbane FARKIN visitors if you havent already check out the Brisbane MTB Park here www.mountainbikepark.com The place is coming along nicely and with more visitors and exposure big things will come.
For those interested in checking out whats going on up in my great ole home town of Cairns visit www.cairnsmtb.com for more information.
Also stay tuned for a MASSIVE interview with the Big man in Cairns Glen Jacob's which I should get around to posting sometime soon.

Greg Minnar takes title from Kovarik arrrrrrr poor Chris, 3 times now he's been ruling and 3 times he's missed the overall! But hey, I think being as consistent as Chris sometimes looks better then just having won a title.
Steve Peat won the actual event with a crash near the finish? Freak !!

 | Gracia, Jonnier win Durango Mountain X (0 comments) (link) Sunday, 17-August-2003 1:06 PM - by Ryan | |
|
The final round of the NORBA Mountain Cross was contested in Durango overnight, with Cedric Gracia taking out the mens race and Sabrina Jonnier winning the womens event.
Jonnier's win, from Aussie rider Tai Lee Muxlow and Brit Fionn Griffiths gave her enough points to pip Jill Kintner for the overal series title.
Kintner tangled with Aussie rider Katrina Miller early in the second round and came off second best, but still held onto the U.S. National Title.
Gracia beat out Chris Kovarik and Eric Carter in the mens final, meaning Carter held onto to the lead he took into the finals to win the NORBA overall and U.S. National titles from compatriot Mike King, with Chris Kovarik third in the overall standings.

Local South East Queensland hucker Mitch Afflick decided that the worlds top freeriders needed to be taught a lesson or two. His means of proving this came in the form of what has to be one of the biggest road gaps ever seen.
His antics raised so much interest that Black Phoenix Films decided to make the trip up to the sunny Gold Coast on the weekend. They captured the amazing feat on film for their latest video "Drift - A New Race" which is due to premiere at the Mount Beauty Nationals.
Luckily Farkin was able to get hold of some photo's. Here is the proof.

More photos of the gap can be found here.
