 | Drop IN TV on International TV Networks (7 comments) (link) Thursday, 18-September-2003 1:47 PM - by DOM | |

We're searching for creative ways to bring people living in parts of the world other than Canada Drop In.
Next month is the largest television market in the world which our distributor will be attending and pitching the show to international networks. This is our chance to get the show on the tube in the U.S., Australia, all over Europe etc.
We need YOUR help.
The way the world works, unfortunately, is most networks around the world look to the U.S. to guage what is new and cool/entertaining.
Our main goal is to lock down a U.S. network and show the world that we are out there. We found in the past that our fans are better at convincing the decision makers than even us. A flood of emails from some mature people in England to their local "Extreme" tv network resulted in a phone call from the program director and Drop In on their network.
Those of you with a genuine desire to see Drop In on your local channel some day should write to ESPN2 in the states and ask them (politely) to buy it. They are the best network we could have and the network that others around the world will look to for direction.
Here's the link to ESPN : http://expn.go.com/sitetools/s/contact/index.html
Here's the email adress for FOX :

Thanks.

The Global Racing Team arrived in Kaprun, Austria, site of last year's excellent World Championships with great anticipation for the World Cup Finals at the classic venue. The riders' enthusiasm was soon cut short as they walked the course in rain that was to persist all week. The course shared only a small section with last year's classic course and was only half the original length, and most of it was off camber on fresh grass.
For Lindsay Klein (AUS), the youngest member of the team, these were conditions he had never raced before and he found the going tough. Towards the end of training he started to feel more comfortable thanks to his cut Michelin Mud 3's, but in the semi final he suffered 2 crashes and unfortunately failed to qualify for the final.
Andrew Neethling (RSA) had been battling a head cold all week and spent a lot of his spare time resting in bed and consequently didn't have the best weekend. Despite having a fall in the semi final, he qualified 44th, then in the final had another two falls and finished 54th, outside of the points. "I was trying to pin it in the final, but crashed early. I got back into my rhythm quickly but once again got caught in a rut that took me out yet again. Then it was matter of just getting down. It's a mess out there," said a clearly disappointed Andrew.
Matti Lehikoinen (FIN) had a better week as the slippery conditions suited the Finn's style. Matti displays incredible skill in the wet and muddy conditions and many riders came up to congratulate him, after training, on his excellent cornering skills in the wet. In timed training Matti recorded the 4th fastest time and was looking good for the race on Saturday. However in his last training run before the quails he crashed hard on his head and was briefly knocked out. After assessing his condition he was permitted to race, but the crash shook him up for the semi final where he went for a steady run without errors and came in 19th. In the final Matti was feeling better and went for a strong time, and despite a near fall when his bike fell in a huge hole on the course, he saved it and went on to scored a 15th place, his best result ever in a World Cup Downhill (except for the rain affected Grouse Mountain race this year).
18 year old Karlis Kisuro (LAT), who is managed by 23 Degrees and is a development rider in Global Racing colours, not only qualified for the first time in a World Cup, but finished an excellent 30th place, just 3 seconds behind World Class riders like Steve Peat, Chris Kovarik and Eric Carter.

The 4X was cancelled due to excessive rain, poor conditions, and some safety concerns.
The Global Racing Team now heads to La Bresse in France for the finals of the French National Series. Check in for results from that event next week on www.araiglobal.com
News on whether or not Global Racing will be racing in 2004 will be released in late November this year. Once again, a big thanks to all of the fans and supporters, and of course to our valued official suppliers, we thank you sincerely for allowing us to race season 2003. |

If you're lucky enough to know where they are and good enough to jump them you probably realise that the Ferny Grove trails are one of the sweetest jump spots in Brisbane.
Alas, the trails have been discovered and the land owners are none too happy about them so on Wednesday morning the dreaded and hated bulldozers will be moving in to level the place.
You're advised to get on out and pay your final respects to the place while you still have a chance. The locals are planning to turn up at 7am on Wednesday morning to protest the demolition and while it might not stop the 'dozers it would be great if anyone who's as unhappy about this as I am could get out there and show your support.
I'd like to give a huge shout out to the crew who built and maintained this immaculate jump spot, you obviously had great pride in the place and it showed. Thanks for digging such an awesome spot and giving me one more great place to ride my bike, you have my respect always. |

 | World Cup results - Lopez wins, Rennie takes the crown!!! (24 comments) (link) Sunday, 14-September-2003 07:53 AM - by belly_up | |

The results are in for the Kaprun World Cup, at least for the downhill anyway. The 4x was, ahem, cancelled, because some of the racers are a bunch of wusses, apparently. DH top 10 was as follows:
Men
1 - David Vasquez Lopez
2 - Greg Minaar
3 - Nathan Rennie
4 - Michal Marosi
5 - Fabien Barel
6 - Cedric Gracia
7 - Mickael Pascal
8 - George Atherton
9 - Bernat Guardia Pascual
10 - Mechael Deldycke
Women
1 - Marla Streb
2 - Sabrina Jonnier
3 - Fionn Griffiths
4 - vanessa Quinn
5 - Celine Gros
6 - Tracey Moseley
7 - Marielle Saner
8 - Bernadita Pizarro
9 - Emmeline ragot
10 - Helen Gaskell
from Transcend Magazine:
For some reason the 4x was cancelled due to a few riders whining like babies that the course was too dangerous in the wet. Most riders were ready to fly their bikes over the muddy mess, but the UCI decided to cancel the event altogether.
To prove his point that the course was rideable, World Champion Eric Carter rode the course in his tighty whities and helmet. Eric is the man, plain and simple.
But the important thing for us is that these results mean Nathan Rennie is the 2003 World Cup Champion, which is an absolutely awesome effort, and after Sam Hill's win last week at the Jr Worlds, once again proves that Australia is a far better place than the rest of the world, at least as far as DH is concerned
Congrats to Nathan from Farkin.net, and all of Australia, you've done us proud mate. Props also to Sabrina Jonnier who took out the Womens World Cup Title, I know she's French and all, but full credit to anyone who wins the world cup!

Global Racing at The Worlds
Without a doubt, the highlight of this week for the Global Racing Team here in Lugano (SUI) for the World Championships was watching our good friend and former teammate win the prestigious title of World Champion. Greg Minnaar made us all very proud. He had stayed with us at the Maxxis Cup the week before and travelled to the Worlds with us, so we had a great time straight
after the win when he invited Global Racing to join Team Haro and go out for a celebratory dinner and everything else that followed.
For the three Global Racing riders the Worlds were a little disappointing. Andrew "Needles" Neethling developed a head cold during the week and after not qualifying as he would have liked in the 4X, decided to withdraw and save his energy for the Downhill. He had a great run going but just prior to the road gap, about a third of the way down the course, suffered a mechanical. His chainguide broke and he lost his chain and couldn't pedal the remainder of the course. Despite this, he finished a solid 28th, which we all feel should have been a top 20 without the mechanical, but it was one of those bizarre mechanicals that had never happened to us before. Andrew's skill level has developed dramatically this year and this is what kept his momentum up and resulted in a fast time on the testing track despite no drive chain.
Matti Lehikoinen had nothing to lose here and after qualifying 12th was in good reach of a top 10 result. Team instructions were to not ride conservatively, but to go for a top ten. If he crashed trying for a good time, then that would be better than hitting the brakes too much. Madi went for it, but unfortunately crashed hard. He was taken to hospital for an X-Ray to check for broken ribs as he was in a lot of pain and having trouble breathing. Fortunately he hasn't broken anything, but has bruised and torn the muscles that surround the ribs. He'll be fine for next week in Kaprun.
Lindsay Klein raced the junior category and after qualifying conservatively in 15th, also looked good for a top ten, but after his final run he said his arm pump was more severe today than any other, as the course was blown to bits. Lindsay finished in 17th about 30 seconds back from compatriot Sam Hill, but is now looking forward to racing Kaprun next week on a much shorter course.
A huge thanks to all the Global Racing fans that turned up this week to wish the boys well, and of course Greg, well done once again!

 | Bryn Atkinson - brought to you by Spomer (2 comments) (link) Wednesday, 3-September-2003 9:20 PM - by Ryan | |
|
The life of a NORBA Pro during the off-season isn't all endless shuttles and testing Madcatz gear, you have to go through the pain of sessioning wicked jump trails with world famous photographer Shawn Spomer there to document it all.
Cairns local Bryn Atkinson isn't attending the World Championships despite making the Australian team but by the looks of these photos he's still having a damn good time tearing it up in NorCal.
Spomer says "3 days ago, I was able to spend some time in the presence of Bryn Atkinson in Northern California.
At a local slalom race, the starter called him Bryan, and I laughed. I'd heard he hates that. I think it's hilarious, but I don't say it to his face because he doesn't really laugh too hard, and he's way tougher than I am.
Here's a taste of his nastiness. Bryn, oozing style like an infected sore oozes pus.
Bryn, it was a pleasure to see you kill it. Good luck out east."

Once again, Spomer kills it with lens and as for Bryn, well the pics speak for themselves. If you want to see a bit more crazy dirt jumping action courtesy of Spomes 164productions and Litter Megazine download this here video and put some serious hurt on Litters' servers. |

 | Maxxis Cup Final - Martin Whitley (7 comments) (link) Monday, 1-September-2003 10:18 PM - by DOM | |
|
September 1, 2003.
Matti Lehikoinen (FIN) scored his 2nd international top 10 result, in as many weeks, following up his 8th place in the European Championships in Graz, Austria last week, with a 9th place this weekend here in Zweisimmen (SUI) at the final round of the International Maxxis Cup of the season. This 9th place came despite a front puncture which he suffered 70% down the
course, after qualifying 3rd earlier in the day.
"I was a bit disappointed to puncture after qualifying so well. I haven't punctured all year so it was a bit of a surprise when I realized that's what had happened. I then just tried to keep the bike upright and stay as fast as possible to the finish line, but I'm sure I would have finished a few spots higher had I not punctured", said Matt shortly after crossing the line.
Summer had come to an abrupt end here in the small village just 20km from the site of 1997 Worlds, Chateau d'Oex, with the riders battling wet weather conditions from Friday through to Sunday, and temperatures as low as 5degrees Celsius. The rain wasn't consistent making qualifying tactics a tricky business, as the course conditions changed from hour to hour, and ruts got deeper.
Global Racing decided to run its other top senior rider off earlier, so Andrew Neethling (RSA) qualified slow and ended up having a top run in the final, sitting in the hot seat for more than 40 minutes before finally being replaced by compatriot Greg Minnaar. "I had a great run", said Andrew while sitting in the hot seat, "and now I just hope the rain buckets down!!" In the end Andrew's time was good enough for a solid 13th place.
Global Racing's other rider here was junior Lindsay Klein (AUS) making his international debut for the team, and riding in the elite category. Lindsay had trouble adjusting to the muddy alpine mountain conditions, which were a world away from what he has raced on all his life. "I've just never raced on stuff like this, and I came off in my qualifier and the final, but I learned a lot from the experience."
Final results:
1. Chris Kovarik (AUS) - 4m 28.274secs
2. Sam Hill (AUS) - 4m 29.783secs
3. David Vazquez (ESP) - 4m 32.940secs
4. George Atherton (GBR) - 4m 34.238secs
5. Mickael Pascal (FRA) - 4m 34.624secs
6. Oscar Saiz (ESP) - 4m 36.492secs
7. Mick Hannah (AUS) - 4m 38.758secs
8. Greg Minnaar (RSA) - 4m 39.935secs
9. Matti Lehikoinen (FIN) - 4m 41.295secs
13. Andrew Neethling (RSA) - 4m 43.315secs
49. Lindsay Klein (AUS) - 5m 31.584secs
The team now travels to the World Championships a few hours away in Lugano. César Rojo (ESP) will not be joining the team after deciding not to continue racing this season following a serious crash in the Spanish National Championships several weeks back, resulted in César being knocked unconscious for several minutes. Later César was diagnosed with a severe
concussion and other minor injuries. The Spanish Cycling Federation also opted not to select him for the World Championships, as their Nationals are a key selection event. César has taken this as a sign to focus on his University studies for now and the whole team wishes him the best for his future endeavors and thanks him for 3 great years of racing with the Global Racing team. Thanks Red Devil!! |

Just saw over at Pinkbike that the Truvativ website has a Poll going to find out what is your favourite MTB related website. The usual suspects are in the lineup .. Opinionheads.com ??? Great site but I reckon it's in the list because they know someone ya know the deal. So anyway I want all 1200 farkin members to go to www.truvativ.com
and submit your vote ... Choose other and everyone put in www.farkin.net obviously and let them all know we are major players and should of been on their list.
You have the chance to win a set of cranks per month .. however ive got a feeling it's only US Residents. You have to put in the state code when you subject your vote so just put in LA or something. Doesnt matter if we cannot win the cranks lets just so them who we are.
Go forth !! |
