Litter Megazine OLS - Online and up-ours, apparently
(5 comments) (link) Friday, 30-January-2004  7:53 PM - by Ryan
If you've never checked out a Litter Online Supplement you really should. If you have, then you're going to click that link and check it out anyway, so this link is kind of pointless.

It's issue #77, it kicks and that's all you need to know. Be nice and unleash a hellish frenzy of click-throughs on their advertisers, it'll make the advertisers think they're getting their moneys worth and ensure we see another issue of Litter sometime in the future.

Update on Waddell Race - 7/8th of Feb
(4 comments) (link) Monday, 26-January-2004  10:38 PM - by DOM
Hi guys,
Just an update for you.

The Waddell fundraising race for the 7/8th of Feb is looking like it will be one of the biggest downhill races ever in WA. Lots of organising has gone into it to date with the first runs on the new track taking place last weekend. The track (designed by Sam and Sabrina) is open and fast, and with a bit of running in over the next couple of weeks it should go off come race day.

A start list of all of those that have registered online or donated is being compiled and can be viewed here.

This list will be updated daily until the day of the race so any companies, friends and riders make sure your name is on it come the 8th of Feb. US$20 for under 17's is all it takes. US$35 to get your name on the elite list.

A flyer for the race can be viewed here.

To get your name on the list click the paypal donate button from the PMBC website.

Cheers,
Jas

Alpine Tracks/SRAM/RockShox World Cup Team
(0 comments) (link) Wednesday, 21-January-2004  6:30 PM - by DOM
Thanks to Big Mark aka ( Silver Wahoo ) for the heads up.

Official Press Release below.

bn3 Sports is delighted to confirm a new title sponsor has joined SRAM and Rock Shox for the 2004 season… Mountain holiday specialists Alpine Tracks will provide the team’s European base of operations at their luxurious chalet complex in Morzine. Located in the centre of the Portes du Soleil region (just a short drive from Geneva Airport), team riders will have unparalleled access to some of the best riding areas in the Alps.

We are delighted that SRAM and Rock Shox are returning as title sponsors for 2004. Once again the team will be using the superb SRAM X.0, X.9 & X.7 components for unequalled shifting performance and Rock Shox forks for constant control on any course. We are also privileged to have been selected as a factory-equipped team receiving the best technical support possible from the SRAM / RockShox truck at all major events.

PowerBar, the number one choice in sports nutrition, are also continuing their support of the team with excellent energy, recovery and hydration products.

Kona Bicycles will be providing the team with World Cup winning Stab Primo framesets, via UK distributors Paligap.

Bolle have been one of our most valued sponsors in recent years. Once again the team are equipped with the finest eyewear both on and off the bike.

Sixsixone will be equipping the team with protective gear, gloves and socks.

Endura will again provide the team with custom-made racewear and technical clothing.

TFTunedShox, the home of Suspension Guru Tim Flooks, will provide the team with their expertise in the workshop and at the races.

Buff, another of our long-term supporters, will once again be supplying the team with cool items from their versatile clothing range.

USE seatposts will again be adding some Alien qualities to team bikes.

It is expected that further sponsors will be confirmed within the coming weeks.

Two of the most experienced women in UK downhilling make up the Alpine Tracks/SRAM/RockShox World Cup Team :-

Anja Rees Jones made a successful return to competition in 2003 after a potentially career ending injury. A silver medal in the British National Championships and 30th overall in the UCI World Cup suggest that she will be a serious contender in 2004.

Anja is also backed by Zero-G, Chamonix’s #1 bike and board store, and by Doss Clothing.

Petra Wiltshire is the grande dame of British downhilling, and is one of the very select group to have been crowned World Champion. In what is likely to be her swansong season, Petra is looking to repeat the form that made her 2001 UCI Masters World Champion.

Alpine Tracks/SRAM/RockShox race program will include:

UCI World Cup
IXS Downhill Cup
Maxxis International Series
British Cycling National Championships & National Points Series.

A big thankyou to everyone who turned up over the weekend for the working bee at Eildon. An especially big thanks too, to Ben Reynolds- 4X and DH track designer and main builder who has put in many long hours to get the two tracks ready for racing.

The downhill track is close to completion with just a few minor bits to fix. The new section and other improvements are awsome. The 4X track is virtually ready for racing, having been tested by Jarl Jenson, Karl Peel, Sean Power & Ken Bellhause over the course of the weekend.

Get ready for a great Nationals lead up event on the 4x track on Feb 8th.

From News.com.au
A MAN in his mid-20s was paralysed today after crashing his bike into a tree in dense bushland in Sydney's south-west.

The Westpac Life Saver Helicopter said the man crashed his pushbike into a tree in bushland at Alfreds Point near Menai late today.

A crew had to be winched into the area to carry the man out on a stretcher.

A helicopter spokesman said the man was paralysed from the chest down and was being airlifted to St George Hospital.

WSMTBC Freeride Event
(5 comments) (link) Thursday, 15-January-2004  11:41 AM - by DOM
Hey guys,
Just thought you all might be interested in this for your Farkin Sydney
riders:

Those guys out in Western Sydney are at it again! Not content with just
running one of the best endurance XC events in Oz, they're now catering to the DH/ Freeride masses.

February 22nd they will be hosting a Freeride Event out on the slopes above Dargle Water Ski Park (where they have been running club DH events) on River Road, Lower Portland. Rego and Practice will be held in the morning until 1130.

Each rider in turn then has 5 minutes to impress the judges on a 50m wide section of the hill. With plenty of natural terrain including plenty of rocks and logs there should be an almighty display of riding skills as riders shoot it out for the prizes on offer, items include shwag from Mortdale Bike Shed, Aireal, Craftworks and Wacked T-Shirts. Entry is $25 on the day, so get busy with the skills it's going to be big.

It sounds like it'll be a peach of a day for folks willing to make the trip
out from town.

Cheers
Colonel

SRAM to purchase AVID
(2 comments) (link) Wednesday, 14-January-2004  3:01 PM - by DOM
Seems SRAM is going to grab it'self a brake company as they have told the bike world a letter of intent to purchase Avid has been sent. SRAM's plan is to be a company who offers a full component package for the rider this is what SRAM have to say.

The combination of SRAM and Avid creates a stronger company, and the only supplier in the bike industry to offer a broad range of Drivetrain, Suspension, and Brake Systems. SRAM’s breadth in global operations will improve capacity, information flow, and service for the Avid product lines. The combination of Avid’s and SRAM’s proven product development will lead to exciting new product lines.

Those that are in the know already fark it. Some of this news may or may not have been discussed in the forums but I gots to keeps the front looking fresh.

Stikman has posted a easy-going chilled interview with 2003 World Gun Sam Hill, the interview covers alot of area's and is worth checking out.
TAKE ME TO SAM INTERVIEW!

Tragic news from the US as one biker dies and another two critically injured as they were attacked by a mountain lion on a trail ride. Quite a freak incident and makes you think as you next charge through the trails what is out there. thoughts go out to family and freinds of Mark Jeffrey Reynolds who was a constant face in XC races around California.
Officially story here

GT are putting together a huge 4X race in Newcastle on the 31st Jan - 01 of Feb 04, The track has been crafted by master crafter Glen Jacob's and the amount of dirt being laid down for the permanent fixture is HUGE. Riders should really make an effort to attend this event as GT with the help of the Newcastle locals and Drift Bike Style are really trying to step up the professional level of racing in Australia. Sponsorship news and some cool video
(5 comments) (link) Tuesday, 6-January-2004  5:23 PM - by Ryan
Rock Shox and SRAM have just signed a 2 year deal to provide suspension and components for the Santa Cruz Syndicate. Looks like reigning UCI World Cup champion Nathan Rennie will be able to run with the components that helped put him on top of the world in 2003 for the length of his Santa Cruz contract.

Speaking of Mr Rennie, Petri from Pushi has just uploaded a helmet-cam video of Nathan tearing up the Magpie Creek track on the Gold Coast. Visit the Pushi website and use your eyes to find the video. Helmet camera operator is one Tim Mann, who's apparently a pretty handy downhiller in his own right.
