Hiya lads and lasses!
For those of you who aren't quite sure what 'Downhill Domination' is...you can view a thread discussion on our forums Here!!
For those of you lucky PS2 owners (eeer...not so lucky :P), you can go grab it from your local EB Games store TODAY! I'm not sure of any other retailer who might have it yet...but why go anywhere else than EB?? Note: It is only released on the ps2
If you got the spare doh, go buy a ps2 because apparently this game will keep you and your mates up all night!

 | Castle Hill Ipswich Information (2 comments) (link) Wednesday, 25-February-2004 9:40 PM - by DOM | |
|
On the 2nd and 3rd of March there will be aerial baiting for fire ants at Castle Hill. This will be carried out by the Department of Primary Industries.
The baiting should only take approx 45 minutes. Although the baits are not harmful to humans it is in your best interests that if you hear a helicopter above, DO NOT LOOK UP as the bait can cause infections if it gets into your eyes.
So if you are planning rides next week it is probably a good idea to steer clear of Castle on Tuesday and Wednesday as the baits actually draw the fire ants out of their nests and believe us they are nasty little critters.

 | Dave 'Wacka' McLaughlin in the UFCIII Sweet 16 (19 comments) (link) Tuesday, 24-February-2004 1:13 PM - by Ryan | |
|
The third annual Race Face Ultimate Freeride Challenge is under way with Australian downhill ace and dirt jumping guru (seen Drift 2?) Dave McLaughlin representing for the land down under in week 1.
For those who don't know how the contest works; 4 entrants will square off against each other with a short clip of their riding each week. You vote for whoever's clip you liked the best and the guy with the most votes moves through to the next round.
Dave is pitted against 2 Canadians in the opening round and we all know those Pinkbiker's will be in there voting for their local boys, so come on fark-heads, get across to the UFC Website, get signed up via the link at the bottom and lets get Whacker into the second round. No excuses dammit! Sign up and vote!!
Grab yourself the Sweet 16 teaser and marvel at the level of riding these kids have attained, it took me about 5 minutes on ADSL. As a reference, both Grant Allen's road-gap of death and the Bender / Wade Simmons road gap from NWDIII are punched out by entrants in this teaser, Jesus Tapdancing Christ! |

The boys have been busy ! They have picked up Glen Jacob's and have hooked up with names such as Ronning, Johnson, Muxlow, Hannah, Smithson, Taylor, Strom. The Footage for M4 is going to blow your mind.
The boys are heading to Bryn's house in Albury and they are making great progress in their bad-ass KEA motorhome which goes like a rocket downhill.
The boys have updated the site and there are some great photo's to check out.

| Western Sydney Mountain Bike Club put on the country's first club level freeride comp over the last couple of days, and even managed to pull riders from interstate. click here for full story and results. |
|
| Please note that parking at the race site is not in 'the usual place'. You will need to enter from the far end of firebreak rd. This will be extemely well sign posted. For those of you who have been to previous events at Eildon and think you know where there is parking up the other end- it is unavailable. All roads around the race site are closed (except for residents). Follow the signs from town down Eildon back rd. See you there!!! |

Despite the off-season buzz that a merger between the Maxxis and Giant race teams was imminent, it appears that Maxxis will be running a stand-alone operation for the 2004 season.
Their downhill squad will be lead by New Zealand's own 2-time NORBA series champion John Kirkcaldie who will be joined by promising American rider Colin Bailey.
The team will once again campaign on Turner bikes, with further backing coming from SRAM/Rock Shox, Sun Ringle, Truvativ and of course the orange and black behemoth that is Maxxis Tyres.
So really it's not news at all, the Maxxis/Turner DH squad is back for '04 on the same bikes and with the same riders.
Farkin.net, your one stop shop for industry "news", look out for some exciting new features in the coming months including; "rumour presented as fact" and "flat out lies and stuff we made up". |

| The Mudcows crew spent today in the beautiful (hot as hell, humid to match) sunshine of Toowoomba. The track in focus Flaggon, our newest master piece sporting wide open sections and crazily fast turn around times. Riders for the day were Jared, Lindsay and Denis (of Mudcows). Here are a couple pics from the days proceedings.
Be sure to checkout Mudcows.com for updates on their roadtrip. |

Things are hotting up in the final few weeks to the National championships. The sponsors are growing by the day and the entries are flooding in.
The event program is out in bike stores and major newsagents and is well worth a read. The National rankings are in so XC starting positions are taking shape.
All thats left to do is.... Ok there is heaps left to do but we hope you are all coming to Eildon, Victoria to enjoy this 4 day cycling festival. Also if you or anybody you know can offer some help at the event please come down to the rego tent and see us. We have a roster with shifts of 4 hours.
Each volunteer will get a t-shirt and food and drink during their shift. Jobs include marshaling, judging, driving, loading and some other simple things. We are also after 8 fully licenced people who are in Eildon on the wednesday to help us get our transport vehicles from Mansfield. |
 | Grant Allen in search of zones... (5 comments) (link) Sunday, 15-February-2004 11:01 AM - by Scott | |
|
From Grant:
Im in search of potential riding/filming zones in areas from Perth down through towards Albany, Pemberton, Esparance, Kalgoorlie and beyond across the Nullabor through towards Coober pedy and outback South Australia. Im in search of both riding zones, trails, gaps or possibilities for gaps or drops along with locals that may be able to help out and guide myself and my group to the gold! Essentially a road trip from Perth through to Adelaide is being planned over the space of two weeks and im looking to get in touch with locals and to see if people can help me out. If you have ideas on where a gap could be built or where you have a gap or trail or something built that we could ride and film with you i would love to hear about it. If you would like to send me photos of potential areas etc i would love to see them or even give me a call. The trip is being planned around leaving from Perth on around the 19th of April. So if you have any ideas etc please help me out!!! Thanks!
So if you can help Grant find some good places to ride, or would like him to hit up some gaps you've been to scared to hit nows your chance. Contact him here. |

News has popped up on Velonews that Aussie talent and team Intense rider Chris Kovarik may be sidelined for a majority of the 04 racing season. The news is apparently from Scott Sharples but velonews has been known to bend the rules. Read the following article with a sprinkle of salt and until you see a press release from Intense or Chris himself dont beleive everything you read. We will see if we can get some more concrete details.

I was heading out for a ride this morning and look what turned up at my door!
Bill from DHDirect.com.au had hooked me up with a Da Bomb CR8 BMX, sweet! All 4130 construction, 13" frame, BMX bottom bracket, horizontal dropouts, adjustable disc brake mounts...this is one sick little frame.
The frame was built up singlespeed with an assortment of Da-Bomb parts including Shinburger pedals, stem, cranks, sprocket and grindplate. It also featured Ydopen hydraulic disc brakes, which on inspection are exactly the same as Armor or Dice hyro's. Manitou Black's handled suspension duties up front.
The bike got taken on an early morning cross country loop this morning, honking around in a single gear nearly killed me and the pedals proved to be drastically lacking in grip as soon as they got water on them.
At the skatepark this arvo it got some hardcore erbon abuse. oMGzor! a grnid on a mountainbikes!
While also at the skatepark Dom broke out the style on his nu-skool street DH bike, and Ty busted flatty's over the hip on his BMX.
We'll be testing this baby for the next 3 weeks so be sure to check in for a review when it gets pried out of hands. |

This is the track which will be used for the 2004 Nationals and this race will be the last time it is open to riders before then so come up and have a ride. The 4X track has been tested by Jarl Jenson, Karl Peel, Sean Power & Ken Bellhause over the course of the last working bee, and was given the thumbs up by all riders.
The track is awesome- slightly longer, more jumps, bigger jumps, bigger berms, extra berms, multiple lines... well worth the trip, its not like its far from Melbourne anyway! |
 | Bamber signs with team Farkin.net (35 comments) (link) Monday, 2-February-2004 11:32 AM - by Ryan | |
|
Farkin.net is proud to announce the signing of emerging downhill and freeride talent Liam 'Fuzzy' Bamber to it's factory race team.
With previous achievments including posting more than 10 men in our forums and, um, living in Perth, Farkin is expecting big things from this precocious young talent.
As part of his contract Bamber will receive a dodgy Farkin.net iron-on transfer to make a T-shirt from as well as a lifetime supply of pide.
Bamber will make his Elite level debut in Farkin.net colours at the John Waddell fundrarising race in Western Australia this weekend.
With other starters including 2 times Junior World Champion Sam Hill and World Cup Champion Nathan Rennie, team Farkin.net is expecting to see Liam flying the Farkin.net flag high on the podium at the end of the day. Anything less will result in merciless heckling and public ridicule.
For your chance to challenge Bamber and support Shooter, get across to the Perth MTB Club and click the PayPal donate button on the left of screen. |

Well, yet another enduro event is apon us, the Geelong Mountain Bike Club's 6 hour, which is to be held at Ballan on the 7th of Feb. Race times 6pm till 12am (MidNight), registration starts at 4:30pm . The course is set to be a good one, Simular to the course I had my first race on, but backwards.
Info: The course has something for everyone, with fast open sections, technical down hills, a couple of creek crossings and about 190m of vertical climbing. The track is 10.5km's in length and quiet tough, but ridable. Facilities at the track are excellent, with permanent toilets, and some great camp sites though space is limited.
For more info/details/Directions check out the GMBC website at:
<a href="www.gmbc.com.au"
I am considering doing the race Solo, however lights and bike problems (thanks to the mud at the 8 hour) may well be the end of this plan. I would be willing to ride in a team (or 2 or 3 at most) if someone was looking. I'm not there to win, though it's set to be a good event. |
