 | More Aussie radness from the Sea Otter... (4 comments) (link) Friday, 23-April-2004 6:56 PM - by Ryan | |

| Looks like the peeps at Sea Otter finally saw fit to release the mountain cross results from last weekends racing and the word on the street is that Australian BMX ripper Michael 'Tiger' Robinson was the elusive third man on the grassy knoll...I mean fourth man in the pro mountain cross final. Big props to Michael for making the final in what I'm assuming was his first top-level mountain bike event overseas! |
|
Just pulled down an email from Shawn Orecchio, Manager of the Diablo Freeride Park in the US. 47 mins from the Heart of New York !! Crazy.
As you know Last year was the debut of this exciting new event which was taken out by Aussie ripper Bryn Atkinson ! Well this year the event promises to be even bigger and now that the word is out expect alot more pro's to make a keen dash for this huge weekend of racing on a world class course.
With prize money unmatched by any of the Norba\World Cup events, the guys at Diablo Freeride Park are really putting on a fantastic event which is hopefully going to be a perm fixture on our international racing calendar !.
For more information check out the press release in our General Discussion area of the forums. HERE

 | Stiksandstones.com THE END ? (6 comments) (link) Thursday, 22-April-2004 1:08 PM - by DOM | |

Craig Glaspell aka "Stikman" wrench man for Team GT\Hyundai , husband to Leigh Donovan, Creator of cult website Stiksandstones.com has decided to close down the site due to time restrictions. Im not sure whether this is a joke or some sort of late april fools day thing but it looks pretty real. I cannot imagine how busy Stik is with travelling with Lopes and the team so to run a website amongst all of that travelling, wrenching and partying I dont blame the guy. Personally Stiksandstones.com was a favourite site of mine since the beginning as Stiks dry humour was always entertaining and his "up yours" attitude to many industry wanks was always a laugh. You always got the truth about how it really went down and not some covered up sponsor driven story that you would expect from some media websites.
On behalf of everyone at Farkin.net we wish Stikman all the best and hope he returns to his website duties in the off season to entertain us all with explicit stories of behind the scenes bar brawls and racing scene tales.
You will continue to read Stiks words as he will continue to write for Dirt Magazine.
Good luck mate and all the best.

A Snippet from the email:
"Race Face Performance Products, along with Giant Bicycles and Manitou Suspension is proud to announce that Wayne Goss has won the third annual Race Face Ultimate Freeride Challenge!
A 19 year old from BC’s interior, Wayne secured 55% of the 6320 votes to beat out Santa Barbara’s Carlin Dunne and take the UFC III title. In doing so, Wayne has secured a sponsorship deal with Race Face, Giant and Manitou worth over US$25,000!"
Congratualtions Wayne, I voted for you, so I deserve at least a grand! |

 | Sea Otter - Robinson wins MTX, Hannah wins Gravity Omnium (8 comments) (link) Monday, 19-April-2004 11:54 AM - by Ryan | |

On what was apparently an awesome track, BMX pro Danny Robinson ended his first week riding a mountain bike with a win in the Pro men's mountain cross at the Sea Otter Classic.
Robinson edged out Aussie Haro ripper extraordinaire Sick / Slick / Quick / Mick Hannah, handing Hannah his only defeat of the weekend in any event and a comanding victory in the overall Gravity Ominium.
Anyone think Mick Hannah's in for a big season?

Aussie Mick Hannah (Haro-adidas) and American Marla Streb (Luna) took wins in the Sea Otter downhill Sunday in Monterey, California. The victory was Hannah's second in two days, giving him a commanding lead in the chase for the overall omnium title. Frenchwoman Sabrina Jonnier (Intense) is atop the women's overall standings after adding a second place in the downhill to her win in Saturday's dual slalom.
Kathy Pruitt (Luna) was third in the downhill, while Eric Carter (Mongoose-Hyundai) and Nathan Rennie (Santa Cruz Syndicate) completed the men's top three. Well done Mick and Nathan. First race of the season and already showing why the Aussies are the fastest!

Just 'cause we can't be stuffed writing up all the news we come by and because alot of news is not appropriate for the front page we give you BULK NEWS!
Yes, that's more news!!
How does it work? Rather than writing up little summaries of news this section just links straight to the articles. Bulk News has been designed to accommodate lots of news posts perday without getting cluttered up.
Bulk can be found under the "Current" link under news on the navigator.

Take me there!

The event is damn close now being held this weekend. This is the first over seas ride this year for most riders. For the bike companies and teams it's time to show off all the new gear and whatnot. Good thing we have spomer getting us some snaps, we expect bulk!
To give an idea of who's racing, here's the official regisations so far.
There are 5 events riders can participate in. They are:
- Downhill Domination MTB Mountain Cross
- Downhill Domination Dual Slalom
- Downhill Domination Downhill
- DownhillDomination Gravity Omnium (Overall winner)
- Jumping Contest
As you can see, it also looks like Sony are backing the event to promote their game Downhill Domination. Good to see, I was having a bitch about this (lack of sponsors) a couple months ago. They must have heard me :P |

Stephen Walton has taken a bunch of photos from a couple city rides in Sydney.

Farkin.net regrets to inform you that Kona’s Robbie Bourdon will not be attending the Red Bull Freight Train tour soon to be hitting Australian Shores. The Canadian based rider suffered kidney damage from a previous accident, and regrettably cannot make the trip down under.
All isn’t lost though as we have 3 new riders to add to the already impressive list of talent. Dave Watson, Darren Berrecloth, and Aaron Chase, will be joining forces with Nathan Rennie, Grant Allen, and Mike Shaw, bringing us a huge display of riding skill and style.

Thanks to Travis at BikeFanatic.com for giving us the chance to promote the MTB experience of a lifetime. The following is an excerpt from the DCXP press release;
Mountain biking with a serious difference, Everest Base Camp at 5200m above sea level is the goal. We begin in Kathmandu and fly over the Himalayas from Kathmandu to Lhasa the ancient capital of Tibet. Riding west across the Tibetan high plateau at 4000-5000m, the expedition will utilise existing 4WD tracks to journey to the foot of Mt Everest, the Rongbuk Everest Base Camp. After Base Camp the journey will continue West across the high plateau and South into Nepal for an awesome 120km free-wheeling (read: downhill) section. Finishing in the warm, lowlands of Nepal we complete our journey.
The expedition is being organised by Duncan Chessell, Everest summiteer, mountain guide, photographer and director/owner of DCXP Mountain Journeys, a specialised Himalayan expeditions company based in Adelaide.
DCXP has full time Sherpa staff who will be our support crew, in trucks and 4WD’s that will accompany us on this part-hotel, part-camping trip. The Sherpa staff will be responsible for food and campsites, leaving the group to do the hard yards, riding all day and then relaxing each afternoon.
This is a unique and magical expedition, professionally organised and led by DCXP Mountain Journeys who have extensive knowledge in the area. Team members will need to bring their own bike and be physically fit enough for riding 40-90km a day at extreme altitudes, as the highest pass on this journey is a whopping 5400m above sea level. With thin air, there is no hiding in the pack on this ride…
Duncan Chessell is the expedition co-ordinator and director of DCXP, contact via duncan@dcxp.com or direct on ( 08 ) 8232 4433 or 0414 804055 (mobile).
Sample images from earlier expeditions are available on line in the DCXP galleries.
And now for the important information;
