Sad news today's as one of mountain biking's finest websites closes it's doors. It has been a great couple of years, generally speaking, but all good things must eventually come to an end. MTBX.com will be taken down by the end of this year, mostly due to lack of motivation to keep it fresh. A lot of hard work went into the constant development of this site and it just never really paid off. I want to personally thank all of the companies and individuals that have shown us great support. If it weren’t for the companies who donated product for reviews and giveaways, and the great feedback from the readers, this would have happened long ago. As it is, life is short and there are just too many other activities out there left to do. I have met some great friends in this industry due to having this site and from that prospective it has definitely been worth it. I wish everyone the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Chris Gil
Founder of MTBX.com MTBX has been one of Farkin's main sources for over seas racing news over the past year, and will be sorely missed. |

This from Miles Mead who is also over in the states."..just dropping you a line to tell you that benny is out with a broken collarbone, and I reckon he's lucky thats all as the crash was the worst I have ever seen by far. I was following him down original sin, craziest track at whistler, we were punching this straight at like 60-70 k's that has a large shoot at the end, Benny pre-jumped and floated past the shoot and landed straight on his head and shoulder and then starting flipping head over heals in the air, fully ragdolling. The guy looked like he was dead, laying there motionless for a while. He couldn't get up for ages which seemed to really bother him. I rode down and got the patrolls and they took him to hospital. I talked to Rando later and he said he looks alright but just really down that this is the end of his season. Sun has just come out, so I gotta go ride. miles mead." Thanks Miles
So there you have it, another very unfortunate end to a season. Best wishes to Benny for quick recovery. |

Another sponsorship opportunity, this time for Vario bikes.Singletrack Imports in association with Vario-bikes, France, are looking for Co-factory riders in Australia. We are looking for one rider in each of DH, XC and 4X to ride for us at Aussie races. Please note that these are co-factory riders and not full sponsorship offers. The selected riders will be asked to pay for the bikes at import cost and receive clothing and team support from SI and Vario. If riders can convince their local bike stores to buy their bikes for them and therefore have a second sponsor we would in most cases be happy to agree to that. Vario bikes can be found at www.vario-bikes.com. Please send applications, including race results and personal resume here. |

Press release:Genesis………………. The Beginning.
From the beginning of the Drop In Tour of 2003 there was a plan in place to do a movie. We couldn’t shoot 10 – 15 hours of footage per episode without using more than the 24 minutes needed for the show. We needed to give the fans of Drop In, who didn’t like the lifestyle aspects of it, something that hit hard.
We gave Milkman the go ahead to start work collecting his favorite shots for the movie that would cater to the more hardcore within the Mountain Bike industry.
He wanted to call it Genesis.
The name signifies Milkman’s first Freeride Mountain Bike flik. We asked him how that could be since he had created Idun’s promo videos – The Monkeystyle videos. He insisted that this was to be his first official crack at editing footage of some of the best in the world ripping trails, gapping roads, hucking cliffs, as well as his specialty which has been street riding.
The total package is Mountain Biking.
Milkman spent two months painstakingly sifting through all of the 150+ hours of raw footage to find the moments that make this film drip with style. He did the whole film while sitting on a beat up old mattress on the floor of his Vancouver apartment with his computer on a milk crate. When I saw him working like this it made my back hurt.
The ‘movie stars’ of this zero budget blockbuster are Chris Donahue, Steve Romaniuk, Dylan Tremblay, Super T, Dangerous Dan, Jared Jespersen and more.
Bonus features on the DVD include Rampage ’03, Doug Fink’s section, Steve Romaniuk rides the famous Rose Hill trail, scrap footage, and more.
Milkman captures where the roots of mountain biking, where it is at, and where it is about to go!
Whenever you need to get pumped for a ride, learn a new move, or just chill to some sweet beats throw in this vid and it will deliver.
Available soon at www.pinkbike.com
Check out the second of three teasers here.
enjoy. On a side note, I'll be posting my Drop In series 2 review in the next week or so. |
