 | Elite "roadie" killed whilst training! (11 comments) (link) Tuesday, 19-July-2005 11:10 AM - by Grip | |
|
Sad news this morning for all cyclists across the board... elite Aussie road cyclist, Amy Gillett, was killed yesterday whilst on a training ride with the Australian team in Germany.
Amy, and the pack of eight she was riding in, was hit head on by an out-of-control car at high speed. Another rider is in a critical condition and five others have suffered serious injuries including multiple broken bones.
Amy (29 and from Victoria) was a former Olympian (rowing in '96) and a member of the Ballarat/Sebastapool club who took up cycling only 5 years ago. She was recently picked for the Australian team to compete in the upcoming Commonwealth games and was considered a real medal chance.
The MTB team and members at Farkin.net offer their condolences to Amy's husband, family and friends. |

Squeeze into your tightest pair of girls jeans, clip up that chain wallet and comb your hair down over one eye Brisbane riders, because it's time to get your jib on.
On Saturday the 9th of July there is going to be a large collective of local street / skate park riders and dirt jumpers congregating at Jindalee skate park. Starting at 10am riders will be riding, socialising and rocking along with a DJ playing in the annexe. A trick of the day comp will be run in the skate park and on the dirt jumps for anyone who's up for it, with prizes for the first and second place getters.
The objective of the day is to bring together all types of riders to promote and inspire street and dirt riding in Brisbane. Everyone is welcome and this is an entirely free event. The whole day has been put together by 2 local riders and is supported by Timmy and Tomac @ ForTheRiders.com
Jindalee skatepark is located in Amazon Place Park on page 177, R19 in your UBD. The easiest way to access it is to drive down Pavilions Court and park in the dirt carpark at the end. If the carpark is full or there was heavy rain the night before, use the Amazons Central carpark, as the complex is abandoned anyway.
Jindalee has 3 various sized dirt jump lines consisting of 2 four foot high tables, 2 five foot high doubles with a hefty lip and a 12 foot gap on the second, a set of rollers and a four and a half foot high hip. The skatepark is also one of the most open and big-wheel friendly parks in Brisbane, so don't be shy if you've never ridden a park before. |
