MV Australia have recently been in contact with Canberra Off-Road Cyclists to inform us that there have been riders on the DH, XC and MtnX trails. These people have not only ridden the trails, which are all CLOSED, but have also taken down the bunting, safety netting, para webbing and some fencing to make the track seem open.
These riders are not only damaging the trails, but are also making more work for the trail builders, who have more than enough work already getting the tracks ready for the National championships in January.
If these riders continue to ride the trails it will severely impact the ability of the trails to hold up to the hundreds of riders at the National Championships and quite possibly impact on the ability of MV Australia to finish their job (they are spending time that should be used to finish the trails on fixing safety netting and closing the tracks again).
The Mt. Stromlo trails are ALL CLOSED to riders. This is as much for safety reasons as any others, as machinery is still being used on the trails. Please respect the wishes of Glen Jacobs and MV Australia, as well as CORC, who are trying their upmost to provide you with the best mountain biking facility in Australia.
The trails will be open after the 2007 National Championships 100% of the time, free of charge. It's not that long to wait, so please, do the right thing. |

There has been some confusion of the opening date for the new Mountain Bike tracks at Mt Stromlo, Canberra.
The MTB park portion of Stromlo Forest which includes the DH, MtnX & XC tracks will be open from the National Championships in January.
Only the DH & MtnX are open this weekend for the Brindabella Challenge to which afterwards all the tracks will be closed with barricades, fencing and gates until the opening dates.
The reason for this is simple. The tracks need to compact naturally and for insurance reasons the area is still a construction site. MV Australia, who are the designers and consultants of this facility have a delivery date for these professional courses of January 25th 2007. Once open, anybody can ride these tracks when needed.
The DH that will be ridden this weekend is without the start mound, road crossing bridge and finishing straight. The course will be adjusted to suit these insertions. There are sections of the downhill which are not the final course, and are re-routed temporary tracks. Riders will be riding 90% of the final product.
The MtnX that will be ridden this weekend will be the shaped track without top soil dressing, finishing straight, start gates and spectator mounds.
All these items have been scheduled to be installed after the New Year.
The race this weekend gives riders a sneak preview of what to expect once the park is opened.
Thanks to Glen Jacobs for the heads up. |

Third day of construction.
Today saw the final touches put on the Thredbo Mountain Cross course. Because of limited ski field space, this above ground temporary track is located in the same location as last year. Glen used 1200 tonnes of soil, 2 excavators, 3 4 wheelers, 7 workers with rakes and shovels as well as compactors to finish the track in a record 3 days. Unlike larger permanent courses, the Thredbo course will be in place until first snow. It will then be plowed into the ground to make way for the beginner ski area.
Glen is now back in Canberra to get the new Mt Stromlo Mountain Cross course into a race ready condition. The course will be open for 1 day during the Brindabella challenge, but will be closed again until the Nationals Championships in January 2007. The track will be open to the public after this event.

Second day of construction.
Word from the man himself (Glen Jacobs) is that they'll be finishing the start straight tomorrow which will feature the main jumps. Total length for this pure race track should be around the 40 second mark.
The pics tell the rest of the story.

While this is not really an update, it has some vital information that many of you need to know. The most important bit is that this is a pre-entry ONLY event, so don’t delay in securing your spot in this year’s National Mountain Bike Championships.

First day of construction.
Thredbo’s latest Mountain Cross course is under construction this week.
The latest “temporary above ground” course is located in the same area, with some nice changes from last years track.
Photos show the unique “Glen Jacobs innovation” the “Fish-hook stallwall” featured in the new Angelsea and Stromlo track. Photos show the construction crew with the perfect “MtnX packers” 4 wheel motos shaping the track.
