The main event of today was the 4X finals. In the womens event there were only 8 competitors. Jill Kintner looked awesome all afternoon and easily won all her races. She is now World Champion for the second year in a row. Congrats Jill!
Prokop matched Jill's form in the mens event also winning all of his races. However there was a lot of competition for the other positions with a lot of close racing and quite a bit of crashing. Cedric went down in his first heat. Lopes went down in the 1/4 finals after tangling with Michal Marosi in the second turn. Lopes didn't end up racing the small final which was suprising as it seemed as though him and his bike suffered no damage in the crash. In the final Roger R crashed after the main straight after being second to Prokop for the entire race to that point.
The only aussie to make it past their first heat was Alex Lloyd. He ended up making it to the quater finals although someone has to tell him that he needs to raise the visor on his D2. He looks like a sporty at the moment.

1. Michal Prokop
2. Roger R.

DH seeding today, a few people were on it (the usual suspects; Rennie, Hill, Minaar, Peat); others cruised down for a run lower in the field. The weather was pretty crap, nothing like the blue sky sunshine of yesterday.
Four cross finals tomorrow, held late afternoon (instead of under lights). Results will be posted as they happen.

Hi all. Here's a quick update on what's been happening here in New Zealand over the last few days.
First port of call was the SRAM press camp. It was basically an update of the new gear that they're bringing out in 2007. Many beers were consumed and we also got to ride some of the new stuff on some of the greatest trails ever built. People were saying that Rotorua is the trail riding verson of Whistler and I'm inclined to believe them.
Downhill practice for all classes started at 9:30 this morning. The track is pretty gnarly, a few riders 50/50'ing the jump near the top (that has water in the middle).

The Snowmass NORBA this weekend is the final race in the NORBA series and the overall series title for DS/4X (combined) was up for grabs this evening. Jared Rando (AUS) and Rich Houseman (USA) were locked almost head-to-head in points and the overall NORBA title winner was going to be determined by today's 4X. Unfortunately Jared's chances to be crowned number one were impeded by a rider crashing into him in an earlier round and the "Rando Houseman" match-up in the final round never eventuated and Houseman took the overall win and NORBA series crown with Jared coming in 2nd for the year.

2. Dale Homes (USA/UK??)
3. Cody Warren (USA)

First downhill favourite Barel is out of contention for the Worlds due to injury and now it's Jared Graves. With a killer four cross season so far Graves was looking incredibly strong for the title. He is currently 2nd overall in World Cup 4X competition, was second to Lopes at last years Worlds and has just come off a win at Crankworx.
Since Crankworx Jared has been chilling out at Whistler and preparing himself for the last few races of the season. He had this to say about his crash.
"I got bucked off a drop on a-line, I know the worlds track is a whole lot of steep doubles you have to scrub, so I was practicing a-line on the hardtail, all was going great, then had one of those moments where it all goes wrong and you have no idea why."
Graves broke his scaphoid and clean snapped his thumb in the crash. Recovery time is expected to be 6-8 weeks clearly ruling him out of the World Championships and the World Cup Finals.
Get well soon Jared! |
