Glen Jacobs gave me a call earlier today to ask me to remind people that if there are barricades and bunting across a track/trail, it means that that trail is closed.
While most of the trails on Mt. Stromlo are open, there are new trails being worked on everyday, and until these new trails are finished riding them causes severe damage, and means that it will be even longer until they can be opened. Specifically, the XC descent on the Eastern face of Stromlo coming down from the bridge - it's not open to be ridden yet (which should be obvious because of the signs and bunting closing it off).
It costs money to repair trails that have been ridden before they're open - money that could be spent on other trails or facilities. So please, stick to the open trails, there are heaps of them, so that the work can be completed. |

According to a member on Farkin called 'X' - tomorrow (Monday the 17th September) councillor Tony Hall will be at St. Ives Skate-park looking to see some support from riders for a possible new skate-park somewhere in Kuringai.
Apparently there will be a photographer there for a newspaper or two.
So, get down there at 4:30 to show Mr. Hall that there are plenty of MTBers interested!

Jared would have to be one of the angriest people on the planet right now. Leading his semi final only to blow up his back wheel on a quad jump. He was looking very good and definitely a very good chance for the win. There's always next year...
Caroline was having a great few heats, but had a pretty big crash in the semis which saw her badly bruised and battered. Reports are she has been taken to hospital for observation.
Well done to Lopes and Kintner for their respective wins. Lopes did quite well considering he nearly got eliminated in his semi final. Jill is just dominating.

 | 2007 World MTB Championships - U19 Mens XCO (1 comments) (link) Friday, 7-September-2007 08:42 AM - by Scott | |

The under 19 XCO men had their bite at the Fort William 2007 World Championships course this morning. Two Australia riders lined up to start; Paul van der Ploeg (Mt. Beauty) and nathan Haas (ACT) along with 88 other junior riders from around the world. After a blinding 1st lap Van der Ploeg came through in 13th position but a broken chain and the run to the next technical assistance zone cost him dearly and came through the finish to start his 3rd lap in 65th place. Despite continuing problems with the drive train that meant little power could be transferred he clawed back positions on the last two laps to ultimately finish in 47th place.
Hass, on the other hand appeared to have a relatively trouble free race and he finished a few places in front of Van der Ploeg in 43rd place.
The race though was pretty much dominated by swiss rider Thomas Litscher who almost consistently was the fastest person to lap the course and who finished the 34.2km race with an average speed of 21.14km/h in 1h37m6s.
1. 40 LITSCHER Thomas SUI 1:37:06
2. 6 BRZOZKA Piotr POL 1:37:33 + 27
3. 36 FLETCHER David GBR 1:37:47 + 40

I myself could not even comprehend entering a solo 24 hour race myself, let alone against the fastest and fittest solo riders in the world.
Not only did Johnny enter, he did Australia proud as our highest ranked rider. Check out his words here.
