The sequel to Killing Time, Aaron Chase's first DVD. Counterparts focuses on the new school of mountain biking. It’s stated as progressive riding on the back of the case. This seems to be a marketing managers view of street and dirt riding. Using nature as your playground to try new and different things on a bike.

Basically the DVD features riders such as Eric Porter, Darren Berrecloth, Paul Basagoitia, Cam McCaul, Jeff Lenosky, George Ryan and of course Aaron Chase who hangs with the bros and goes shredding with whomever …wherever. Yep I got that from the back of the case too.

Each rider has his section and instead of shredding they ride and show you what’s possible on a mountain bike. Whether it be dirt jumping or finding cool stuff to ride on, over or around. Your jaw drops with some of the moves these guys pull out. If I knew the names of the tricks I’d tell you but it appears I’m not up with the lingo. Let me just say the moves are cool and they need to be seen to be believed.

Some of the highlights for me were Eric Porters 180 back flips. My dad had to rewind to figure out what just happened. Most of Berrecloths section was fully sic, this guy has some serious skill on a bike. George Ryan using the slums of the US as his playground, he was doing back flips over piles of garbage. To top it off there was a barrel roll in there from someone and lots of hand plants. I love hand plants, they’re wicked bro.

Along with this there was the usual shenanigans mountain bikers get up to when they’re together. There was just enough of this to break up the riding without it becoming annoying. Paul Basagoitia must spend as much time practicing his dance moves as his riding and Berrecloth goes shredding with his skidoo and hucks some big gaps with it in the snow.

The music choice was pretty good, it flows really well with the riding and it's not annoying.  But like always music is a very personal choice. Aaron Chases section is a standout in this area. It goes perfectly with the song that was chosen. It makes you want to ride after watching it which is what any good bike video should do.

This is definitely one of the better bike videos I’ve seen lately. It’s entertaining, doesn’t have anything annoying that can often spoil a video. Like the music to Sam Hills section in Synopsis, that was so bad. Running time is 35-40 minutes. In my eyes perfect for a video like this, any longer and it would be repetitive. In fact there were already many scenes that had been repeated throughout Counterparts, not enough to get annoying but it was obvious. That was really the only downside to Counterparts. For a street / dirt video this is easily one of the best.

If you want to see guys shredding go by an eXtreeeme snow boarding vid, if you want to see some of the coolest moves ever pulled on a mountain bike buy Counterparts.

Thanks to Backlash Productions for supplying Farkin with the review DVD.
