One of my LBS has a camo wheelset for sale cheap, they say it's a singletrack, but there are no stickers or anything on them. They will probably sell the front wheel seperately, so I'm just wondering if it would be a good wheel to use up front? (The fact that I have to ask probably shows I'm not that good/experienced either :) ) Or should I cough up the $200ish and buy a trials specific?

Thanks.

If its a really good price then go for it, plenty of people are running rims like mavic 721's for trials. The main advantage of the trials specific rims is their width, they are very wide which enables you to balance on off camber objects without the tyre folding, this becomes more important on the rear though because you are often balanced with all your weight when rear when rear wheel hopping.

Thanks for the help. I actually just bought a wheel for up front, a WTB xc rim with dice hub... for $50, it may not be ideal but for that price I couldn't say no :)

I have a proper trials wheel on the back so hopefully this will do me for a while.

hey mate just watch out with them rims.i put one on to save weight and i done a tap up and taccoed the rim,it was insanely bent, then we fixed it and i did one hooha then it bent,so just be aware that xc rims can bend

thanks for the heads up. I am still just getting the basic stuff down anyway, so not doing anything big/stressful on the bike. Plus it was too much of a good deal to let go, but yeah I'll definitely be careful on it.
