G'day girls, please excuse me for a moment while I try to get some relevant info from those that know!;)
My fiance has been on a couple of rides around town with me lately (easy stuff on simple bike tracks) and she is riding my STP. She has a sore bum from the seat and I said I'd jump in the girls only section for her and ask what type of saddle you can suggest.
She will be riding the bike once a month for about 2 hours at atime. She has a small bum (hey, it matters when we're talking seats here doesn't it?) and said that maybe a wider saddle with more cushioning would be better for her.
Any suggestions? We ride casually on 90% flat track so she likes to be seated most of the time (except when she rides past me and throws her leg at me to push me off!):o
Thanks girls.

Hi Dozer
Probably first thing to say is that with more riding less bum soreness...good reason to ride more!
I use a Selle Italia Trans Am (women specific) which has been with me through 3 bikes. Super comfy!
I ignore the fact that my other half calls it "the lounge chair" and take comfort in the fact that I'm not the only chick rider that loves this seat...

Yeah I've got a Specialized Avatar Gel, it's basically a cheaper version of the Jett and not women specific (basically meaning it's got a longer nose). The thing is that it's wide enough for my butt (sit bones) as I've got the 155 size (:o the biggest).

Brand doesn't matter so much. In my opinion getting one wide enough is the primary concern, this takes the pressure off the squishy bits. And second of all a cutout generally does help, however it's not essential for everyone if a saddle fits their bum well.

The Avatar is not a soft saddle by any means, and I generally ride in normal clothes. So on longer rides I will end up with a sore butt purely from not being used to spending more than an hour on there at a time, in such cases I think bike shorts would help a great deal!

If she is not riding very often she may still end up with a sore butt until it gets used to a particular saddle, however she would probably know the difference between just being sore and being uncomfortable. When I first got the Avatar it did take a few rides for my bum bones to get used to having to deal with taking all the load.

Something to remember though is that more padding doesn't always mean more comfort. If you have a specialized store near you I'm sure they will let her take several saddles home (one at a time) to see which suits the best.

And just wanted to add, WTB Rocket V seems like a very comfy saddle only if my bum had been smaller.

I'm in agreeance with most of the advice here (if only I'd listenned before!)
The issue of saddles is very much an individual one and its a case of seeing what fits your butt best.
As the girls before have said your backside does get used to things over time but knick/padded shorts help sooo mcuh.
For what its worth I have a WTB Speed She (WTB do some good saddles) and a Giant Femme saddle.
Goodluck with finding the right seat.

Ah thanks girls! I'll get my little lady to have a read of your thoughts later and we'll start something from her. Very much appreciated!:D
