Just had the chance 2 times last week to ride the 3 & 6 hour endurance course for this weekends upcoming race at Anglesea. Saturday 27th October. Check out:www.surfcoast6hour.com.au
for more info and for location etc...
I ride this area regularly and know there are some awesome trails to ride. Knowing that the area is also sensitive to "eco" issues, I was unsure if the course would have enough of the "fun factor" as well as enough challenges for such an event.
consesus is: Fantastic course for a twilight race(4pm-10pm or 4pm-7pm) as there is nothing technical that is going to give any grief to riders come darkness.
Fun twisty and flowing single track connects an assortment of management trails, disused double track, dirt roads, and some walking track. Sections of the course overlook the ocean and you can see Anglesea and Pt Roadnight, including Lorne in the distance. There is a few not so nice hill climbs, not technical or anything or even long, just leg sapping as there are no smooth lines on a few of the climbs.
Perfect race for training ride too if you are doing the 3 hour or even the 6 hour. Loads of fun...and for me, close to home for once and will be able to sleep in on Sunday.
Does anyone regularly ride this area around Eumeralla Scout Camp, Anglesea? If you do, or think you would like to, I am trying to encourage people to enter race as it will really help lift the profile of mountain biking in the area. You Yang's and Forrest are close by and it would be awesome to start developing this area as well and contribute to the reasons people travel to the Geelong and Surf Coast region! send me a message if you want to go for a spin! Early morning to you all! as I write this it is 4:25am on sunday morning. I cannot really sleep well as I have just finished this race at Anglesea last night at 10:05pm.
I came an honourable 2nd behind Alex "ze German" who took out the SOLO women just recently at Scott 24 hour.
Alex and I had a bit of a battle which she ended up winning. Good on her.

Thanks to the guys at Southern Exposure for an unreal event. Well done Mick for having some guts to get this event off the ground.
