View Full Version : iron horse e-13 linkage
Jared, just wondering if your Team bikes will be using the e-13 (evil) linkages that the SGS pro models are being sold with this year, i've been reading alot of what the evil designer dave (DW on ridemonkey.com forums) has to say about them and he reckons they are a vast improvement over the standard iron horse links.
(sorry but i'm a geeky tech head but i like to know these things)

rumour has it... team madcatz will actually be receiving the fully redesigned 2004 models bikes very early this season. They will most likely do 1 or 2 races on the '03 model bikes (which are apparently good) then the rest of the year on the '04.

Hcor Exclusive!!
Here's some shots of the proto 04 swingarms.
Props to dw for the design work and Clifcat for the welding
They will be on the team's bikes when they get back from the Scotland WC.
(ps...no, I don't have any 'extras' for people to buy. These are only for the factory guys. We should have some production ones for sale for '04.)

...Ricky's bike??....Oh that really does suck...
That new stay is supposed to be 11x stiffer than the old one, direct from the mouth of DW.

yeah, in the right situation maybe, but..........i fail to see how increasing the box section a bit is gonna make that much difference considering a 4 bar gets most it's flex from the pivots. And that doesn't look a whole lot different to any other DH horstlink chainstay so i can only assume it must have been pretty damn flexy before.
I'm not the engineer though.

The thing is, they might be talking 0.01mm flex for a given situation as compared to 0.11mm.... WOW THAT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE!

My point is, the complete rear end when assembeled is probably not 11x stiffer. The stay it'self might be if you tried to bend it in a press or something, but the complete rear end is what you feel when riding.

Oh don't be sorry Turley
I don't doubt for 1 second that Mr Weagle knows his shit. My point is, the chainstay itself might be 11x stiffer, it doesn't mean the whole rear end is 11x stiffer. And DW never said the whole rear end was any stiffer at all so............though it probably is.
I won't call it bullshit marketing, i just think Socket maybe misinterpreted what he said. And thats assuming DW was being 100% serious. Not too sure on this either.

The lower swing arm on my bike drops down from the pivot point and the new one shown hear is straight so that will change the configeration of the rear end as well as the stifness.
