We can always come and get u if u like, one of us can ride up and meet u. Giving directions, if you don't KNOW the city at all, might be abit silly, and then you'll get lost. So yeah, if u want one of us to meet u, we can do that.

I shall be there, with my horrible and ugly forks and with bells on. Yes that will be me. And for those coming in by train it will probably be easier if you get off at Southbank station, sooo much closer and much harder to get lost, I think, yes lets just go with that, harder to get lost from there. :?

The next one will hopefully be next week.. we will have a better plan of attack next time round. Maybe even orgainise a day at a jump park or something... anywho, thanks for showing up all who did, it was great to meet you all, although i remember NONE of your names! :D

Better review...hrmmm... Started out at QUT worked our way over to the Roma Street Tunnel, where we saw some very good displays of riding talent there, lots of style thrown in by the "no-helmet" guy on the red santacruise (we would love names next time  ). All the boys hit this up though, and made it look easy. Then we headed up to the long stairgap on albert street, teased the lazy dh'lers into doing WALKING up there to do it, and that was fun. Then we cruised over central station, whilst leaving creepyjoe behind to do the first puncture repair. Then the few brave amongst did the Mincom stairs... the escalators were guarded... damn them. THEN we headed down to the Reveria (which i hadn't riden to before) and we had one of our number get wet feet on the waterfall stairs, and we had both santacruise boys hit up the stairs just a few meters from there... the nice black santacruise was still alive at this point! And the "no-helmet" red santacruise hucked 5ft to flat, which is always fun.
As we were deciding where we were to go, the we meandered on a RATHER SMALL set of stairs. To memory it was 3 steps, a meter gap and 3 stairs. This is what broke the black stantacruise. He was riding up one of these mammoth stairs, and as the back wheel collected the bottem stair, and the front wheel touched the gab... it split in half, leaving the frame in two pieces, and everyone with stunned expression on their faces. We have photos, but have to get them developed, so stay tuned for that one.
We all decided to go to southbank at this point and we found out who can pedal and who can't. Mostly dh'lers of course! *runs* This is where we HAVE to mention the man on the Kona Stuff... who manualed the intire length of the Goodwill Bridge. Show off. :D Then we headed down to the Piatzza at southbank with creepy serfing on his bike part of the way. At the piatzza, creepy got his second flat tyre, so no more fun for him. Then we headed to conservatorium stairs and hit those up. We then bascially ended the night with the stairs outside the Lyric Theatre. May i just add that my lesson for the night (along with Zookes) is that we WANT a duely. Ok.. now i'm done. See u boys next week... we will find some more stuff too... on easy to meduim levels.
Note to peachy... Is THAT detailed enough? Actually... how about u just come with us next time???

Well...
This is the first time I've written anything in these forums (hi everyone) and I wish it was for a better reason. I was the guy on the black Santa cruz (fanty poo? what what?) 1st gen super 8 and yes it was nice and black and in one bit untill last night. this makes me sad.
The way I choose to look at it is as follows
it was a 5 year old bike that I bought second hand a few months ago. at the time there was no visible cracks or imperfections in the frame but who knows. I guess that's the risk you take with second hand anything really.
it was an unlucky break that happened at a good point in time. I was just riding up a very small set of stairs and the bike decided to pack up and go home, Ive ended up with a bit of fluid in my knee, that's all. I think it's safe to say, if that had have happened on a stair gap I would still be in hospital.
anyway have a look at the damage, I might even find it funny if it wasn't my bike... still not sure what I'm going to do about it.

Guess it's time for an upgrade... I was just getting used to it too, oh well

First gen? woah, it's lasted a while, that's for sure.
This reminds me of Wookies RM7 that died the other week, check out "phat snaps" for his results.

oh yeah,,,saw the broken bike at Al`s Street Dirt & Vert shop last night,,,awsome snap,,,but it was broken for quite a while going on the look of the old dirty crack where it started from underneath.
cool man, very cool.
& Al said something about a "sort of" warrantee in the form of a severly reduced cost new frame...
how cool is that for such an old frame & from a factory that proffesses to not have any warrantee program at all.
it`s all about Santa cruise,,,Dam i might even have to buy one soon myself,,,Stew is picking up his new one today.
:-)

dude that majorly sucks. as u said, least it didn't fail on the stair gap :)
all those parts would build up a killer hardtail if u're on a budget. nice forks :)

well my bike was done with by the time everyone was at the con stairs but we drove the truck over from the city and met up with everyone again.
Kyean (emerin called him no helmet guy earlier) was the only person that hit up the gap at the con, he was too lazy to lift his super 8 out of the ute so he did it on the Intense Tazer that al was riding, not a bad effort on a 4 and a half inch travel bike!
Yeah about how old the crack must of been in that frame, both al and I looked over that frame really closely, when I first got it. Before it was powedercoated I couldn't put my new toy down... it must have been a really really small fracture.
But yeah as you said MadMatt I think al might be able to do me a really good deal on a NEW (i.e not second hand !!) v10. Good luck breaking that! And al had it all sused out early on friday morning for me. I won't say much more cos I don't know all the details, but I will say is al (and santa cruz) is really looking after me. So considering how crap it is that I don't have a bike at the moment and my knee it still twice it's normal size I really couldn't be happier with the whole situation. I just have to find some money... it will be worth it. The only thing is I will have no excuse for being slow!

Well Lukes bike wasn’t the only thing to break on thursday
While we were at the infamous 3 stair gap I was attempting to rear hop and as I sat down heard what I thought was a rip in my shorts. Had a feel to see if it was but couldn’t feel a hole so i thought it was just them rubbing against the seat.
But on closer inspection when I got home I found I’d put a hole in the back :(
But i don’t think ill be able to get warrantee :(
MadMatt
28-03-2004, 09:01 PM
yeah , Kyean is nutso ,,,top fella tho...& i think the intense was timmys,,,Al was on it this morning at Cootha with us,,,oops,,,now i`m gonna get Al in trouble with Timmy :-)
& Luke,,,just don`t powder coat your bikes from now on,,,the powder coating can mask any small craks as it`s plastic coating & it will stretch & contract & not show up the crack underneath,,,,it also sweats & causes corrosion underneath which you also can`t see cause it`s under the plastic.
i won`t powder coat anything, seen it crap things up too many times.
heaps of my mini customers allways go on & on about powder coating shit cause it looks so nice, but when i tell em what happens they wake up & just paint the shit...i`d rather just look over my bike from time to time & actually "see" a crack starting, than have that shit happen to me.
:-)

good advice, thanks.
won't have to worry about that with the new frame though :D
Emerin
28-03-2004, 11:16 PM
Well at least something good has come out of this frame snapping, pant ripping ride! We all know that powder coating is evil. But just a quicky, i won't be organising a ride for this week as i won't be able to be there myself. I'm too busy and working all week. So it's up to you boys! And i'd like to add that it's typical now that i've got my bike back that i can't ride... :x
