Cadel Evans: On Tour

This documentary begins by delving into Cadel's early years where he first learnt to master a bicycle as a toddler on the dusty roads of his home town in Katherine, Northern Territory. It continues to explore the events in his life that led to becoming the first Australian in 104 years on the podium at the Tour de France. "Cadel and his musically-inspired wife Chiara invited SBS into their home to give us an insight into the world of an elite cyclist who is currently enjoying the spoils of global success," said Michael Tomalaris, SBS Host of the Tour de France. Most of the doc was a recount of last year's TDF which, for me at least, is a well known story. I'd have preferred to see more on the early days - particularly the mountain biking.

I was amused to see that he wore the same checked jacket for his interview on SBS as he did for the Cronulla crit on Sunday afternoon on Nine. It's obviously a favourite!

I was going to stay up and watched it but read in the Sydney Morning herald an article that he didn't allow any figures or numbers from testing to be in the doco. For me the the most interesting bit.

I was impressed with Mcewen's interview. Must be hard when you are one of the main focus points of a team to realise next year you may have to take a back seat and work with the team to get someone else over the line instead of focusing on results for yourself.

As for Cadel it seems hard to get too many words out of him but how gracious was he?

"Some times you have good days sometimes you don't. If I had a real good day in the time trial I would have won the tour. I didn't have a real good day..."

I was also impressed with Robbie's interview, not so much impressed with his shirt.

"If the team is going to be weighted towards Cadel next year, then I bloody well expect him to win the TdF !" .... or words to that effect.

I really enjoyed it (my folks really enjoyed it as well).

During the doco it felt to me that he's a shy guy by nature who's been thrust into the limelight by the media because of something he really enjoys doing and that he struggles with the media attention.

I also noticed the jumper he was wearing in the doco was the same when interviewed at the Cronulla Crit and I also thought Robbie's words were great. It would be hard for someone like Robbie to have to take back seat - but he was very gracious about it also I thought.

I now just need Cadel to win the TdF next year and I'm sure that signed magazine cover of Cadel I have will get me some serious $$$... :p

I thought it started very well, especially the with plenty of the old MTB footage. Evan an old pic if him on the Blue Apollo Expert !
It did well reviewing his rise over the last 5 years on the road, but then as as joemax said recounting so much of last years tour.....while nice to relive the moment .....did waste time when they could have asked more questions to the man himself :(
Overall I was happy they paid homage to his MTB roots, and for any noncycling viewer the AIS should have made it clear he the best talent they have ever had :D
