I have been looking for the past 6 months for a road bike and there has been many contenders but now i think i have narrowed it down to 2 bikes... What do you guys think ?

First bike that has caught my eye was the cell triumph:

I like the specs of this bike but i am a bit worried about the quality of the frame and the geometry. I have not heard of anyone who has owned a cell bike before so if anyone has bought/ridden one of there bikes could you share their thoughts?

Bike No. 2 the scott speedster S30 CD

Im favouring this bike at the moment just because i have always liked the look of scott bikes and scott have a good reputation that i know of.

Anyways tell me what you think and i am open for any other suggestions on other bikes in this price range (nothing over $1700).

Have a look at the Giant OCR Alliances- they have a much better frame and build kit than both those bikes. Carbon top tube and seatstays for compliance, and aluminium down tube and chainstays so it goes forwards rather than sise to side. If you must, go for the Scott, as I wouldn't be trusting any of the cheap carbon parts on the Cell (Cheap carbon bars and seatposts are far from reliable...). Remember to budget $100+ on fitting if you're buying a bike online too, because it will be the most crucial part (check that your shop is including this- nothing worse than getting sore from the bike rather than the endurance).

yeah i have looked at the ocr alliance in the past and it was definatly up there... what turned me off was that it only had tiagra gear on it and i was looking for 105 and above. But you do make a good point about the frame, it does seem like a good value in that respect and the frame is the most important part of the bike i guess...

Yeah im not really planning on buying online because of that very reason, then plan was vist the shop and get the bike fitted there.

I was definately thinking the scott of the two because im not sure what im getting with the cell but now i will definately check the giant out now.

^^what he said. With less of a giant leaning. The scott looks alright and these days they seem to be good value for money.

I know its a bit OT but you really should consider ebay etc etc. You could score a very nice 2nd hand roadie for the money your after. Ive seen some very nice specialized tarmac comps/BMC streetfires etc etc in your price range. Also - have a squiz at the avanti carbonio - they look good for the money.

Having said that - ive had bikes with both 105 and Ultegra and didn't notice the difference all that much. Shimano shifting is always good no matter the gruppo so dont let 105 put you off.. its good gear. Consider campag as well - it really is nice.

Happy roadie-ing...

i have checked ebay out a few time but im a bit worried about getting a second hand bike online without seeing it or riding it first. I have been burnt by ebay once before...

im not too worried about 105 gear, just the gear below that... i have not seen a bike in my price range with campag gear. I will have another look ;)
