The 2nd Round of the Queensland MTNX Series went off with a bang over the weekend at the Logan City BMX track. The track was fantastically converted from a BMX track into a MTNX track by Randal Huntington. It had everything from big jumps, tight, loose, flat corner turns to rocks, logs and a banked wall ride.
Atmosphere was high when both, the Red Bull girls turned up with free Red Bull for all, and the For The Riders.com promo girls where handing out free prizes to spectators and riders.
In the Elite Men numbers were high with the usual favourites looking to take out the win. Randal Huntington (Norco, For The Riders) was in the lead coming into the final with 4 wins under his belt. Adam Nicholson (Unit, Cannondale, For The Riders) was also looking good after coming back from a dislocated knee. Also in the final was another For The Riders team-mate, Cameron Allonby & UMF, Answer rider, Michael Young.
Adam & Randal were both out first and lead all the way down the 1st straight. Nicholson then managed to take the lead over Huntington in the 2nd flat corner. The racing was heated from there with Huntington making a last minute attempt for the win on the last corner. Nicholson held it together to literally win by an inch. Huntington came in 2nd, Allonby in 3rd and Young in 4th.
In the Under 19 Men we saw Mitchell Thorpe win every race throughout the day including the final to take out 1st Place, followed closely behind by Ryan Chesney in 2nd and Justin King in 3rd.
The Sport Men was one of the biggest category’s of the day. The win was taken out by Jack Weitenburg, while the minor placing's were furiously fought for, by the remaining 3 riders. 2nd place was grabbed up by Dain Case with 3rd going to the race organizer and Queensland’s #1 female, Sarsha Huntington (Norco, For The Riders) closely followed by her brother-in-law, Justin Huntington.
The last round of the series takes place on the 6th April @ Toowoomba Show Grounds. Please look out for details on this website and other mountain bike websites.
