View Full Version : Shaving your legs...where do you stop !!

Hey,
" A mate of mine " wants to know, if he starts shaving his legs, for all the usual various reasons, and he`s a bit hairier than most, where is the cut off point between newly shaved and non shaved ?
For example, is mid thigh a good place to stop, or at the leg cuff of your knicks ? If you do a bit of lap swimming as well, this will look a little off putting in your budgie smugglers yeah ?
All advice happily accepted.....I`ll pass it on to " my mate ".

I personally enjoy the "all-body" wax.

I mean, all you really need is eyebrows and head coverage anyway.

I went the full leg wax a couple of times before the pain made me consider shaving. On my first shave, as I worked my way up, I had the same dilemma as "your mate" and, as I was doing a bit of lap swimming at the local pool in the budgie smugglers at the time, had to go all the way up to the nether regions. It just looks incredibly wrong if you don't.

Having said all that, though, if I get back to wanting bald legs some day, I'll be going back to waxing. After the redness goes over the first couple of days, it last much longer and feels much better under the knicks.

shaving ends mid thigh, about where boxer shorts end, and then don't wear budgie smugglers - you can get some euro gucci swimmers or HTFU and swim in boardies... any extra resistance is good.

Waxing your legs is overkill and a waste of beer money.

oh shit another constructive comment......................waxing is way better, find a hot/nice/knows what shes doing waxer 1st, if your only wearing knicks than a 3/4 should be fine providing your not as hairy as a bear, after you get waxed a few times it takes longer for the hair to grow back as well. i get about 6 weeks out of a wax, was about 4 before i started. well worth $35 which includes a nice rub down and moisturise also and it only takes about 20 minutes max.

please refer to rule 4 of the official rules of a euro cyclist

4. Legs will be SHAVED year-round. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS. Certain hair removal creams are endorsed only on a case-by-case basis. One shall never show up to a race (large or small) with ANY AMOUNT of stubble visible on legs.

When I was doing Tri's I did all my legs cause it aint cool rocking up to swimming with half shaved legs. Now I am only on the bike just above bib line.

It's short pain, but it's pretty sharp in places. Back of the knees and front of the thighs killed me. Scrubbing the hell out of your legs in the shower with your girlfriend's loofah the night before helps reduce the pain. Moisturising helps too, but I really need to shut up now. :o BTW - don't forget to tell them to do your toes if yours are as hairy as mine. Smooth legs with furry toes is another look to add to the "Fail" list.

Right...lets work this out. No furry toes/smooth legs combo, no budgie smugglers, and don`t ask for any happy endings. Should just about cover it.
So the consenus is wax, don`t shave, but go for the bald legs look !?

No, ripping your pubes out with hot wax feels tops. Of course it bloody hurts when every hair on your gooch is ripped out in one horrible sounding motion.

We are meant to be big strong tough blokes. The fear aroused by a waxing discussion is quite disappointing really.

Sack/crack - yes it hurts. Legs - not really.

Agreed. It sounds like an ongoing nightmare without many benefits. I'd prefer to just rip the hair out of my legs when pulling bandages off when recovering from a stack.

If ever there was a subject for needle-quoting in a signature, this may be it.

This thread, tops, though that said the number of people who have told me I should shave my legs lately has got me thinking (so far, I'm still thinking "no"). Aside from being put off by the fact it needs to be re-done every few days otherwise it becomes ridiculously uncomfortable, there's also the whole getting given shit by other guys.

Simple answer - your eyebrows.

Mate, by the questions your asking, and the 'memo to self' about the hairy toes, you are probably a Wookie. Don't take this too heart, but please God don't stroll down to your local pool for a few laps with freshly waxed pins and a carpet covering your guts. Just man up and get the whole fuggin' lot done. Moisturise, slide into bed next to your lovely lady, and if she doesn't like it, tell her it's all cool and you will be back to your former 'wookie self' in 4.5 weeks !!

No Biggie ;)

If she loves it - you'll be better for the experience.

shaving is fine but a pain in the ass, and waxing takes even longer

none of them hurt what so ever..

the easiest is to pay some random chick to do it for you, there is a place next to my work that does 10% off for cyclists and about 70% off for our shop staff or something like that.. I CBF paying, but meh if it gets some flange rubbing up my calves it might be worth my time

How long does the hair take to come back? I have never shaven thy legs, but after spending half an hour pulling glass and dried blood out of my leg hairs today+upcoming tattoo on my leg, Im thinking I might go hairless.

One thing I cannot handle is maintaining myslef regularly, I always forget/cbf shaving my face...so I don't think my legs would have much of a chance. What takes longer to grow back, wax or cream? And reccomend a brand would be nice:D

I`m with you there Ross. I`m afraid if I do go down the shaving route, my legs will go the way of the lawn, the unwashed cars, the pile of clothes beside the bed, unpacking the clean dishwasher, the crooked pictures on the wall.....you know, the list of unfinished business.

Don't go the hair removal cream, it sucks. There is little difference between cream and shaving as far as grow back time goes, and both leave an annoying stubble. Man up and get waxed, it hurs like hell the first time and every time after that but last so much longer and you don't end up with 5 day stubble growth all over your entire body. I creamed my very hairy chest a few times and its is amazingly uncomfortable when the hair starts growing back. For a couple of weeks my chest was all prickly, to the point where lying on my chest was unpleasant and my girlfriend refused to hug me.

What do you want to shave your legs for?

I'm in the process of growing it all back. I'm too fat and unfit for it now.

Any tips on the regrowth? Stopping ingrowns?

Will it grow back thicker and longer?

I really don't want this as my nickname at school was rug so you can imagine how hairy I am.

And to answer how far, all the way to the groin. Stopping halfway up the thigh just looks wrong.

Ah, a man speaking from experience. I never noticed if your legs were shaved Jase, because after you told me about kidney fat, I hardly dared to look !

And I was wondering how long it would take until you dropped in on this thread.

I`m thinking I`m a little hairy to get away with shaved/waxed legs and be comfortable with regrowth and maintenance. The breadknife waxes friends on the side, and shes rubbing her hands together in anticipation at the thought of being unleashed on me.

One of the major benefits of shaving (or waxing) your legs is that you can treat yourself to a leg massage. I find that there's nothing better after big rides or extended bouts of training.

As for where to stop - I go up to just below the budgie smuggler line which is further than any masseuse is ever likely to go :o

Did you notice a vastly different look of your legs when they were hairless, apart from the obvious. You didn`t , for example, realise you had sparrow legs under the hair and wished you hadn`t waxed ? Or was it an impressive sight ?

Pffft. It's the easiest thing in the world. Get a wax every 3-4 weeks. Costs me $20 too, she's an absolute champ. $50 is the cheapest I've seen elsewhere, with some places trying for $80+, and others acting as if it was the most heinous request even though the specialise in brazilians for women.

Don't go the hair removal cream, it sucks.

Truth. Horrible stuff.

I'm fair so my hair was nigh on invisible to start off with even though there was a fair bit of it. I can't claim that my legs are an "impressive sight" hairy or hairless :p I ride with a roadie bunch each weekend and at least half of us have clean legs.

I now shave every week or so, it gets much easier when you're only shaving stubble. The first time I shaved I couldn't get all the hair off no matter how many times I went over with the razor but after shaving again the next day and the day after that they came up pretty clean. I apply lots of Aloe Vera cream after shaving and don't get much in the way of a rash.

I've not tried waxing because of the cost (shaving is free) but I may give it a go after the comments here.

And reccomend a brand would be nice:D

it grows pretty quick, it's prickly in under a week generally

^^^Meh not worth it, also if I was going to do anything, I would do it myself. I can not at all envisage myself going into some place to pull someone to rip hairs out of my body:eek: And is that electrolysis the real deal? How much treatment would you need and would it grow back? Also a prognosis on waxing yourself? Sounds really suss haha.

The first time I shaved I couldn't get all the hair off no matter how many times I went over with the razor but after shaving again the next day and the day after that they came up pretty clean.
Before you shave for the first time go over your legs with a set of clippers. Makes it so much easier, only shaving stubble, razor doesn't clog.

Something I just thought of earlier. Even without the 'bedroom' motivations for waxing my nether regions, there is one shining beacon of goodness that comes from it, and that is when I poo; because I do like to enjoy my alone time on the bog. I have a moderately hairy arsecrack, but with 0 hair it's much cleaner, wiping your arse is infinitely easier without half a dead animal in the way. No clingons or possible dramas when you punch out a nasty one.

Are you talking legs or your man bits?

Hahahaha, the benefits seem endless! Well Im too cheap to go pay someone to do stuff for me, but try to make a mental picture of me trying to wax my own asscrack! Not good, don't think I will be venturing into that territoy.

It's exactly as bad as you'd imagine. Possibly worse.

Tried doing it with the help of an ex, starting around the front. Exceptionally unsuccessful.

That`s sensational......from shaving legs, to budgie smugglers to laying cable....who`d have thought hey ?:o The 6 degrees of leg shaving.

I must thank you for your wonderful shedding of some light on the often undertalked delights of cycling and shitting.

hahaha yes i agree.

i think there's a definite trend in the advice given in this thread-
if your thinking about getting rid of the hair we have evolved to no longer require but we were unfortunate enough to be born a few thousand years to early to have seen the evolutionary demise of it completely, go to a good waxing place, get someone who knows what they are doing and man up and tick every box.

The mental pictures I'm getting right now make me want to partially lobotomise myself with a knitting needle. A+ post. Would read again.

Same experience here. On another note, Veet is ok for doing yout back and legs, but keep it away from the more sensitive areas. Its at least twice as painful as hot wax, trying to spread really sticky goo over you bits takes ages and it feels like every hair gets pulled out about 20 times over. Hot wax goes on nice and smooth, cools down then hurts like hell when you rip it off. Veet hurts during application and removal so AVOID.

Would this work you think. You know one of those kitchen blow torches the Chefs use to brown a Creme Brulee`? Sort of singe the hairs off ? Apart from the nasty smell, surely this would be an effective method of hair removal.;)

If you sit up straight I find the cable flow is easier
