Hey everyone, i just bought my first road bike, because i have done MANY fairly long distance rides, around 50km, on my BMX very easily, so thought the right thing to do would be to buy a road bike and increase my distances and fitness. But, wow, it's so much more diferent than i expected, the constant pedaling really takes its tole on my quads.

Also my stomach hurts after hill climbs, is that normall? And how can i help prevent it? Bearing in mind i have no idea if the bike is the right size for me, i seem to remember it being a 56" frame? It has quite a few spacers under the stem, and i ride the seat about level with the bars. Otherwise my feet don't reach the pedals, i'm roughly 5"9 tall. Any ideas?

The road bike i purchased has a Vitus Seven frame, Campagnlo hubs, look pedals, i don't the name of the bars, and all other parts seem to be Veloce. I was also wondering if this is any good? It weighs 18pounds and only cost me £100 ($215 AUS) so obviously i'm not expecting it to be the best bike in the world, but i'm only a begginer.

Thanks for your time reading, and would greatly apreciate any feedback or comments.
Connor.

Hi Connor,

Sounds too big, I'm 6'2" and ride a 58-60cm.

You got a good deal though, perhaps visit your local bike shop to ask for fitting advice? There are so many variables to consider in proper bike fit.

Sore stomach sounds like seat angle but again, we'd need to see it & you to know for sure.

Your sore stomach may be due to piss poor core strength?

One thing you can do easily yourself is make sure your seat is flat by using a spirit level. Take the bike to your LBS for fitting cause the most important part of riding a road bike is the fit of it.

I find how far forward/back a seat is can lead to soreness as well. I had mine a bit wrong-sore behind the knees. I then adjusted and overcompensated-sore ass. Now its just right:)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll definatly go down my LBS soon then. I'll try and get picks up of me riding, and the bike seperatly soon too. I got 31.5 MPH max today =D that's probably nothing compared to all you experienced people =] but it seemed VERY fast to me =].
Thanks again. Connor.
