Hey I'm Tim.

I'm an Old(er) guy from Sydney. Been around a bit and now am living in Whistler BC. I work for a mountain bike adventure tour company. I'm keen to keep up on MTB in Aussie even though I am here in Canada. So thought Farkin would be a good place to keep up on things back there... I always love it seeing the Aussie riders making there way here during the summer.

Anyway, Keep on pedaling and if anyone wants personal info on Whistler I'm more than happy to give it out. Cheers.

Howdy. Tessa, SA. I've been riding on a recreational/fitness basis for a few years, recently bought a new bike and am now trying to get into... well... anything I have the proverbial testicular fortitude to attempt. Freeride is what originally caught my eye and prompted the bike upgrade.

Hi,

Another newbie to MTBing & fast becoming addicted, purchased a very tidy Norco Fluid 1 from the trading section on this site, check it out at http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=114254, (no idea if that will work). Anyway i'm as proud as punch. Also own a cheapie road bike that i commute on daily, best way to get around.

Looking to enter the AROC 100km enduro event down at Mogo in september, apparently there is 60km of single track! Bit nervous at the distance though as its my first race, but no guts no glory hey? Has anyone done the race last year & how hard is it?

Aro.

Another newbie. I'm Neil from Darwin and have taken up XC riding with doing the the odd race now and then. My goal is to compete in a 100km race and most likely it'll be the Otway Odessy.

Took up riding a couple of years ago when I weighed 107kgs and running was causing more problems then it solved plus riding is more fun. I'm still fat and unfit but thanks to the bike I am somewhat less fat and more fit.

I'm currently riding a Diamondback Topanga which despite being heavy for a XC bike has served me well but some of the parts are showing its age. Hopefully next year I plan to get a XC dually and at the moment I have my eye on the Gaint Anthem 1 and the Diamondback will be relegated from do it all bike to training/commuting bike.

I am a complete novice so i have found the info on here to be priceless. I will probably have a heap of stupid questions but any help sorting out the jargon would be much appreciated.

G'day all, Kem from South Gippsland.

Just got my first bike to get some excercise and chase my kids through the Strzelecki's. Scored a Mongoose Fireball 26 and fitted Avid Juicy's. Seems to work well and i'll upgrade the forks down the track.

I also ride a Beta Rev3 for Moto-Trials and Dual sport on a DRZ to get my daily fix of fear.

Thanks to all on here, for the great info. See you on the trails.

There probably is a thread for this already, but i don't see the point in posting twice when i can quickly post here. Basically, I've been really in to downhill mtb over the last year but never really took it that seriously at all, just went to the local place with a few mates and threw our selfs down hills and I've been doing it on a sarcen awol (awful i know) and now im looking to by a new bike. I'm looking for a simple, but good bike to get me started on downhill mtb. Please inform me if you know any good sites, bikes or anything that would be good.

Hi everyone my name's Nathan and I live in Albury NSW. I try and ride twice a week - mostly all mountain riding on a 6 inch bike, with an occasional DH run but also enduro. riding 2 wheels aint new to me. been racing bmx since i was 3 years old. its been 15 years now! made an attempt to hop onto a 4x bike back at the opening of homebush and the thredbo nationals that year. snapped a new chain in the main at homebush. had about an hours riding before racing and came 3rd riding up an age at thredbo in u19's a couple of years back. been #1 #2 and a few more in australia for bmx!

greatest acheivement was turning AApro when i was only 14!

got sponsored by a new brand UMF (which is pretty much merida) at the end of last year unfortunetly due to a crash i was out from november up untill mid april. just been training to get fit and get ready for national bmx rounds and worlds next year. My training consist of mixing my weekends up with mucking around with a few 4x mates either at a bmx track or 4x track. There now edging me on to get a 4x'er which i think ill do just after the ebeneza round!

basically i enjoy having fun i couldnt care less if its bmx or 4x guys i dont know why we get compared when everyone should be comparing themselves to our neighboring countries who dont fear what we aussies have got!

HI, I'm an old fart of 39 who got into MTB'ing back in the late 80's early 90's. Got on to Farkin to get up to speed with current bike tech and wow it's come a long way. I drifted away from the sport just when Suspension forks were starting to appear on bikes on the shop floor. Worked in a top bike shop 89-93 before getting into the mining industry.
Keen to get a new bike but not sure what flavour. Still got my 91 Shogun Team Issue Prairie Breaker ! I don't do much trail riding here because it's bloody hot and there's water buffaloes around - I'm not fit enough to outride one. They occasionally kill people when they get pissed off !

Firstly, awesome site by the way - i have been using it for a while to source info as I have just gotten into DH, only took me 29 years. I was rattling around the you yangs on my Giant Rincon until i finally saved up enough dough to buy my new baby - a Norco Aline.

Howdy Y'all,

I'm Tom, 25 y/o. Have just started riding again after 3 years off! I ride 50/50 between BMX Street and Free Ride/ All Mountain MTB. Can not get enough of it!

My BMX is an Intense Clutch and my MTB is a (modified) Kona Muni Mula. I realised the other day when I was doing some maintenance that the only original parts left on the Kona are the left brake lever, the bottom bracket and cranks! Hopefully I'll upgrade to a new MTB soon but am saving for a trip round the world at the mo'.

Hi everyone my name's Nathan and I live in Albury NSW. I try and ride twice a week - mostly all mountain riding on a 6 inch bike, with an occasional DH run but also enduro. I like finding out about different riding styles and different bike set-ups to suit. And of course it's always nice to get some new bling every now and then.
Welcome to Farkin Nat, will catch up with you guys for a ride after uni exams finish!

Hi,

I'm new here but not in life (some may say I'm over the hill at least I DH'd my way down), I have decided to join this forum as I'm having my mid life crisis and need to re-gain that enthusiasim I had for MTB about 11 years ago. I'm based on the Gold Coast and ride (about 2 times a year!) in the Nerang proving grounds!

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum (was an inactive member previously). I've Been mountain biking for 2 years and have entered MTB XC races for fun & fitness only (not a serious racer out to beat the world). I've entered 2007 Dirtworks, 2007 Highland Fling & Scott 24hr for 06 and 07 in a team.

My bike portfolio includes a Giant TCR C1 & Giant NRS1 carbon.

I've only started to get a little bit more XC serious with mountain biking. THinking about training to do better in future races.

Hi.
My name is Ela. I'm 31, from Warsaw, Poland. I've been lurking around Farkin for a couple of months now, I didn't really think anyone would bother to hear about me, but hey, there's the newbie section, so here I am, saying hi :)
Me and hubby ride...not sure what to call it... transport riding, a bit of fr and dh, we don't mind a bit of xc either, especially on the way to a nice descent :D Hubby used to race dh and 4x here a couple of years ago (he still does from time to time), he's not too shy about doing stuff on his bike :) and he's teaching me how to do stuff, and even though I'm pretty much a pantspisser I do have my moments sometimes :) Hubby calls what we ride 'extreme bike tourism' :D were not that much of pinners tho...:)
A couple of months ago we started thinking of moving to Australia, so I thought Farkin would be a good place to find out a bit about the country and the people and possibly make some friends and also to practice and improve my english ( feel free to correct me anytime, guess that's how I can learn :) ). We're thinking of moving in a couple of years from now, so I can finish my residency here and have the time to pass all the exams I need to be able to work in Aus, and just to organise the whole thing well.
Hoping for a nice warm wellcome, and, as I said - to make friends here
Ciao.

Hiya - have been lurking as an unregistered user for a while, finally registered! :D I used to race DH in the National Series back in the 90's (I had a personal favourite track called Mt Buller :p ) Was racing Sport Women/Elite women depending on the number of girls that turned up!

Left the sport completely when I took up skydiving (now I can do both :D ) and these last few months have had a hankering to get fit (read: 2 kids later lol) again and race DH - not too sure about the womens scene here in QLD now, I am living in Townsville and will probably visit the Mt Stuart race on Sunday to say gday :D

Its been a while since I knew what bike parts were hot and not - I still remember being excited about 4" of rear wheel travel and the MUDCOWs videos!!! ..woohoo :D

Cheers,

Andrea

Hey. I'm new to Australia, not really new to riding. But I figure that makes me a newbie down under anyway. I'm bike-less right now, but once I find one I want to get out as much as I can.
I'm living in Curl Curl. So if anyone knows where I can find information on trails / races, that'd be sweet.
I used to race downhill, but I was slow, so I fell and broke lots of stuff trying to go fast... and now I ride XC mostly and I'm still slow.
But I still love Mt. Fromme shore style, especially steep and technical.

Let me know if you live around the northern beaches and want to ride or show me around.

Also. If anyone knows a good place I can get hooked up with a hot single speed... :D

peace,

Hi I'm very new to riding.Have not ridden before except mucking around as a kid on a bmx! Decided to give mtb a go after trying almost every sport. I love to be fit and active.
Have been lucky enough to borrow a friends spare bike for a while to see if I like riding. Don't know what type I will prefer, but am willing to give them all a go! Suppose it's like trying before you buy!
Am going to try and get to the social rides for the area and hopefully someone will be able to give me abit of a rundown on all aspects of riding.
I'm not on the younger side of life at 34, with 3 kids, but want to be fit enough to still beat them, playing whatever sport, when they are teenagers!!

Hi Roj, and welcome.
I have been riding for years - 35 soon - and my wife started riding downhill with me last year - she is recently 30 - we have two kids and they love to ride , although they are too young to downhill yet - 3.5 and 6 - they still have a ball playing and watching the jumps.
Have fun!

Well it's my first bike in a long time, equipped with a shock reminiscent of a pogo stick, but it doesn't phase me. Workmates spurred me on to try riding the Oaks with them weekly - and since I've started, it's become pretty much all I think about.

I thank the persistence of those folks daily. Thinking about buying a second bike more suitable for the type of riding I'm currently enjoying so much; the loose rocky stuff, where one can get oh so squirrely.

Greetings all - I read daily with much interest!

So where'd you used to live?

I used to live in Vancouver, BC. But then I got in some trouble with the law and had to run. So I made Bail and bought a one way ticket to Hong Kong, then hopped on a shipping tanker headed for Sydney... and now I'm here!

ok. maybe I didn't do any of that. But I am from Vancouver. I'm actually here on a student internship exchange program for 6 months.
I guess I forgot to say where I was from when mentioning the shore... my bad.

Hey guys

My names michael and i am 13 and i am extremely passionate about riding bikes. I love to do dirtjumps, 4x, downhill/freeride and the occasional street riding is fun. I have been riding for about 10 months now and am very serios about my riding. I live on the sunshine coast in Queensland and although there are some good tracks to ride and jumps i still wish there was more and i am hoping to create some this year. I ride a Giant STP2 and it is ausome for dirtjumping, street and 4x but its a bit rough for downhill and freeride but i am hopefully getting a downhill or freeride bike soon.

I also like to play rugby union and have represented the sunshine coast for under 13's.

Howdy all! I've made my way here from the Western Sydney MTB site whilst googling for places to ride.

I enjoy downhill and cross country riding, even though I haven't had a chance to do much before winter set in (yes I'm a wuss when it comes to cold! :p). I'm hanging out for summer because I'm keen to find the downhill/cross country tracks around my area -Windsor/Glossodia/Yarramundi, even Penrith and the mountains.

Other things about me, I'm a musician (guitarist) and I work for a musical instrument store in Windsor doing repairs/setups and sales. My musical flavour of the moment is rockabilly. Also I'm really into my Japanese import cars and old hot rods. I own an 8th gen VR4 Galant, absolutely love it!

Looking forward to going for a casual ride with some people here sometime! I have noone to go riding with! :(

Cheers, great site!
-Paul

PS: Forgot to add I have a Giant Trance 2 ('07 I think)

hi everyone.
I'm new to this forum and i'm addicted already! :D

My name's Chris, i ride a specialized rockhopper FSR. Just getting back into riding again after focussing on competition 4wding for a sport.
I'm looking for more tracks to ride near home (Nerang) been around the state forest a little but i'm sure there's loads of single track up there i haven't explored yet. Daisy Hill is a bit far away for a quick saturday morning blast. Can anyone point me in the right direction to the Norco Flow or Whimps tracks, i'd like to suss them out, i know they are around Nerang somewhere.

Eventually I want to lean towards more urban / dirt jump stuff and get a new ride soon as the cross country - technical stuff is getting a bit old. A city run
in Brisbane on a friday sounds awesome though.;)

anyways 'nuff about me.
see you on the trails:cool:

Hi everbody,i use to ride a bit on the north coast of NSW when i had a norco bigfoot.Mate of mine has a specialised pitch, had a ride of it and on downhill stuff it felt so much better than a hard tail.So now im saving up for a downhill bike of my own,im thinking of spending around 2000 and as a result of this not being a lot of cash ill probably get a second hand bike.

This site rocks! I love all the info one can find here........plus all the little tips and hints people post up.

Am fairly new to the MTB scene...........but have been bitten by the bug big time! Just a shame finding the spare time to do it is the hardest part about it.

Another noob. I'm originally from Zimbabwe but moved to Aus in 2000. Used to do quite a bit of riding in Zim but have never ridden much here. I've been living in Whistler Canada for the past 2.5 years and fell in love with it again.
Brought back a big ol' Kona 'Freight train' (Stab Supreme) that is awesome for going downhill but not much else so looking at enjoying that for a while before switching to a more all-round ride... Suggestions are welcome

Hi all - used to be into riding a fair bit, but laziness got the better of me, and then eventually drifted into road riding a bit. But I think with nicer weather around the corner I'll hopefully get back into some light trail riding around the Adelaide Hills. It's really a crime to not get into the sport when there's some many great tracks so close to home. (I guess it's like living in Hawaii and not knowing how to surf! :D)

G'day my name is Blair,
I'm currently in East Timor with the army. So much potential for riding here its crazy, often day dream (nothing else to do here except beach, gym, dvds :D) of going rogue and living in the hills and pay the locals to build, maintain tracks and run shuttles for me all day haha.
Anyway back in Aus soon. Live in coogee so bit of a mission to go riding but usually hit it up down the gong way.
Cheers, Blair

Gday all, I'm Dave, 38yrs and have been MTBing for the past couple of years, though mostly socially for fitness - no races yet. Live in Campbelltown (SW Sydney). My local track is Kentlyn (I do 90% XC, 10% mild DH) and I usually do Wed night rides (bloody D.L savings!). Have done Appin track 2-3 times but it's not my favourite. Also did Bulli on the w-end - excellent track!:p
I own an 08' XTC2 and a '08 Trance X1. I hope to have the nads to do proper DH one day, but I fear that I fear too much (started too late in life!

Cheers!!;)

Hey Dave ... never too late to start mate.
I have just gotten my 35 year old mate into DH - no mountain bike experience.
My wife - 30 - only recently started, and I'm 35 and picking up speed now.
Give it a go.
Get to Buller or Thredbo and hire a bike when the snow melts, you'll get the taste for it!

Hey matt, welcome to farkin.net
To gain trading access you need a certain amount of posts that are constructive, and abide by farkins rules like all of your posts should. So look around, and find some threads you could give feedback in, or let somebody know how nice their bike is in the PYR section.
Then go here -> http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=4932 and apply for trading access.

Hi I'm Black_Project

Use to jump BMX and XC Mountain bike a few years ago. Dont have time while I'm at uni to play organised team sports so I'm getting back into MTB. Mainly freeride, but a little downhill too. Just picked myself up a sweet 04/05 Scott High Octane and am ready to get into it.

I live in southern Sydney near the National Park and am currently trying to find some good local FR & DH spots.

G'day I'm scott from Newcastle.

I got into DH last year in whistler, and I think it's the most insane sport I've ever tried. Now that i'm back home none of my mates are into riding and i dont really know many trails around here, which kind of sucks. And I have this Norco Atomik sitting around doing nothing.....
So if any one wants to hit up some trails around newy, let me know!

Hi!

I'm based in Sydney and looking to get more involved in mountain biking (trails, bits of technical - nothing too hardcore at this stage). I did a guided tour while up in Cairns on holiday and loved it - so i'm looking to grab a bike and track down some riding spots around Sydney..

Cheers!

Hi
Im from northern NSW as well but a late starter at this sport.Im 42 bit am having a ball on the local forest roads and fire trails. Im losing weight and getting great heart exercise. All I can say to all you young riders is keep it up. to avoid diabetes and heart troubles later. Dont stop when you start driving otherwise you may suffer when you get older.
(Sorry didnt mean to get on soap box)
Have fun.

Im new to Farkin as I''ve just recently got computer access and come online.

Planning on doing some DH next year when the season starts. To me Mountain biking is the ultimate experience for my mind body and soul, I love every aspect of riding, its the ultimate sport as you all know.
