Extra Info: Just getting my first set of crank Bros. mallets. Anyone know if these are any good to use without cleats too? I'm changing from shimano 545's.

If your mallets are the original model, do you have the larger end plates?

That will make it easier to use without cleats. But I wouldn't say it would be good to do it all the time. The wings stick up in the middle of your shoe.

You'd be better off with new cleats rather than old ones.
