As some of you might know that I posted a month or two back saying that my school camp is coming up which consist of years 9 and 10 together. So I elected the Advanced Bike Ride which was based at the bottom of Mt. Buller. It went from Sunday 18th ‘till Friday 23rd. There were 23 of us and the camp was taken by Warren (owner of BikeNow in South Melbourne) and a few people from his crew.
The riding was quite intense with a few spills and thrill. Nick (Mountain Man) copped the end of his handle bar to the chest and didn’t ride on the Thursday. Angus (Suicidal Tendencies) and I managed very well while beating through some of the single tracks together. We explored some of the Hawqua Valley high trails with some great downhill. Some of the uphills were very challanging, one was a 4km up hill 4WD track which was very steep and consisted of rocks and sharp objects. One of the single tracks called the “River Trial” consisted of 13 river crossings, which were knee depth. There was a sweet downhill 4WD track which had water bars on them and jumping then at high speeds were w00t!
Some of you might know where we camped, as you pass the pay station at Buller, just before you start going uphill, there is a camp park to the right just after a small lake. The single track “Klingsporn” finishes at the camp site. If you come down Klingsporn where you enter a wider track look to the left and you’ll see a single track head that way. We made it in the afternoons after rides. It’s pretty mad, is has a 2ft high drop, a small jump to flat then you can either turn right and drop down this steep bit, hit a berm then go over a log jump or keep going and come to this awesome 6m north shore bridge, which crossed a small valley like dugout.
It was a pretty tiring week and by the end of the week everyone was buggered.
