Yep, why not.
Or you could get CB Quattro pedals for the roadie if you want specific road pedals with the float that you are used to.

check forums.roadbikereview.com this is not even slightly strange, loads of roadie types use mtb pedals on their road bikes

I run SPDs on my Roadie. Seems to make sense. MTB shoes are much more comfortable esp if you need to walk more than 2m. Also means that you do not have to have 2 different pairs of shoes and all your shoes are interchangeable.
Makes things easier in every respect

Your parking your bike too far from the barista if you need to walk more than 2 metres in road shoes;)
On a more serious note, my road shoes are much more comfortable than my MTB shoes (mainly due to the shims needed to fix a leg length issue) and I would much rather ride my road shoes on the road - having said that plenty of people ride MTB shoes on the road with no problems.

Yer thanks for all info. The reason i asked was the guy at my LBS said it was not a good idea, any way i went for a 50km ride in to Newcastle to day no problem.

he prob told you that because its a lot easier to clip a pedal on the road in a corner with mtb pedals than it is with road pedals

If your doing big days in the saddle road shoes are a must. The cleat is smaller on an mtb pedal and can create hotspots also more power is delivered to the pedals on a road cleat/pedal.

I found this to be the case. I changed to some 105 pedals and it made a big difference. Much more comfortable and they feel more efficient. I don't usually plan to walk far in the shoes and i don't find them that bad to walk in anyhow.:)
