Aye, aye? I'll keep this short as it's actually Plow King's baby - he's doing the interviews but we've had a little bit of trouble with access. Anyway here's the latest- POSM
Tristan 23 #44
1/ Who are you? (Your name, age, job ect.
Tristan Peter Ambrose Cardew. (Drug-induced choice?)
18.
Skate shop rat cos Bike Addiction never called me back.
I also like photography a bit.
2/ What influenced you to become a member of farkin.net?
Farkin.com was over-18s only.
3/ Which genre’ of mountain biking do you enjoy the most?
The street-going kind. I’ve also dabbled in downhill, dirt jumping, park-riding, and even cross-country when I once dated a dude.
4/ How would you describe the riding scene around Sydney?
Dynamic. When I bought my first bike; a pimp, second-hand Giant-STP, downhill and trail-riding was what I did. Then one sunny afternoon I stumbled across Red Hill with a couple of mates, and dirt jumping was the new thing. And eventually when I learned the city was in riding-distance I became a street-only punk. Since then I’ve become friends with more than a few clowns in the aforementioned categories, mainly due to the fact I was welcomed with open arms. It’s great to see the dedication people have to their respective genre’s, and Sydney seems to have the industry pretty well condensed into one city – the reason I’ve continued to ride, and never get bored.

5/ You have proven to the farkin community that you are an avid and skilled photographer, was there a photo/photographer that influenced you into taking up photography as a hobby/profession?
Avid and skilled? You’re about as correct as the white-Australia policy.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say primarily Chris Benny. His shots always had a large influence on mine, especially in the developmental stages of my photographic “career” (even though mine look nothing like his…), but since getting deeper into the art I’d also have to say Harookz, Sterling Lawrence, Fraser Briton, and Sven Martin for MTB, David Nightingale’s landscapes, Dave Hill and Brendan O’Shea for portraiture, and Jill Greenberg because she’s made kids cry (that sick b*tch!).
6/ What photographic equipment do you usually take when you go for a shoot?
Nikon D300 (and Nikon D70 if I’m feeling risqué) digital SLR, four lenses ranging from 10.5mm to 85mm, two speedlights, two tripods, poverty wizards and a pack mule.
7/ You’re heading overseas soon to explore Europe, What are your plans?
Basically I’m leaving for the sunny shores of London in 3 days, arriving to the loving arms of my girlfriend, who will spend the next 12 days listening to me whine about how expensive everything is. She then bails to America, while I spend the next 4 months living off half a shoe-string, traveling to as many blonde-laden countries as possible, shooting a couple of mountain bike races along the way and generally just having a good time. Highlights will include Oktoberfest in Munich, Schladming World Champs in Austria in Septmber, an 18-day Contiki tour, and a one month stopover in Whistler, Canada, on the way home. Lowlights include the fact Leitch is coming for half the trip.
8/ What are you taking to Europe, what is going to into your suitcase.
Clothes?
9/ I’ve heard that a number of farkin members are going abroad with you, will this in turn effect your blood alcohol level?
Most likely, but I’d say it’ll be my blood pressure level that’ll cop the most…

10/ Do you plan to continue riding when you get back from Europe? Will you continue to ride street or are you interested in the other disciplines of mountain biking?
Yes, yes, and yes. I’ve already planned the street rig I’ll build when I get back, and I’m hoping to add to the stable a downhiller at some point. I’m moving to Darlinghurst (about 15 seconds walk from Kings Cross, and about 35 from the city center) when I get back, meaning a brakeless fixie or steel, singlespeed roadie will be mandatory…
11/ What is the most ironic thing you’ve ever heard or seen?
This e-personality I have on msn, called Spleak. Basically a computer program designed for bored 13 year old girls on a Wednesday night:
Tristan...(L) says: (10:53:39 PM)
You silly bitch
Spleak - says: (10:53:40 PM)
Are you using that as an adjective? A verb? A noun? Of course, if your vocabulary is THAT limited, you probably don't know the difference between the three. Can't you think of something more creative to say?
Tristan...(L) says: (10:53:52 PM)
Tell me something ironic
Spleak - says: (10:53:52 PM)
Hmm... I just don't get what you're trying to say right now
12/ If you had the opportunity to slap anyone in the world across the face with a big ass salmon, who would it be?
An animal-rights activist.
13/ You did very well in the farkin video competition, do you plan on entering a video next year and are you considering branching out into video photography as well as still photography?
I would, but I don’t want to ruin Olly’s chances in the industry…
More seriously though; I’d love to. I really love making films, and have had plans in my head for years about making various short films, sports films and porn films. It’s one of those “when I get time” things, really…

14/ What advice would you give to any farkin members that are considering taking up photography as a career or hobby?
Spend more time shooting and getting educated than money on gear and you’ll be successful. Learn the fundamentals, namely composition, and you’ll be well on your way. It’s fun and challenging, and your learning never ceases, but most of all just enjoy doing what you’re doing, like anything. No secrets there.
15/ Tell us a joke.
What did the cannibal do after he dumped his girlfriend?
Wiped his arse.
16/ Have you got an online gallery which displays your work?
If you’re bored and on a Mac, check out my website. If you’re on a PC, you don’t qualify.
www.tristancardew.com
Annddd I’m spent. Thanks for your time.
And on behalf of all the farkers I Hope you and all the people traveling with you have a safe and enjoyable trip.
