Hi All,

You can call me CJ.

I'm 20 and trying to get back into trail/easy DH riding. I have my eye on a New Specialized XC (dual) and was wondering what you guys thought. Is their anything else out their for around $1,500 that can take a bit of punishment, I also want to use it a comuter.

But first I need to sell my 2002 Aprilia RS125 with 22,000kms. Asking $4,600 o.n.o. Will be in bike point in the next few days.

Down hill and commuting, thats a tough one . I have a kona coiler, its a pretty solid bike, sort of all mountain though. I commute on it now and then and its pretty tough . Look for something with lockout on the forks and rear , that might help.

I have done some comuting on a STP and didn't have any issues cause i only need to comute 10km's each way to work and just something to do a bit of cross country, small jump (real beginner stuff)

I'm looking at: 2007 Specialized FSR XC $1499.95 from NRG.

A mate of mine has one and he said it's pretty good cause you can lock the rear out and even if you don't your pedaling force doesn't get soaked up by the rear suspension.

If you guys can suggest some alternitives it would be awesome.

Cheers, CJ

Purely for the downhill aspect I'd look for something with a bit more travel up front or slacker head angle. But you did say easy DH, so perhaps you're looking towards an "All Mountain" bike?
If your budget allows my recommendation would be to look into the 5"+ travel category - in a few months perhaps a Giant Trance X / Reign may be on sale to make way for new models.

I have no doubt that a FSR XC would be a great commuter / XC bike, but personally I probably wouldn't like it for much DH. And depending on where you most regularly ride I'm sure others who also ride in your area would be able to tell you better than me if it's suited for your local terrain - it could well be ample bike for what you want.

If you're chasing bargains keep an eye out on www.thebikeshedmortdale.com.au as they generally have good prices.

Guess it's your first dually? Make sure you test ride at least a couple of different ones.

Yeah it will be my first dually. And yeah I'm sort of looking for an all rounder but I'm going to test ride a few before i decide
