Hey guys

(im new to this whole farkin thing )

I am interested in buying a new or lightly used cross country hardtail mountain bike for around $2300 (not much more). I like the scott scale 35 the commencal supernormal and flame. I can get each of these bikes around this price (the flame is second hand 6months old).

Just wondering about any suggestions or offers about a bike for me, you guys might have.

Cheers

I am not currently doing any racing but i have two mountain triathalon (bike, kyak, run) races around september, where i am just doing the bike.
Next year i intend to be racing regularly at HMBA. At the moment i live to far away from any club to race much at all and also a little thing called the HSC keeps me busy.

The scale has awsome spec but i was thinking its maybe a bit heavy at 11.2kg (im pretty sure thats the weight).

I was reviewed in MBA and got a 9 so it must be pretty good.

Have you heard of the Giant XTC???
It is a great bike for Cross Country and it comes around $2000.
I'll attach a Competition version of it.
Cheers, Jongy

i like giant bikes (they are great value for money) but there not a bling as a scott scale or commencal flame.Only if i could get my hands on an XTC alliance for the right price?
I don't want a bike with lesser spec then the majority being XT or X9 (or higher) and not really heavier then 11kg. should be around $2300 price tag, if second hand not very many km's done.

I have found out i cant get the scale. They only have large size left (im a medium). It has been really hard to find a bike which suits, on a budget.

keep the replies coming :)
thanks

To answer cris81's question: yes it has to be a hartail :)

reasons: for a lesser price i will get much better componentry :D and also a hardtail will always be lighter :D.

cheers

thanks heaps for the replies

whats the spec of the merida and how old?

I'm looking for something very similar to you ilike.bikes, although not sure if I want hardtail or dual yet. Apart from the componentry/weight issues are there any other big issues to consider in the debate?

Will be interested to hear what you get and what you think of it.

Well, I was in this situation a year ago. Having been a novice so I tried to save money and build my own bike. I know second hand bikes or components is not for everyone but it has been a fantastic experience. 12months later I have 3 bikes all hardtails. I have stuck to hardtails because I am a weight weenie and like things light without sacrificing too much on the other stuff. Plus it suits my type of riding - XC.

Anyhow I have a frame that would suit you if you interested ..its just a tad big for me but then I am only 170cm. I have a Orbea Alma frame size M. Its a world cup winning frame @ 1200grams. I have FOX fork and seatpost. I can get you a new XT group set. Everything else you have to find. could easily build a XC weapon that is going to be much better than anything new your Scott 35 etc....

gday mate

yeah i checked them out a while a go and they apparently only have larges left and they told me for my height (175cm) it would be too big.

.... is that right?
