Oakie doakiee. Sorry for the lateness of this thread. We've had some issues getting things started, But better late than never. Most of you should have seen Angus around the forums before, now its time to meet him. MTF # 45. AngoXC

1/ Who are you?
I be Angus.
18
Study Environmental Science @ Uni
Work @ ‘The North Face’, Melbourne

2/ What influenced you to become a member of farkin.net?
Peer pressure. Few fellow riders in my street were members and encouraged me to join. Needless to say, I was initially some what sceptical of the title…

3/ Which genre of mountain biking do you enjoy the most?
All Mountain with is merely a term for ‘hard arsed’ XCers. Or maybe poor DHers?

4/ Where do you live and how is the riding scene?
Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. It goes off here. Couple of nearby tracks etc to play on but the real attraction is dirt jumping. Councilly owned, but maintained by the locals (Ozz, Lew and Mids to name a few-awesome work fellas!), Croydon Hills Jumps attract a bit of attention from all over really since its one of the few jump sites in the area to have a melways reference. Sure the restrictions imposed by the councils suck and maybe the close proximity to CH primary school means that the fella’s work is often damaged by school kiddies, but on the whole, local riders are very lucky to have such a place I reckon.

You won't find lyrca here.

5/ What bike/s do you ride?
Currently ride a Giant NRS and a Giant Yukon. Both are in various states of disrepair.

6/ How would you describe your riding style?
Lacking some what.

7/ You've made your mark on farkin as being one of the 'tech guru's'. Is there any reason for maintaining this vast amount of knowledge or is it something you just picked up from years of riding and the experiences.
Dunno really. It guess what it really comes down to is a desire to know ‘more’. As self absorbed as that sounds, I’m kinda like that with most things I do. Most of my more serious possessions have been modified or dismantled/reassembled in some way, be it my bike, my camera, my hiking stove or the lock on my car door. I always like to know how things work and can never really settle for stuff ‘as is’.
In essence, most of the tripe I come out with is just what I have picked up from here, from bike shops or just people I randomly meet in the city who have particularly sweet looking rides.

8/ Whats the highest speed you've gotten to, in any vehicle you have piloted, and what vehicle did you do it in?
Two Wheels? Probably low 70’s…not much of a speed demon…
Four Wheels? 138km/h in a Police Pajero racing down the Mt St Gwinear access track. They had a digital read out on the dash. Went hiking up there with some friends and the CV went in the 4by, hence, we were stuck on the mountain.
Probably been faster in the Skyline but we wont go there.
No wheels? My shit eyesight shot my Airforce dreams down in flames BUT in a controlled demonstration with my flying instructor, we would have got the creaky old Cessna almost to its max flight speed of just on 190km/h. Too bad the Air Speed indicator stoped some what before that (and was in knots).

…not that I like to brag or anything!

9/ The worst decision you ever made?
Failing to tell the Police that kid was my niece.

Angus after sacrafising 2 lone Alley cats to the gods.

10/ What is the most ironic thing you’ve ever heard?
When someone buys a backpack at work and asks for a bag? I dunno, best I could come up with at this hour.

11/ Where is your favorite place to ride?
Mt Beauty and the sorroundings. Actually, just burning around the streets of Melbourne CBD is a blast.

12/ What was the single best riding experience you have had?
Back in the days when scouts were cool and had big knives, lit fires and hunted bears, we used to have an annual ride around Sandown Raceway. The scouts would sleep in the pits, and in pairs, accumulate laps around the race track on their bikes throughout the night to the following afternoon. ‘Forumula Bike’ was scrapped because of funding/insurance, which was a real shame but it was magic to stand in the pits, look left and see a sea of white headlights, turn and see a mass of red flashing tail lights in the other direction. Needles to say, hooning around Sandown on a pushy is something else!

13/ Is there anywhere in the world you would like to visit to ride your mountain bike?
NZ and Whistler, but I think the temptation would be more for skiing in those two locations.

Wanna ride?

14/ Do you have any other hobbies apart from mountain biking?
As above. Skiing. In the off change I have an opportunity to go skiing, I telemark. Well at least try. I realised recently that my technique needs a bit of work since I picked up the ‘skills’ off my mates old man. Because I only go skiing with them, I wouldn’t know otherwise! Alas, this year, I will make it a point to get it right! Let it snow baby!!! Like all the cool kids, Im a bit of a photographer, but most of the more serious shots are taken with a film SLR. The camera, a 70’s Nikon FT-3 which belonged to my mother, has an exposure meter both in the viewfinder as well as outside, especially handy for myspace shots! Alas, my slow-assed laptop lacks computing power to actually complete a decent scan so the Kodak moments remain in the photoalbum. Apart from that, Im an avid Connect4 fanatic…in both classic and electronic format.

15/ What is your favourite tv show?
My myspace says ‘Whatevers kickin’ on ABC kids’ so Ill have to side with that.

Cheers!

Nice read! Also nice to see another fan of film on these boards, although I am still very much in the learning phase.

As for NZ, go for the riding & the skiing. I have never been skiing but have ridden in a few places in the South Island and it is so freakin' good.
