Hey dude,
I used to race DH up in Canadia. But switched to cross country after a few too many injuries. My biggest tip to you would be to take 'er easy. I started racing at about 15, and I was probably a bit inexperienced (I'm not sure on your experience though).
Young categories can be super competitive, even in the lowest category, and the speed is nuts. Go to a race and walk the course, watch other people ride it, maybe come back after that and try riding it, taking your time on the trail. That way the pressure is off and you can see how you stand up to everyone else. Try things safely and keep away from injury and you'll steadily improve. but if you do hurt yourself, keep off your bike for the recommended time. Sometimes you'll get away with not getting hurt, but eventually you'll wish you had fully recovered before jumping back on.
I once went into a race 3 weeks after dislocating my shoulder, and it popped out about 30 seconds down the course, when I was pulling up off a tiny little drop. It was probably the most depressing thing, since it took me an extra 3 months to recover, and I ended up needing surgery.
But saying that, you always have to remember to never give up, but just do it wisely.
you have many years ahead of you, don't rush to be in the top spot.

for specific racing tips. watch the pros in person: Their body position; techniques, and eye focus. take what you can from them, and try it on more mellow stuff to learn the techniques properly.

good luck and may your two wheel addiction begin,
