Another question.
If I'm going to buy say a $3 000 range xc dual mtb, but I'm a poor uni student, what should be my realistic cash offer to the store I buy from? 2.5k? 2.7k?
thanks

I would say most shops would offer 10-15% off.
However I would not buy a used bike instead (near new) you will get a topshelf dually for your budget - a bike that would rrp $5k

I say .... enquire about new old stock.
I got a $4500 bike for $3000 because it wasn't the current years bike.
Definitely worth a try.

I got a $4300 bike for $3400 as they needed to clear stock (08 model).
I'd suggest picking a bike, finding the stores that sell them and seeing if anyone's got offers on them or coming up. Most stores would rather not sell a bike than give too big a discount - unless it's end of season and the new bikes are coming in (from about now to October).
