Awsome! They're really good brakes but not as good as HOPE, lots of power especially with 8 inch rotors and pretty easy to set up. You can get 8 inch rotors anywhere now. Just get them when you buy the brake.
if you get XT disc with the stainless braided cable try and swap them for the deore black covered kevlar hydro cable, the stainless cables buldge out when your braking making them feel mushy sometimes, like there air in the system.

I am (just gotta order them) getting them with the kevlar hose - and also importing them from the US ($uper cheap) and none of the online stores stock 8" XT rotors - so i was wondering was this the case in aus - or is it as lindsay said, you can find them anywhere?
hope, hayes and shimano all use the same thinkness in there rotors, so you should be able to pick one of these in an 8 inch somewhere, what you might have trouble with is getting a shimano 8 inch caliper adaptor (yours will be sent with the 6 inch) so it might be worth locking into that before ordering (should be too hard though)
p.s magura gustavs are the only ones which don't use the same thinkness, they are a little bit thicker

Ive found i can get the DH package of the XT discs from cambriabike.com - but theres a pretty significant price difference between the M755 and M755 DH.
M755: http://www.cambriabike.com/brakes/images/shim_xt_disc.jpg
http://www.cambriabike.com/brakes/2000_shim_xt_disc.htm
$119 US each
DH: http://www.cambriabike.com/brakes/images/shimano_br_m755_dh_xt_dic_brakes.jpg
http://www.cambriabike.com/brakes/shimano_br-m755_dh_xt_disc_brake.htm
$199 US each
I dont believe theres any difference between the 2 apart from rotor size....so im guessing shimano's DH rotors are way over-priced? :?
The standard XT package was going to set me back a mere $400AUD or a bit over, but the 8" setup is going to cost close to $700AUD!
Anyone got any other ideas or options?
Btw, i havent yet ruled out the option of using Hayes or Hope 8" rotors - but then the problem would lie in finding the shimano adaptor  :? in which the full 8" (out of my price range :P ) setup would solve....

Hayes 8 inch rotors are fine to use. Although by the time you've bought rotors and adapters it'd nearly cost you as much as the more expensive shimano discs.

What fork do you use ? Shimano don't, as far as i know, make an 8" Marz adapter, only an adpater for Boxxers. Though you can get one through GRC i believe.
I actaully have a friend who signed up here today that has a brand new set(never even mounted to a bike) for sale that i've made an 8" marz adapter for. Not sure what he wants for them but i'll get him to post em in the buy&sell.
I'm very happy with mine.

if ur running anythin other than boxxers or dorados, u can get ur 8 inch rotors and adaptors from www.dhdirect.com.au for about $90 (includes rotor and adaptor)
XT's are my favourite brake, from the shape of the lever to the feel and the power, very very nice.

Xt hydros are indeed very good brakes.great modulation and braking power at the same time if bleed properly.simple looking makes it look so neat.i had a pair of them and been using it for over 2 yrs now.and its still working fine on my tankass without any bleeding ever since i 1st got it.and as compared to many other "same performance" brakes,xt cost slightly lesser.try them.
yup i love em, i got mine through innercitycycles.com.au when they first came out and i got them for a grand, fitted, custom front adapter for my old super t's and still had them bled once so much power

you will find that the discs and calipers and levers themselves are actually designed (and made) by an italian company that is called Grimeca, and they (Grimeca) also designed (and made?) Sram discs...some anyway
see the originals at http://www.grimeca.com/eng/freni/idraulici_s_8.htm#
I don't know a whole lot about the background of this Grimeca/Shimano relationship... I've been told that Shimano just license the design, I've also been told that Grimeca make them for Shimano.
:?:
Either way, I can tell you, the Shimano XT's are a noticeable level of quality above the Grimeca/XSIV/SRAM variants of these brakes. About the only thing bad about them is the S word on the parts, but that's just me being a brandwhore!

I've got the last of the quad pot XT's on my Da Bomb (see my gallery) and they are sweet, but i have had problems, which is oil on the pads.
I was told by my lbs guru that the pots are set into the caliper with a bit of brake fluid, so if this gets out during transit, there goes ur pads!! But other than that, it's a sweet and cheaper alternative to Hope M4's....*hint* *hint* buy Hope Mono M4's, now 2 pads instead of four and are sexy stoppers, but a tad expensive.....ok a lot expensive!!
i found my m4s to be a lot better than my xts,bit more fiddling around wth the hopes but the power and modulation were much better .

Shorty ... Your Guru aint such a Guru
"I was told by my lbs guru that the pots are set into the caliper with a bit of brake fluid, so if this gets out during transit, there goes ur pads!"
Local Bull Shit artist ???
They use mineral oil for a start not a Dot fluids ...
And they are assembled dry in the factory...
Have set up, bled, fitted, maintained shiteloads of these brakes since they came out. have had them on many a test bike too. Have owned a set for the last 2 years as well. Zero problems, most reliable brake around ...
Nuff said.
