View Full Version : Tires
What tyres are the go for a rigid dirtjump bike? I'm building one up and have no idea what to put on it!
Ah, probably 2.1 for a pure DJ bike. Dunno about brand tho, but keep them skinny. kalem/01_250/andrew will be able to help out
Maxxis Hookworms perhaps? I'd get something with a biggish bag (2.3-2.5) and run the front one fairly soft... when my HT was a rigid, it slaughtered my wrists.
i run 26 x 2.5 front (maxxis high roller)
24 x 2.1 rear (kmart)
but my bike is front squishy not ridgid

if not them maybe a duro 2.6, which isnt realy a 2.6 at all.. just the right size.

i think i know the ones you're talking about, they are about 2.3 if that, they are good, but they are way too heavy for a tire that size... For pure DJ's i'd wanna keep them pretty small, tho' with the rigid, some fat up front would help.
how about a High roller 2.35" front and High roller semi-slick 2.35" rear? Maxxis tires measure wakko so a 2.3 is more 2.1/2.2ish, I think if your smooth and your DJ's are smooth they'd be perfect...

i am assuming you have 26" wheels cos these aren't available in 24"

Run a 2.5 maxxis high roller front and a hookworm on the back alomost the same as the pic above but a slicker rear tyre

hookworms are stupid heavy and would be crap in corners and whatnot., kalems suggestion is good, for me personally, id run the single ply semi slick on the rear and a single ply larsen 2.35 on the front.

for DJ, and bmx track riding im running a maxxis high roller on the front, and a ritchey Zmax on the rear (2.1) hooks up really good in the dirt but the zmax sucks for urban riding
but yeah the DMR moto tires are awesome, remindme of my primo dirt monnsters on my bmx!

heh i was thinkin that too... They have got a pretty good selection though, name another company that has such a varied and quality range...
IMO the fat Ritchey tyres look good for all sorts of riding, they appear that they'd roll rather well, plus bite when needed, I'm yet to try a pair though.

What have you got against Ritchey Gus? They make some good tyres (there is more to riding than DH and hucking).

i think everyone should understand the context of gus' posts by now...
I run a 2.5 dual ply Highroller front and a 2.35 Larsen TT single ply rear on my DMR, both tubeless.
Seems to do the trick for me, the Larsen TT in particular never stops impressing me with how well it hooks up.

i do belive this is in the DJ section... i doubt that a shitty XC tyre will do the job..
do you like them? thats enough for me to not like them..
DMR Moto's i think are 24" only, sweet tire though.... go with thye Semi-Slick high rollers front and back, they are real fast rollers and still give plenty of grip on the berms.

New 2.35 maxxis ignitor on the front and dynomite on the rear if you do some dual or 4x action and not to much commuting you can also consider the new Brian Lopes Bling Bling super tacky

Oh! thems fighting words! Seriously though, the motovader's are a fatter tyre with a low tread profile that I reckon would work really well for DJs, they should roll really well.
