Ok, I am in the midst of getting some knee/shin pads. Just wondering what you wear and what your opinions of them are. I think I have got my list down to three candidates: Dainese Freestyle (calf coverarge), Dainese Pro Air (webbing behind the knee and the strap below calf) or the Fox Raptors (robocop) but, I am still open to all your sujestions so help me out please! :)

have a look at the hinged axo guard.
thats what i got, and once i shortened the strap a little, the feel pretty good.
they are a little bulkier than the fox, and only have the one hinge section, but you can get them for around $80-100.

The dianese are good, comfy and protect well, I've got some older pro-air's and all the straps have broken off, but i make em work.. I've had them since '99... I think they have some better material now and hold together better...

For some reason my legs are prone to getting ripped up, so I wear CTR (neoprene wrap around). They are really great for total (well, almost) shin/knee protection but they do heat you up a lot more than the Dainese. They aren't quite as good for pedalling either, but a bit of fitness work will cure that.

The shin & knee version will set you back around $110 depending on the store you visit.

Im loving my 661 race knee/shins, offer good protection, dont move around, and the only problems ive had with wearing them all day is that my legs get cold in the car on the way home after taking them off.

I'm using Dianese Freestyles at present, I've had no real problems with slipping although I do tend to re-tighten everything each run. They can be pretty hot and sweaty if the weathers warm (compared to a Pro-Air style pad).

i've got armadillo knee/shins. They work really well, kind of like a second skin- they dont' get in the way on or off the bike...

ive never tried anything else for riding though so...

armadillos dont give heaps of bruise protection but you don't end up with ripped legs either...

And yeah- I do tend to fall heaps! :D

i've also got an old set of azonic neoprene guards. you can still find them round.
full wrap around, hard cap for knee and shin.
don't move at all.
i ended up pulling the hard plastic off them and using them for 2 seasons of paintball as sliders for bunkering. really good bruise protection and with the plastic on, good rock pro as well.

yeah i use the azonic ones they go from top of knee right down to my shoes. they dont slide down because they are sitting on my shoe. but yeah they are good saved me MANY times. but i would of rather baught the dainese ones. BUY THE DAINESE they are the best for quality and what not.

BUY THE DAINESE they are the best for quality and what not. the fox robocop things are wayyy to small and you would still smashhhh your shins. dont buy anything that dont give out at least 3/4 shin protection or esle you will regret it!!!!!

I use either a k-mart TSG copy with the caps removed or a set of Azonic knee shins(that only cover half your shin).

If you're considering the 911s, I'd advise you to go with the 661 comp or race pads. I haven't tried the race pads, but they appear to be a less bulky version of the comp pad. I know though that the comps are way more secure than the 911 pads, and better value (not suprising, 911s are fox after all....). As for the Raptor's, they seem like a good thing, but they are a moto guard and as such they don't offer full shin coverage, that's my biggest gripe with them.

i have used ctrs they will stop anything although when you have a big stack on your knees the knee part tends to slide down your leg resulting in stiches in your knees. If you have bigger quads than the average person they will slide down and straps might not reach.

I have some 661 race, some Roach and some Dainese Pro Air.

I almost always use the Dainese Pro Air. I use them with some neoprene knee warmers on to and they never slide!

i got the standard fox shin pads. there doing the job, only thing is you pulling them up all the time.
can i just say that if you dont have body armour that includes the arms u should get the fox extreme elbow guard, i got them and they farkin rock. i sliped of a 8 foot drop when i first started and if it wasn't for them i would have had broken arms.

mmm all this talk of raptors is damn annoying. they are crap, unless you are running clipless. the offer no protection against the most common enemy of mtb bikes....pedals. buy something decent damn it!!!!

ok bazza, gimme some $$ and i will  I'm short so they dont miss much of my shin, a fair bit, but not tonnes like they would on bigger (normal) people

The Dianese look pretty cheap i reckon, that foamy lattice stuff looks wreckable. My legs don't like Azonics or Fox, I love 661 shin/knee ones. I'm wearing them right now they're that comfy hahah
