Hey mate,
Good review, but I am keen to know if you thought they are good value for $180, seems a bit steep to me, they'd wanna be good!

Fixed up the discussion link in the article
good review man .. but like my irish mate joe ... $180 for kicks you will ride in ..
personal I look for on-sale vans with the waffle sole .. but I will certainly check out the orchids .. Ryan runs a pair and he swears by em dont know if they were that expensive though.
But those Duvals look pimp.

Why can't companies make shoes in 15s?????
Thank god for Globe. reasonable shoes, reasonable prices, but at least they come in a generous 15.

Ok, I'll level with you all:
$180 is more than I would usually spend on shoes, but like I mentioned in the article, I did get them through work and managed to pick them up a bit cheaper than retail. I wouldn't be suprised if you find them cheaper than the price I've listed as well.
Having said that though, the Airwalks I had previously cost me $110 and the Orchids have so far been far better than them, and anything else I've ridden in. I can't say that I've owned waffle sole Vans though, so unfortunately I can't make that comprison, if any one out there can, please give us your input, I'd love to hear it.

Hehe, I like how you say you don't want to pay out the arse then mention they are $180 a pop. Anyhoo.
In regards to the wet grip, I had the same problem with my Vans when I first got them and they use the same tread pattern. Essentially when it's new and not worn down, you've got very little surface area contacting the ground (line of contact only) so they tend to be a bit gripless, with more use they'll come good and offer up more grip though.
Cheers.

I picked up a pair of Orchid Van Homans a few months back. I thrash the fuck outta my shoes, everything else i've had starts to fall apart just about straight away, and are fully un-wearable after about 2 months. The Van Homans are still holding together as good as the day i bought em, and i wear them everywhere.... out to the clubs, down the mountain, mall lappin', skatepark, bmx racing... bloody well made shoes, i'm definately getting another pair when i finally kill these ones

No offence mate, but have another look, that's pretty liberal use of "exactly" there.
