shit,
are you rich or something!
NICE rides!
very nice, what exactly is the hardtail? a ruckus?

Very slow progression with the Foes due to funding difficulties. It's gonna be one of those slow project bikes that just hangs on the wall till it's complete.
Me thinks it'll be worth the wait... unfortunantly!

It's actually a GT Zaskar X '00' model. They managed to put an extra 1/2 pound in welds as the design is pretty much the same as the Zaskar LE. Has a taller htube, fatter welds, and a beefier triple triangle to it's XC brother.

when you get the foes together you will have to come hit the old bathurst trails with us. i went from riding the craftworks hardtail down the mountain to riding the M1 down the mountain. what a diffrents lol.
Squidly Didly

I sometimes head out to Old Bathurst Rd on my Gemini, by it's running a Lefty Max, so i'm not that keen on going too big on it. I'll get a pic of the Gemini up some time during the week.
Nice zaskar, I love the black finish!
The XC machine isn't too bad, shame it's a cracknfail, but at least you're riding the same cranks as me. How heavy is it, out of interest?
Squidly Didly
28-07-2003, 09:01 PM
12kg in Aus terminology. Yeah i know it could be lighter, but this way you can put torque down without the flex fest. What you don't see is the MonkeyLite DH bars just cut down for XC.
I bet it'd be a beautiful enduro machine, wouldn't beat you around too much in the saddle.

keep your posts relevant to the original topic. This thread is about Squid's bikes, not about someone he occasionally rides with.
if you still feel the need to ask him that (extremely over-used, and mostly pointless) question, send him a private message.
as for the thinking behind your post, either get over your sad self, quit bitching, and just ride your bike - or go back to watching Home and Away.
Squidlos... about that titanium unicycle... should we leave it in its raw brushed Ti finish, ball-burnish it, or carbon wrap it? or get Stan to paint it with sand?
can't make me mind up.
Squidly Didly

I quite like the finish on Huey's new Cannondale Single Speed :P I dunno. BB will do. On another note, sorry for the delay on getting a pic of my Gemini. I really need a camera :!:
Hah, interesting that this thread got bumped today. At work this arvo, for shits and giggles the other bloke worked out how much it'd cost for titanium DT's, and we spent many minutes wondering why people would bother paying such a price for spokes http://erve.ugbox.net/images/smilies/dunno.gif
So, why did you get them, what are the advantages, and did you pay full price for them, or did you buy them on special?
Squidly Didly
17-08-2003, 11:31 PM
If you spend a shitload of money on bikes, and your shop still charges you full price, somethings wrong.
The DT Titanium spokes I got purely for wank reasons. However i'd never build another wheelset with them. I found them to be very flexy, but shock absorbtion was very good, hence why they ended up on a commuter.
I've also previously owned Mavic Xmax, Shimano XTR, and Spinergy Xyclone wheelsets, but nothing beats a standard 32 spoke wheel of your choice.
If I were to build more wheels, I'd either use a standard double butted spoke, or if ya wanna get wanky, go the Sapim CX-Ray's. They are that fraction heavier than Ti spokes, but about 10 times stiffer. Last time my frames hanger broke, it sent the mech into the wheel. The CX-ray's were so strong and sharp, that they cut my Dura-Ace mech apart. The spoke is around the $5-$6 a pop, but they are well worth it. Just don't put your finger into the wheel.
Even at cost price they're ridiculously expensive
I was right when I guessed they'd have a bit of flex and shock absorbtion, which isn't always a bad thing.
Oh well, you have very fine taste in bikes, so if you can afford spending that much on wheels, why not!

I think you need some time out Squid from the shop...dear oh dear, I didn't think you took your stuff THAT seriously.

Squidlos, what you think of Stan's carbon plate idea?
Dicky
24-08-2003, 02:39 PM
sorry, gettin ahead of myself there. the Fly comes with an integrated MRP chainguide, and our boss wants to make custom plates for it - either full carbon fibre, or machine some aluminium plates and carbon wrap them, so they look like they're made of carbon.
what you lot think?

It's up high now to avoid unsightly stains.
Hey Squidly, if you have some spare $, put a 5th Element on the Gemini and be amazed by a 7 inch travel bike that weighs 30lb and sprints like a hardtail. Will only fit in the 150mm hole though as the shock is longer than standard and you need a small rubber guard on the seat tube on hard topout.
The 150 setting is about 170 travel with the 5th though. I will put a photo in my gallery of mine soon.

1. The Fly is taken (muhuhaha)
2. Gothic rotors aren't fully compatible with M4 calipers. They'll work but not 100% due to only 80% contact on the pads. Mini calipers recommended
3. Chik stickers are a great 'substitute', but not enough!
