I'm using a 36. I used to have a 38 with 26. It gave a very wide range with a 11-34t cogset. Now that I have a 36, I think I can get away with just one ring as it climbs very well and the only time I spin out is on the road.

i like 34 to 38, at least this way you can still make it up some hills but you never have too many problems spinning out on the downhills, just check to make sure what your chain device can go down to, some have issues running a too small chainring - chains jump off and get cought and that kinda thing.

Im not even sure what im running, 42 or 48 probably, but i def. know i never ever reach it to more than 6th unless im DHing, and even then sometimes i dont. i would change it but its too much effort taking apart the MRP. i guess itll stay because the 1st gear is perfect for all around.

I'm running a 44 tooth but i'm actually thinking about dropping the 44 and sitting with the double chainring and adding a blackspire bashguard.

I run a Blackspire 38 tooth chain ring with a Shimano Dura-Ace road 12-15 tooth cassette and Dura-Ace rear mech. I think this is perfect for all round riding, high enough to go up, and low enough to go fast.

4 speed DA cassette? i think 12-25 is more realistic

44:18 thats pretty high. no wonder ur bikes not wheeliablable.
is it right for jumping and shit? with a 38 or 40 u might be able to wheelie.

loose unit, do u find that ur 38tooth is too small or big for dirtjumping? i reakon 36 would be pretty perfect for djing

Thanx for that correction, 12-25 is correct, just a typo there

Before getting the 38 i was worried that it would be to small for DJ and general riding, but it is perfect. I have tried to use a 24 before and found it far to low dont know about a 36. If i was running a freeride bike and riding up hill i would run a 34-11 with a chain guide and 38t, lets face it the granny ring on most bikes is only a bail out gear. I find it the perfect spread of gears on everthing apart from DH.
