For all you guys who are doing crazy drops (and specifically setting out to do them), how fast do you run your rebound (forks and if you're on a dualllie, shock)? I tend to run mine pretty quick cos I use the bike for DHing more than drops n stuff, but it feels a bit sketchy on some drops. Do you reckon it's better to have the rebound set slower for drops, or doesn't it make much difference?

Depends on whether you want to keep adjusting your bike all the time. If you do then Yes set it up slower for big drops, with more compression damping as well. This is not the go for racing though as the bumps are significantly smaller and faster. Plush soft suspension for racing is a sure way to bottom out and flip when you do a huck.
The bigger the drop the more it makes a difference.

If i do a huck, i tend to set my fork special for that huck. I usually run it a fairly slow rebound, then again the tranny depends also.

drops = sloooooooow
no repeting bumps so there no need, just the one BIG hit

yea dude its pritty much what evry one has said, you are only taking one big hit, so just set it as a quick compression and a slooooowww rebound and thatl be hell smooth, but if your on a hardtail like me, id set up the front nice and hard depending on your drop size and put the rebound around medum not (not to fast but not to slow) cuz you want your front to absorb the bubmps of the trannie so you dont pitch but you dont want it to soft that youll bottom out :wink:, you should be able to figure out what rebound youll need your forks for a drop by just seting the rebound and doing some smaller lines, i like it a little fastish but not to fast, about just over middle rebound setting for smaller drops and a bit under the midium setting for bigger shit.

ok well i'm no hucker by any means but i throw my self off the odd edge, most of the big drop i hit are stair gaps, this means landing on stairs of a limited number and if you rebound is set too slow you get axed if your forks are still rebounding when the stairs you just landed on change to level ground, so even "hucking" i guess you have to compromise between comfort and safey. but this just leads to the big debate about what is suspension really designed for, keeping your wheels planted to the ground for maximum traction (race) or for sucking up big drops (freeride) and i really don't want to get into that right here right now. the machine rages on.

What you guys are talking about or need is dual circuit damping, also know as speed sensitive valving.

"so just set it as a quick compression and a slooooowww rebound and thatl be hell smooth,"

Not really a quick compression will not slow the force of the landing and you will bottom out harshly.

personally i dont care how my forks are set up.. just concentrate on the drop... i wouldnt use the compression to stop your suspension from bottoming, that will place all the force on the seals and will fubar your shockers.. (front or back) if its too soft, get a harder spring.. and suspension is made to bottom out.. it is unavoidable in mose cases.

i've never had a fork that i could adjust the rebound on, i just use my skillz yo :wink: , i like my forks pretty firm and slowish. Yeah Socket i say just wind up the rebound a bit, and it'll be nice and smooth, i wouldnt think you would wanna fu<k with the compression tho, it should be alright if it's good for racing already.

yeh i was messing with the settings of my rear shock on a small (maybe 3-4 foot) drop, and my friend was like " ramp the compression up so it doesnt bottom out instantly" so i did and was rewarded by oil all over my frame and legs.. :D

btw.. that shock is in the classified section, needs new seals obviously :)

Some shocks simply don't deserve a compression adjuster. :wink:
