'GUMBALL 3000' ANNOUNCES ITS ASSAULT ON THE DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN SERIES!

Gumball 3000, the annual star-studded 3000-mile car rally, today announces its first ‘official' assault into the action sports world, launching a mountainbike team to enter the UK, European and World Mountainbike Downhill Championships!

Since 1999 the ‘Gumball 3000' Rally has earned a reputation as being “the most glamorous and notorious event in the world” (Esquire magazine), famed for its exploits and celebrity participation, attracting stars from Hollywood, music and the action sports worlds to drive and party in its annual 3000 mile adventure.

‘Picture Pamela Anderson navigating her Porsche through the streets of London, with Johnny Knoxville coming up her rear in his 70s Cadillac, and Snoop Dogg in hot pursuit in his pimped out low-rider and you start to get the picture, Gumball 3000 is a real life wacky races!'

Having gained global recognition on MTV'sJackass, and with TV coverage in over 180 countries, from ESPN to the Extreme Sports Channel, the ‘Gumball 3000' brand is extending its wings to support all things creative, fast, adrenalin filled, and ground breaking. Downhill mountainbike racing fitting these criteria nicely!

Spearheaded by British Gumball 3000 creator, Maximillion Cooper, this venture is not quite as leftfield as the mountainbike industry may imagine considering Maximillion's background as a once competitive BMX freestyler, skateboarder, and mountainbike rider, which explains why the glamorous multi-million dollar rally is always filled with action sports legends; including skateboard legends Tony Hawk, Bam Margera (Viva La Bam) and Bucky Lasek, Freestyle MX riders Travis Pastrana and Carey Hart, Snowboarding legends Tara Dakides and Tina Basich, and BMX King of Dirt Cory Nastazio amongst others!

“With Gumballs increasing profile and notorious image, it's my ambition to add a touch of rock ‘n' roll to the action sports worlds that I grew up with and am still so passionate about. Having soul searched for sponsorship myself for so many years, it's now a privilege for me to be able to support talented riders, and enable them to enjoy the sports they live and breathe to the highest level.” Maximillion

The DH team will be managed by Warren Stainer and Gary Moore; both of whom have been on the MTB scene since the wheel was invented (Max having raced BMX against Gary in the early 80s).

“We've put together a talented team of up-and-coming UK riders - Luke Marshall, Rob Weaver, Jamie Faulkner and Danny Harper. Luke and Rob are both extremely rapid experts with big ambitions and the talent to back it up. (Check out their section in the new Unscene DVD); Jamie will be a first year Elite, and his results over the last 12 months indicate great things to come in the premier class. Danny needs no introduction having achieved an 8th overall in Elite at the NPS this year, including a highlight 2nd at the Fort William round. With the right backup these guys could go far and we're going to help them get there.

The bikes will be a Gumball worthy blend of P.D.C. Solaris frames equipped Öhlins Rear Shocks with support and tuning from Stendec, Sun Ringlé wheels, Hayes Brakes, Michelin tyres, E13 Components and T.H.E. accessories, to name just those who have come onboard prior to this official announcement, and to add a little Gumball style the team will be wearing the latest apparel from ‘Gumball 3000's clothing label, complete with ‘G3K' Team jerseys, race pants, Von Zipper shades and Alpine Stars gloves!

We'll concentrate on the European World Cups and UK domestic downhill series, whilst also supporting the grass roots Ride-Central series and taking in any interesting events we can fit in between them; and we'll be hooking up with Ride-Central.com to bring you up to date news and views throughout the year. So come and taste the Gumball spirit at the races, cheer our riders on, and drool over our unusual pit vehicles in the shape of Lamborghini's, Ferrari's and other exotic machinery. (standard issue team vehicles, of course!)

It's going to be a busy year….and we're gonna fly down those hills like there's no tomorrow. Just watch!!!”

Gumball 3000 Editor Notes: 2006 Gumball 3000 Rally - Sunday 30 th April – Sunday 7 th May

The first Gumball 3000 took place in 1999, when Gumball creator Maximillion Cooper invited 50 of his friends to take part in a 3000 mile Rally around Europe. Eight years later, Gumball has consistently hit the headlines as “Cool Britannia's” most unique addition to pop culture and has been described by Vanity Fair as “the most rock ‘n' roll car rally ever staged”. This year, following Phileas Fogg's quest to traverse the world in 80 days back in 1872, the 8th annual ‘Gumball 3000' Rally is putting on its most ambitious event ever, with a 3000-mile route around the world, starting in London and finishing just 8 days later in Los Angeles!

The start flag will drop in Central London on Sunday 30 th April, when 120 of the most amazing cars, stars and eccentrics will set off on stage one driving a 1000 mile route through Europe, crossing the capital cities of Brussels, Vienna, Budapest, and upon reaching ‘war torn' Belgrade, all cars and drivers will be airlifted in Russian Antanov cargo planes and an Icelandic Air Boeing 757 to Asia for stage 2. After landing on a tropical paradise Island off the coast of Malaysia, the route follows a 1000 mile drive through the beaches and tropical rainforests of Thailand to reach Bangkok for another huge party. The following day the grid will again be airlifted, this time to Salt Lake City, USA, for the final 1000-mile stage through the desert. After the ‘Gumball All-stars' take on the Utah Jazz basketball team, the route will travel via the Bonneville Salt Flats to Las Vegas for a ‘Gumball exclusive' performance from hip hop legend Snoop Dogg at the Hard Rock Hotel, and then onwards to cross the finish line on the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills on Sunday 7 th May, ready to party the night away with Hugh Hefner and his Playmates at the famous Playboy Mansion!

The entry grid is packed full of superstars, supercars and eccentric characters from the worlds of music, film and sport, driving everything from Ferrari Enzo's and Bugatti Veyrons to Rolls Royce Phantoms, and a ‘nitros injected' VW Camper to a humble Ice Cream van. In 2005 over 3 million people took to the streets in 13 countries to watch the Gumball drive through and TV coverage was broadcast in 180 countries. 2006 will be even bigger…! Entrants include Kill Bills Daryl Hannah, Jackass' Johnny Knoxville, Viva La Bam's Bam Margera, ‘King Kong' star Adrien Brody, to superbabes Pamela Anderson, Jodie Kidd, Caprice and Linda Evangelista, alongside skateboard and MX legends Tony Hawk and Carey Hart, and rock stars including Pink , The Happy Mondays Bez, Jamiroquai and evenSnoop Dogg! Come to the start and cheer us off and watch it live on www.gumball3000.com
