Mayors, business leaders, the Queensland Minister for Sport and mountain biking enthusiasts were some of the 140 guests who packed into Brisbane’s exclusive Tattersall’s Club for the official launch of the 2006 Flight Centre Cycle Epic earlier this month.

Amongst the VIPs who attended the lunch on Wednesday 19 April were Flight Centre Limited Managing Director Graham “Skroo” Turner, Minister for Sport, Tom Barton and Hewlett Packard State Manager, Ross West as special guests at a charity Riding the Business Cycle lunch. ?

Peter Creagh, Epic Co-manager said the lunch was a great success and provided the Epic Management team with the opportunity to launch this year’s Epic in style.

“We were delighted with the interest the lunch generated,” said Creagh.

“It gave us an opportunity to acknowledge the long list of people and organisations that have played a key role in the Epic’s success over recent years.

The business lunch also provided an opportunity to recognise the endorsement of the 2006 Flight Centre Epic as the as the official Australian MTB Marathon Championship by the nation's peak mountain biking body, Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) earlier this year.

“The Epic is the first event in Australia to have received this title,” Creagh said.

“It’s a great milestone which reflects highly on the professionalism and appeal of the Epic,” he said.

“It also represents a fantastic opportunity for the nation’s professional mountain bikers.? ? Creagh said funds raised by the lunch will be donated to the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

“Given the feedback we’ll look seriously at making the launch lunch a fixture,’ Creagh said.?

The 2006 Epic will be held on the first weekend of September with entries being capped at 1,500 competitors.
