View Full Version : I spotted this neat drop I wanna do but...

There's a farkin (tm) fence in the runup! The drop is about a 10ft drop by 10ft gap, but from the fence you've only got maybe 20ft to the edge of the drop. The landing isn't real steep but if you were going fast enough to clear the gap, I imagine it'd be pretty nice. I took a pic of it, but being a povvo with no digital camera, you'll have to wait till I get the film developed before I can post it.

Back to the point: anyone got any ideas on how I can circumvent the fence problem? There's a fair bit of runup behind the fence, so I'm thinking maybe if I have a sort of shallow A-frame going over it, I could launch it enough. The fence is a standard farm-style (non-barbed) wire one, about a metre high at the top wire.
My dad has a stepladder that can be unfolded from being like == to being like _ _ _ _ or anywhere in between, I'm half thinking of attaching some wood to that and sitting it over the fence....

The alternative is to cut the fence, but I'd rather not do (but I might if I have to) that as it's on the non-house side of a residential street.

Why not run up along the fence line then turn into the drop? 20ft should be plenty of distance to carve in and get yourself sorted. Wouldn't reccommend cutting fences, makes us all look bad yadda yadda you know what I mean.

Hmm yeah, but there's a few trees and stuff up there too. The drop is in a little alcove cut out of a sort of cliff face, and there's a park bench off to one side, but up the top there isn't much room in any direction really. I'll have to have a better look at it soon. A lot of long grass up there too, I'll have to somehow give that a mow/plough if I want to be able to maintain enough speed. I might also build a little kicker on the lip just to make sure I can make the distance (if I decide to do it, that is!).

Yeah like I said, I don't want to cut the fence.... I wouldn't have such reservations if it was out in the middle of nowhere (as long as it wasn't an IMPORTANT fence, eg keeping farm animals in), but in the city it's not really feasible.

build a gate :)
or like u said build some ns over it that should give u some speed for the gap as u come down the reverse side of it. or build a kicker over it. its kinda hard to think of a way if u never seen so gonna have to wait for the photos

Hmm, that IS a good idea actually. I'd have to tie the current fence off though... but I reckon that might actually work!

you could just cut the wire at the post, then use those bent nail staple things to reattach it once you're done hucking!

haha sweet, whos fence is it anyways?

It's just a council fence I imagine, it must have been there for donkeys' years. I guess what I COULD do is cut the wires, huck, then put a new wire in altogether (between the posts I need anyway). I doubt anyone would care if I did that, it's not a very significant fence... its only real purpose is to stop people going over the edge of the drop (oh wait!). As long as I repaired it, I don't think anyone would mind... anyone think otherwise?

It's near the bike track, on the track AWAY from Burke road (ie heading back towards Heidelberg). Not the area right near Burke Rd.

Coming along Burke Rd from your place, you cross the river then turn right.

that sounds pretty hardcore i have a nice gap/drop happening it sounds a bit smaller than that though. oh yeah if its a crappy little fence then you are probably doing the council a favour it probably used to be there for something a million years ago. just cut it. its for hte good of your mind.but make sure you can 100% get it. i tried a stupid little 4 foot thing but you had to bunny hop something and then bunny hop over a gutter and into the drop. i fucked it and landed myself in hospital. wasnt good. and that was off 4foot without much speed. its always good to weigh things up. your not a chicken if you back out of something you cant do.

NEW GAP SOON!!!
roughly 40 or so foot from lip to landing.. (that was measured about 6 months ago, now the idea has come up again)
over an old access road to a big college in geelong..
maybe in a few weeks..
i think it will be a bit bigger drop than carcass..
