Well, after alot of delays, its time to check out the event details, entry form and a map of directions.
Attached is info that you need to know about the race.
-Pre entry is appreciated by faxing the form to Ventoux Cycles on the number provided. We can't take any money off entrants until rego because we haven't got the facilities to do so this time around. Please pay your entry fee in cash when you register at the event. We understand this is prehistoric but it is the only option we have at the moment.
-The parking for the event has been a bit of a hassle. State Forests of NSW won't allow all the entrants to park on the side of the road heading up the mountain so we have to park the entrants vehicles at the base of the mountain and shuttle everyone up. This has been done before and it has been a bit of a hassle but we will get it right. We will shuttle people up to the rego and finish area as the transport is full and begin shuttles at 9am. Rego is open from 8am so try and get up there by then. Please arrive as early as you can to get things underway. There is a vehicle running all day from the finish area to entrants cars but please take the things up the mountain that you will need. This is the way it has to be, I've tried to have it all my way but they won't permit it. Without State Forests help though we don't have a race on our wicked track. We're doing whatever it takes to stage it.
-A map of directions is attached also. If you follow this map and don't make any dodgey turns you shouldn't have any trouble. When you turn off the Pacific Highway from north or south, you will drive up Bruxner Park Rd. This road is sealed and winds up a hill. When the road flattens out, the forest gets thicker. Stay on this road, don't turn off it! Follow the road through the winding forest until it flattens out and the forest turns into tall trees. You will see a bus shelter on the right hand side before a bridge. Turn left here into Mt Coramba Rd. The dirt road starts here and there is plenty of peoples' homes. These residents have had trouble with downhillers before so please drive slowly (no more than 20km please) and respect their homes. Parking is at the base of the mountain as directed.
-The Plantation Hotel is hosting the after party (please refer earlier post for details)> It is an all age event with great entertainment from Black Phoenix Films, a great dinner menu and a nice bar. Those who get into rego early on Saturday morning will recieve a VIP pass from me to a show that night at the Planto, they are worth $30 and the act is pretty bloody good.
-Coffs Harbour Cycle club is putting on the catering for the event, toilets are catered for, some product tents are on show, great shuttle vehicles will be on hand, plenty of awesome spots for spectating and photos, an unbelievable track and a great after party. It will be a fantastic event and with your co operation we'll make it the best.
Remember, please take the things you need with you when you get shuttled up the first time. There is a mighty track awaiting your riding style.
Some final details may change so please stay tuned. Thanks to our great sponsors listed on the event flyer and the event details.

Dozer. Long time no see mate. I was up at Mt Coramba on Saturday. The new section at the bottom is cool. The last section with the log into the roll down was pretty sketch for someone who hasnt ridden for a while.:)
Few questions regarding the track. Where will the starting gate be, seeing they have the new tower near up the top? What line will you run near the north shore stuff half way down? Let me know if you need a hand with any more work on the track before the race weekend. I'm keen to lend a hand. I might be able to contribute some prizemoney for elite, through my work as well. Cheers, Stuart.

Why howdy pardner! The track will start at the new tower. The top rock garden hasn't got any B lines so we've decided not to use it this time around. The last log / tree thingo will be fixed very soon. We won't be cutting it down, we'll make something over it. Pm me about the prize stuff, you help and support is greatly appreciated. Like I said, PM me and we'll sort out the weekends proceedings champ.

No. The track is closed Thursday and Friday for setting up and final maintenance. If things change, I'll let everyone know.
Monday may be the day for private stuff just look out for people clearing the track after the race.

We have a fair bit of work to do so the easiest way is to stop people riding. You know the roadworks ad on Tv where they say "If you slow down at roadworks, we'll get there quicker". Well, my ad says "If you let me do my work, you'll have a race track!";). Something like that anyway, trust me, the track is worth the wait.

How far is the event parking from the bottom of the track. Can we walk it?

Dozer
17-05-2006, 09:02 AM
As I outlined in an earlier post, parking for the event is done in the form of parking at the base of the mountain. You will have to get your gear up the hill in the early part of proceedings.
What we will do is this: Take your gear up the mountain in your own transport to the finish area before any shuttles start. Rego starts at 8am with shuttles at 9am. Please try and have your gear taken up the mountain by 8am and no later than 9am to reduce congestion at the rego area. Event staff will be on hand as of 7am to help people get around. After you have unloaded your gear please drive your car back down to the car park and wait for the transport to bring you back up. Event staff, first aid and product vehicles are the only ones allowed to park in the finish area for the duration of the weekend, please don't park anywhere except for the car park. That is the rules given to us by State Forests NSW. Please abide by this or we won't have our race.
If you have tents to set up, please see me or even contact me before the event and we'll arrange some spots to put them. We have limited space so please don't bring tents etc that are too big. If the tent area is full, you will have to set up in another spot and may have to carry your own tent to another spot if shuttles have started and the road access is blocked.
Once again, there will be a shuttle vehicle running all day long from the finish area to the car park for your convenience.

It is about 2km and all uphill on the fireroad. You can walk it but there is a constant shuttle all day during shuttled runs. The time before shuttles will have several vehicles running up and down to get the people up there. See my above post for details of other options.

Ummm...i assume you mean at the race? Otherwise I would've said leave it in your garage at home while you aren't riding. This DH event doesn't have a set of lockable lockers. Where you leave your things is your responsibility, bring a bag, a box...I don't know. I hope there won't be any thieving going on because I'll be very upset. "if it isn't yours, don't touch it" is the vital saying.

The track is too techy. Some spots are steep with turns and a few drops etc. The most tech section is the top rock garden which we aren't using because we haven't got B lines set up for this round. The track will get technical the faster you go. Does that make any sense???  You'll get your head around it, the smoother you go means the faster you'll go. But too fast equals pooh in your pants in some sections.

The track is running in really well. We've finalised the lines we're using for the race and I reckon it'll suit everyone. The tough stuff has a B line and the rest is flat out. I must stress an extreme point here people: Don't cut any trees down on the tracks that I've built or any tracks for that matter. I arrived on the mountain today and several people had cut some bloody good sized trees down because it didn't suit their style. This is a big No No in anyones books. Everyone knows I built half of that place and I'll get in big trouble for the trees that are missing. Don't cut trees down, work around them and with them. If I get busted, you blokes are coming down with me. Check with someone first before even thinking about chopping a tree! One particular section of the trail had a nice tree section and someone has cut them out. GRRRRRR!!!!! If you want to vandalise the trail, you'll pay the price. You don't want to know what it is.

On a sadder note, we learned during this week that we've lost a good friend. A local fellow by the name of Paddy Macguire has ridden with us blokes in Coffs Harbour for yonks, he's done a stack of races around Australia, worked in every outback place in the country and put a smile on plenty of faces. Unfortunately he was killed last week while working. He had spent plenty of time riding Mt Coramba with us and always made us think "bugger me mate, slow down! You're making the rest of us look like skirt wearers!". He was very fun to be around. I had some help from some locals today in building a new line so I've decided to name it "The Paddy". Thanks for the memories mate, ride on good buddy.

I posted the trail description in another thread referring to this event but yesterday I changed the middle section. I've edited the original post and here it is cut and pasted.
Seeing as people will ask, here is a fairly lengthy description of the track we will use for the race.
The start area will be on the crest as used in the "01 race. For those that know, the top rock section will not be used (and is closed) because it isn't easy for everyone to do. This section doesn't have any B lines for less experienced riders so we canned the use of it. I'm not building B lines because it will take another year to cut through the lantana. Please don't ride the top rock section. It is dangerous.
The first section of track runs straight down over reasonably smooth single track.
It then turns left into a high speed slippery corner. This then leads into the run up for the 30ft gap jump. The landing is short and slowing down for the next turn after the jump has been fun for some. If you can't clear the jump, you don't want to be short, ride around it if you doubt it.This jump has a B line which some people can ride faster than hitting the jump.
The next section goes into tight, steep single track with scattered roots and rocks. There is a pallet drop (5ft) which can be rolled, there is a B line around this obstacle which is easy but slower. The landing turns right straight away and rolls you into a double made up of small logs. This can be rolled fast or jumped. The next left hander is tricky with roots running diagonally across it.
It then runs steeper over a small drop into a bermed right hander, then another log jump into some narrow fast stuff. The next turn is a berm blast right hander which is great to hit fast.
The track then winds over several logs and rocks into a fairly steep chute with only one way through: straight over rocks and small roots. The end of this fast steep section has a 90 degree right hand berm into another lefty. This then rolls (or jumps) over a small rock section and out into the fast bit.
The fast bit has a fairly fast kicker which is good for style points, there is a good fast pedal here into a small kicker which turns left over a crest. This corner over the crest is great, it kicks you in the air while your turning into the lefty and throws you down into a fast rocky descent.
The next turn is a big braking spot which will have some nice braking ruts into by lunchtime Saturday. The next section is an S bend (left right) over some roots and rocks. Then you gas it out of there into another faster left right set of berms. This section mentioned is great fun, use your tyre grip there (trust me ;)).
After these turns there is several lines but only one will be used. For those that know, the line into the north shore will be used with the bermed long left hander. Instead of shooting straight into the NS, we'll keep going left and where this joins onto the old track it loops around in a nice off camber right hander. Then you ride in between two stumps which are really slippery in the wet. A new line has been made here where you can go left and drop off a 3foot log or keep right and roll over the log on the pallet. Either way, you then ride down a steep and rutted embankment about 8ft high. Plenty of people have gone over the bars here so keep off the front brakes.
Now for the fast bit.....
After the steep roll in, you have a short fast pedal into the steep fast sectionl. This section is flat out with three water bars leading into a massive G force left hander which eventually levels out. People have hit  80km  through this turn so be in your biggest gear for the pedal into the table top.
The table top is great. If you get right into it, you can down ramp it easy or even flat land. The down ramp is about 35ft away and very smooth. A good speed jump will get you over or a massive air will get you there too. This jump is a table top so rolling it is no worries.
The next jump to follow is also a hit it fast or hit it slow bit. You can boost over it or pump through it into another small kicker over a few rocks. Watch the very close trees around you though when you in the air!
The next section is a small bus top type rock garden. It is a quick right and left into a really narrow and fast sometimes even off camber part. Some people have jumped over this section and failed to rejoin the track, a few laughs.
The trail nears the shuttle road at this point with a nice stump jump. This can be rolled slowly with minimal air or hit fast and land on the big G out flat at the bottom. You can use the B line and not hit the stump jump also. Straight after you land is another kicker which is a flat landing, this then runs next to the road with a couple of little stumps to roll off.
The trail then runs onto the road (behind the bunting of course). Biggest gear here people and pedal hard up the fire road and over the crest. There is a small rest period here for those that want it. The next turn is a fairly quick lefty over a small kicker.
In the past, the trail has not turned left here but kept going down and includes the rock garden and step down. This section is no longer part of the Mt Coramba trail and is not to be ridden. The land owners are very angry at people going through there so please never use it. Use the trail I've described here or we won't ever be allowed to even ride here. Please be responsible and have some respect for the land owners and the reputation of downhillers.
Back to the action. The next section is fast and flowing. I built this trail a year ago and some have called it the best part of the track. There is a fast right hander which pushes you out into a slippery clay cross over with an old 4WD track. When you cross this road, it tightens up and there is a left hand turn over a 2ft log. Then you go through a series of right and left hand turns with amazing grip. The next steep chute drops you off another 2ft log into a very slippery and off camber left hander. This turn can be hit on the inside line, the middle or the very outer edge, either way, you will almost come off because it ends with a big G out that wants to punch you off your bike.
The trail then goes into my newest addition with more of the above mentioned flowy stuff. It is really tight and has a nice drop which depending on how fast you hit it, ranges from 4ft to 8ft. Then there is a long left hander which gradually travels uphill. A little bit of pedaling here will get you over the crest and into the downhill again.
The bush in this part isn't as thick as the rest and will be dusty. There is a sweet right hander with a massive berm, then a similar left with plenty of drift . You then ride over some uneven water ruts and down into the finish straight. There is a double (for those that want to double it) with a small kicker and down ramp. Then the trail has a 8ft vertical slope that drops into a low section with another little kicker. The trail ends here when you pedal out and onto the fire road and onto victory.
I believe this trail has basically everything. I guarantee you will want to come back again and ride here because it is just so much fun. The race is on the long weekend in June so we're expecting plenty of smiling faces by the end of it. Following the race on Sunday will be the after party, don't miss that one!

I know you can't ride the track friday, but can you walk it just to scope it out?

That sounds awsome man, the earlier the better. More time looking at it on friday means more practice runs on saturday.

Dozer, what are the times you are expecting for the run, sounds like a 4 min course?

Any chance of you posting some pics of the various sections to go with the written bit, i've seen the couple of pics of the jumps already. Just want to get a visual of the some of the berms and the terrain in general.

Thanks

I reckon a 4 four run will be a cracker in practise, some guys will get into the 3's......maybe.

http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=51255&page=4 This is the other thread for the event and post #37 has a few pics. I'll get some done this weekend and post them up of a few other things.

Some pics are of the new addition.
"last" is the final strecth of track. It has a couple of little kickers and is really quite fast. Then you have to slow right down and roll off the 10ft incline.
"newdrop" is also new, it drops from the pallet onto a gradient that turns straight into a left hander. Depending on where you land, the drop could be up to 7ft. The B line is under construction as you can see by the lonely pallet sitting there.
"bermhit is in between the other two photos. There is a quick pedal down and wham! you can really hit this berm hard. Straight after it is a left hander with a good drift style to it.
Like I said, I'll get some more shots on the weekend and stick them up.

Is there anybody coming to the race that is planning on making a sweet movie of the race weekend for us all to enjoy on Farkin? If someone makes a cracker movie and posts it up I'll chuck some goodies there way......:D

Bribery....the RTA keeps telling me its against the law.

dozer your my hero, iv been waiting years to ride this track again. i cant wait. thanx sooo much for all the work you hav out into it and also to the people who hav helped you out. you shouldnt hav to buy a single drink at the afterparty, its the least the riders can do for you mate. ill be there for sure, even if i hav to hitch-hike.

1 question tho, do you know where i could find any pictures or results from the last race that was held at coffs, it was in august a few years back if that helps at all. thanx again mate!!

There isn't too much info around on results and photos. The track we use now is a lot different to the old one. It has the same start and middle sections (albeit with a lot of variations) but the end is entirely different so the times will be nothing similar to previous events.

We can gladly confirm that the roadworks will be completed next week, the permits are signed and we're all set for a great event. Further preperation will be done this weekend to get the track in top shape and it will be ridden in by the locals to ensure it is perfect.
16 days and counting till kick off......

or is the whole track a few pedals here and there

Let go of the brakes and feel yourself getting pulled down the mountain. That's what makes this track so rad. It's one of the fastest tracks around, especially when you consider how tech it is.

That is one of the best descriptions of our track ever. It is spot on. You are very capable of getting the entire way down the mountain without one pedal.....almost. One of the new sections has a slight rise which will get your chain nice and stretched (unless you pin the section before it and don't need any extra speed).

I think you will find it's not over just because you say it is. It will be over when you've proven to everyone that you have outlived your old reputation and built a new one. Incidently, this takes a bit longer than it took to build your first one. Getting cracked in the head could be a sign that public opinion is still on the fence. I'm not trying to be a hack on you mate, it's just the way things work.

Weather forecast down this way is "damp" for most of this week.

Hey Dozer,
Are we expecting "moist conditions" on the weekend?
Weather forecast down this way is "damp" for most of this week.

The latest report says we'll have a few showers this week and mainly dry for the weekend. If it rains this week and no rain on the weekend, it will be perfect. If it is dry all week and rains on the weekend, we are going to be really pissed off. The track will be fine but racing in the wet is.......crap. The trail was ridden by about 20 people yesty and it is getting fairly dry and dusty. Some of the newer sections are run in and some corners are very loose. They will bed in okay and that is the intention but there is a lot of surface dirt. Some nice rain during the week would be superb. When the track is wet in the morning and a dry day it is perfect, I'm crossing my fingers for overnight rain for a few days this week.
Don't forget to bring some warm clothes because the mornings are a little bit chilly, I know it is a tropical town but it still gets cold.

Just so you guys and gals don't need to go all the way back to the start, I thought I'd give a brief run down again.
-Directions are supplied on the map in the first post of this thread. When you are on the Pacific Highway near the Bruxner Park turn off you will see big red letters and arrows saying "DH". Follow these signs up the road and follow the next few smaller signs saying DH MTB with arrows on them.
-When you turn onto Mt Coramba Rd please drive slowly and quietly. Don't hang out of the car yelling "woohoo.....!!! We're here now! Yeah !" because there is peoples homes around this spot. Please be quiet, drive slowly (25km is fast enough) and be responsible. Downhill riders are on show this weekend and we want you people to give a positive image to new people to the sport. Your co operation is greatly appreciated. Instead of turning left up Taylors Creek road like it used to be, please follow the signs. Taylors Creek Road is not an access point to the track.
-When driving up the road you'll see a sign saying CAR PARK. This is......the car park. You are allowed to drive up to the finish / rego / organiser area and drop all of your gear off. Please then drive (......slowly) back down to the car park and jump on the shuttle bus. Then come up and do your rego and preperation then. This way it saves congestion etc etc. Thanks again.
-Rego will be in a tent with REGO signs on it. I'll be there doing stuff from 6.30am both days so come and say G'day. I want to meet all of the farkin.net people.
-Payment for the event is cash only. We haven't managed to set up the facilities to accept anything else this time around so please, cash only.
-I will have tickets to Sneaky Sound System who are playing at The Plantation Hotel on the Saturday night. I have limited numbers, the tickets are free so be quick and be nice. I also have another handful of cool stuff to hand out to the early birds.....
-The track runs very close to the line up (hopefully we won't have much of one!) for shuttles so while you are waiting for transport you can walk into the nearest spot and have a look.
-For those that raced here a few years back, you need to know that the track is different. It has the same start and middle sections but it doesn't include the old fire road and step down. The trail we are racing on is the Mt Coramba track that is in use. The old trail is now private property and must not be entered. Please abide by these rules or we'll get kicked out.
-The bulk of this event (like most of the events) is done by volunteers. I myself have put a lot of work into making sure that the bits and pieces I'm taking care of are spot on. Some things may not go exactly to plan and hey...shit happens. We are trying our best to get a smile on your face. Please be kind and appreciate the efforts of our volunteer drivers, marshals, rego people, caterers etc etc. They are giving up their time to help you guys and gals have a good time in our beautiful town. We hope you have a cracker of a time. Being the oppurtunist that I am, I'll take this oppurtunity to say Thank You to all of the people who have done anything they could to get this event going. You know who you are and you know it is worth it. Keep up the good work. A special thanks goes out to the local boys who have helped get the track in the fine form it is, well done guys.
-The after party will be at The Plantation Hotel in town after Sunday's racing. All ages are welcome before 9pm, under 18's are not allowed in the gaming area. We have our own section of the building with Black Phoenix Films displaying some cool movies on the big screen. Most people will have dinner, drink beer (or whatever...) and have agood time. The bar is great, the dinner menu is fantastic and the atmosphere will be electric.;)
I'm sure I'll think of something else before I leave to set the tack up soon. PM me or phone me anytime with questions. I'll be checking PM's of a night so you may not get answered during the day. My mobile is 0402 078 541 if anyone needs a question answered.
Please drive safely when you are travelling to Coffs Harbour and enjoy your stay. Above all else, ride the track like it needs to be ridden......no brakes, flat out and having a big 'ol smile on your face.:D
