we have put many things inside the jumps
including :
Logs
Sticks
branches
bricks
we have used everything we can think off.
but we are having a problem in making the jumps big .
we cant seem to make the jumps that big.
we pile up logs until they just start going to steep .
does anyone have any idea's ???

Clay is a good thing to use when building jumps as it sticks together really well, easy to smooth and it goes rock hard within days. The only bad thing is it cracks but it is still really strong. Also it is easy to shape.Hope this helps;)

yes exactly what i was trying to say and if you use clay it just sticks together and doesn't fall away.

Give the kid a break he has STP in his name. But yeh i use clay to build my jumps and ive found that if everyday you water and smooth the cracks away, then eventually it doesnt crack anymore.

Ok mate, because none of these doosh bags will actually answer your question here it is:
To make you jumps bigger, dig out in front of them and use that dirt to build them up. By digging the fronts out (bombpitting) you make the face of the jump heigher.
With the dirt you dig out from infront of the jumps you will then put it ontop, making them higher. The problem then rises that the dirt will fall away from the lip. To fix this build the sides and back of the jump up so that the dirt ontop stays there.
Wider jumps are better, and thicker they are the more solid they become. Try using water with your dirt, so dig in or after it has rained, as this helps the soil stick together.
In the thread i have attatched below, you can see that most of the jumps have been dug out between them, the soil is then used to make the heigher and wider.

The best thing to do mate is experiment and see what works best for you. hope this helps.

we r having similar problems as well out newy and we found that yu need to build it wide both ways so that the clay and/or mud or whateva doesnt fall away:rolleyes: ...
but if yu keep digging though you will realize that it is going somewhere...
;) all yu need to do is not stop digging;)
keep it up and with all this advice every ones giving yu... :D youl have mint trail's of your own to post:D
 p.s i seen pics of yo jumps on here n how big r they at the moment dude:confused:

Try not to put shit in your jumps, just keep them to dirt or clay, and make sure you compact them well.
Water the jump down abit befor you compact it, not too much, just so its not dry.

stick a crate or something under it all. that should boost the size up a fair bit. then put some clay nd dirt over the top to make it safer.

I would not recommend burying anything except rocks+ logs make good lips.
To stop the dirt falling it is best to pack it in layers w the back of a shovel + if it is dry or crumbly you need to wet it esp if it has lots of clay.
If it is very sandy you can use old carpet over it + or use logs at the sides to get the jump high enough.
If there isnt much dirt I have found the quickest + neatest is to use a wooden ramp for the take off + place it near a down slope for the landing + use dirt to build up the down slope if you want it steeper.
Just remember that the steeper the take off then the steeper the landing should be.
The gap is determined by the guts + the speed .
Most jumps need to be reshaped after it has rained.
Hope that isnt too much information.

AS rowdyflat said the less thing buryed in your jumps the better, it migh be quick to build them in the first place but after 100 or so runs over them they will start to crack, move and turn to shit, just use dirt, it is the best option, and pack it down as hard as you can, and if its possible water them.
hope it helps

word of advise- try to stay away from the logs n sticks, after a while they rot and you have to re-do them heaps. well thats wat we found with ours. rocks, dirt, water, compacting. and it doesnt take a Genius to make big jumps - more dirt= bigger jumps.:)

Up where I am making my jumps there was heaps of mounds of dirt and all i had to do was dig and shape it a bit then i put dirt/water mix over top and compacted then let it set. They crack a bit but have really held up. What sort of big do you want. big height or big length or big everything?

thats all good, but arent sticks n branches the same? anyway, i got an idea, instead of making ur own jumps, just run down to ur local toys-r-us n buy those fully-sic freestyle ramps u see for $20. dude those things are friggen chunk. just pile them up and wen u hitem up pump out ur hydaulics so u do a one-hander backflip. yeah i did that once.:D

we arent all lucky enough to have an infinite supply of dirt.(before i hear any smart arse comments), i mean in some places theres either too much rock (took me 2hours to build a tiny berm one day from the rock). Or problems with erosion mean that dirt can only be sourced from one small area.

Use the rock to build the berm...
It was on an off camber slope heading back up the hill. We had rock support but needed dirt to finish the berm.

dirt is also better because if you get better then u can move down ramps and up ramps much easier than if you have to dig through a ton of rocks and logs and generaly the deeper u go the less rocks their are we found
