View Full Version : Australian riders dominate world rankings in MTB and BMX

Australian downhill mountain bike riders Mick Hannah, 23, Sam Hill, 21, and Nathan Rennine, 25, have shut out the rest of the world to hold the top three places in the world rankings.

The latesest International Cycling Union (UCI) MTB rankings released this week have Hannah in number one on 434 points ahead of second ranked Hill with 360 points and Rennie third on 310 points.

Hannah's top rank comes after the Queenslander's downhill win in the opening World Cup round in Vigo, Spain earlier this month. Hill, from Western Australia, was sixth in Vigo but picked up points when he claimed the Oceania Downhill Title in March. Gold Coast rider Rennie won the Australian Title in Thredbo in January and was second behind Hannah in the Spanish World Cup.

Chris Kovarik, 28, and Jared Graves, 24, are sitting tenth and eleventh respectively on the downhill rankings with 19 year old Amiel Cavalier ranked seventeenth. Graves is also currently in number four position on the MTB 4X world rankings.

The good early season performances by our riders have put Australia on top of the men's downhill nation rankings with 1104 points, 471 points clear of second ranked New Zealand and 529 points ahead of Great Britain which is sitting third.

In the women's competition Hannah's sister Tracey, 18, is ranked third in the world in the downhill and seventh in 4X. Fellow Australian Renee Junga, 20, is eighth on the 4X rankings.

The latest BMX world rankings, released two weeks ago, haveAustralians Kamakazi, 25, and Wade Bootes, 32, ranked one and two in the elite men's classification with 26 year old Luke Madill fifth and 25 year old Jamie Gray ninth. In the elite women's rankings four Australians made the top 12 with Renee Junga ranked number two, Tanya Bailey and Krystal Cranefield tied for fourth and 2005 Junior World Champion, Nicole Callisto, 12th in the world.
