ok, here is what has happened.
me and a few mates built a small downhill track (1min run) off of a rather popular walking hill.
anyway, the council has come along the hill and are now making the multiple walking tracks branching from the road, 'councilised' ie: concrete steps.
i know my track was not realy supposed to be there, but i mean they are essentialy using the work we did on that track to make thier walkway.
so .... what do you think i should do?
considering that i could get in shit if i tell them i built it illegaly.
maybe just move on??? confront them telling them that it was built by us???
tell them an ananoymous person made it and its not a walking path??

Lol, that is pretty funny really. get them to stabilize the surface and build a berm or two while they're at it.

When they build the path just put dirt over it. you can thank them for clearing it out even more.

Looks like you got 2 choices.

1) prentend nothing happened and move one

2)Apporach council and explain that particular bit of track has been used by local mountain bikers and ask if it is possible to have it officially regconised as a MTB trail.

Be reasonable about it and come up with good reasons why a MTB trail in that spot would be a good thing.

If council own the land and already have approvals for extra walking tracks adding in a MTB trail shouldn't be that hard.

Now be prepared for the usual arguements
a)Liability. This shouldn't be any different to a waling track
b) User conflict. A myth perpetuated by walkers. If there is 1 MTB trail and numerous walking trails it should be less of a problem than it already is.
c)Increased errosion. Another myth. properly constructed trails suffer less erosion from MTBers than walkers.

So get your facts together (search here and MTBAs site) have your agruments ready, but present them in a reasonable manner. Point out other areas where land managera re working with MTB community ie Glennrock, Royal NP...

Either way you are likely to loose your trail but at least option 2 gives you a chance.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer, but I don't think you've got much hope due to the high usage of the area by walkers. And remember it is illegal. Trying to do anything about it would probably just be a hinderance in what the mtb organisation is trying to do in Townsville and get more official mtb tracks the right way.
My suggestion, just forget about it and wait for the DH track at Mount Stewart to come on line. Perhaps find out from the Rockwheelers when the next meet up is to help finish it off since you seem keen on trail building.

But I see where you're coming from - must hate the council for putting your hard work to their benefit, kind of like rubbing it into your face.

I guess you must live pretty close to there? Mount Louisa is another area with heaps of trails, mainly frequented by dirt bike riders though.

i say go and "borrow" their equiptment and build another trail some where else. thats what i did when they tryed to "fix our vandalism". The trucks where sitting there with all the tools in the back so we just grabed them and put them in a wheelybin and rode off. 150 bucks worth of tool for free. We are currently planning to make a Shore/DH run in the bush out the back of my mates house. befor we start we are trying to get council permition so they wont come through and remove our hard work

So you stole the council's tools and are requesting to build a north shore track on council land with their stolen tools? You're an idiot.

thats is fairly funny but i would be pretty pissed but i reckon this calls for a bit of a path gap over your one that they wrecked.

but you could use the stairs to you advantage by putting a bit of a down ramp on them so you could have some stair gaps on your trail.

I would just like to point out that apparently there are now concrete steps at the start of this DH track. There is also a shit load of grass that has been wippersnipped away... I wonder.

So your track is still in useable condition?

If not then you could pretend to be an environmentalist and tell them they've destroyed a very essential rock wallaby migration path and that it's likely to interfere with their mating habits plus increase the possibility that they will now venture onto the road and risk getting hit by cars:D

We all know what trails are out there and in alot of places I imagine they're not exactly legal - although I guess it depends on the area wether it's unofficially accepted and hence allowed to remain there untill some form of development starts. I was wondering what happens if you are caught riding on a trail such as yours by the council or whatever authority is against that sort of thing - can they actually charge you or do they just go & rip it up? In your case from my point of view you're not breaking the law riding on your trail because the signs say no bikes on the walking trail, but you probably broke the law when you built it. If they turn your trail into a walking track I guess that will put it off limits:mad:

If you decide to build another just don't get caught;)

I don't know how old you are. I'm writing this assuming you're 15 - 18.

Those tools weren't free. They mean that money set aside for other projects will not be available.
-If those projects effect you, you've screwed yourselves
-If one of the council people stumbles across this info, you've seriously stuffed up the chance of MTB access in that council area.
-At the end of the day you're a common thief, no better than the farkheads who steal people's bikes.

I suggest you grow up, take some responsibility for your actions and some responsibility for your role in society. If you don't, then it's likely that one day, you'll find yourself getting a solid kick up the arse.

Personally, if I were to stumble upon you, I'd hand your info in to the cops and the council in an instant. I don't like waiting for karma, when I could f^#$ you over instead.

yeh champ if you did do that with the tools i wouldnt go announcing your triumph over farkin. it makes all of us look like morons. and there was really no need for you to take them, its easy to find basic tools you need to build track in your garage!

if you talk to them then they will probably try and bust ya. you should just cover it with sticks and whatever you can find to make life harder for them. just as pay back.
