Well well. Here are the results good buddies.
From my point of view, the race weekend had some lows and some highs. The highs massively outweighed the lows. The dust on Saturday morning was a bit of a bummer but that all changed.....the rain came and washed us out. The two wheel drive bus's and cars stopped transit because they were sliding all over the place but the four wheel drives managed to get a lot of people up for some muddy runs. A lot of people left because it was becoming too muddy but some keen people kept doing push runs and they loved the mud! I was asked a few times on Saturday night if the race was on....I said yes but deep down I knew if it kept raining that it would be off. I left the pub at about 12.30pm and all I could see was stars. I woke up and the sun was blazing and I knew we were set for a good day.
The parking was our down point. We will make sure that a better plan for parking is ready for next time. We had limited room and that got on people's nerves but all in all, it worked out okay. Runs were underway and people were saying that the track was perfect. That put a big smile on my face.
Well done to the winners and place getters and well done to everyone that showed up. It was great to meet everyone and have a great weekend with all of you.
I have to say Thank You to alot of people. If I miss you in this list, PM me and I'll fix it.

Only two improvements that I could ask for from the weekend: A fast train-link from Sydney and another three days of riding!

Even the beer was cheap, such a good weekend.

PS, oh yeah and unfit, sorry about the lumps mate. I got a few too :o

masters 1+2 30-40 years old
Masters 3+4 40-50
master 5+ 50+

M1 is 30 - 35yrs young
M2 is 35 - 40
M3 is 40 - 45
M4 is 45 - 50
M5 is 50 - 55 and
M6 is 55+ as long as the heart beats...
And i think each catagory is your age as at DEC or JAN each year.
They combine 1&2 and 3&4 and 5&6 together to bolster the numbers in each group...
And remember we might not ride as fast as the young ones but we sure drink more......................swings n roundabouts i say...............

OK boys and girls, this is straight from MTBA handbook and not something conjured from memory or a fairytale passed down through generations.

Official age classifications for the old fuckers are as follows :-
note - state classifications in brackets (-)

Veterans (masters 1&2)
MTBA classification is "Veterans" M1/2 30-39 yo
M1 30-34 yo
M2 35-39 yo

Masters (masters 3&4)
MTBA classification is "Masters" M3/4 40-49 yo
M3 40-44 yo
M4 45-49 yo

Super Masters (masters 5+)
MTBA classification is "Super Masters" 50+ yo
M5 50+ yo

I don't know where or when the 3 "official" classes got broken down into
M1-M2-M3-M4-M5&6 ETC.

Was there anyone else taking pictures on the mountain, there is not one of me on that guys site :(

Also, just a suggestion race preparation wise, i was kind of miffed that i had to line up for 20 minutes to register on Saturday morning when i had already faxed my registration off 2 weeks before.

It would be nice for there to be an express line for people who bothered to pre-register, it would encourage more people to do it and help with your race organisation (catering, shuttle vehilces etc), and would mean less of a line up.

Jut a minor thing, but why bother pre-registering if you still line up? If you want to encourage people to pre-register you need to make it worth their while i reckon.

We had a plan in place where pre rego's were going to be taken care of but the local club (in their wise ways) didn't supply any people....at all. Your advice is all going into my machine and it will be better next time, guaranteed. We were running on limited man power and I can offer no excuse for the line ups that we had apart from the lack of experience and lack of people. We know what to do next time around. Pre rego will be bonza in future mate.:D

Despite the weather Coffs Harbour lived up to the hype. Would like to congratulate the organisers. I don't believe that anyone has mentioned the prize money which was welcome suprise to all the place getters. Hope Coffs gets another run at it next year.

Me too mate, bigger and better with an even more gruelling finish to the end of the run! I've recently purchased some really big plastic sheets to keep the rain off the shuttle road but still rain on the track. I'll take your post as a pre entry then? ;)

Doz, did I hear talk of extending the track all the way down the bottom where the parking was? This would, IMO, make it the best track in Australia. I currently like Thredbo because it is long and fast. Your track is already better in the setup, soil, drops and jumps dept. If you could make it even longer, it would have EVERYTHING! It would also make the whole parking and shuttle situation much easier to handle. I know I'd be happy to come up and pitch in cutting a new section of track if it was feasible!

Johnny, it is my winter / spring weekend work of choice. The terrain after the finish drops straight down into a near cliff face and somehow I have to get back up to the roadway. I'm thinking along the lines of making the very end bit a straight and really fast leg up onto the road side with maybe a monstrous step up to get the thrills. The middle section will be similar to the single track after the table top before you get back onto the uphill fireroad section. It will be a good slog but I know it will make the run incredible. Cross your fingers that it works out alright.:D

I think the track is perfect the way it is.. I wouldnt touch much of it at all..espcially the fast stuff.
If I was gonna change anything it would be the section after the bottom pallet drops... more so maybe bringing it out onto the fireroad and having a sprint open finish (maybe a big step down onto the fireroad or something)
Only my opinion dude... but the track owns.. that being said you could make all the berms and corner 3 times the size so we can go even faster.. haha..

err and dont make it longer.. 3-4 minutes is perfect length.. johnny is just thinking whack from eating too much thai food or something

Attached is a topo map of what the mountain side looks like. It doesn't show the actual DH track but it does show the shuttle road that pretty much runs adjacent to the DH track. If I go ahead and make the new bit meet up at the bottom, it will make the track about 6 minutes I reckon. The terrain isn't as steep as the rest but it is on a hillside. The way I'm planning it is to have not just one track from the top but a track that can be split up into two maybe three runs for local club events. I will do it and it will be a really fast part of the track. I don't think I'll change the current last section because it hurt many legs on their race runs!:p(just like I planned...).

Thx for the help on Masters 123456, I'm M4 (until December) does that mean I get a new Intense?

First photo, Batch2, #129 (I think) - that's riding on the edge.
Sounds like a great event, I better come on down next year!

Absolutely top trip/weekend, don't know where to start - but well done to Dozer plus crew for the work and effort involved to make it happen. Little subtle things like free passes stating 'Round 3 DH MTB party' to the local added a bit of class to the event (shame about the unclassy mob).

Only complaint was to pick on the deadly-silent NSW spectators - liven up, Its a DH race race not a chess tournament!
We (the SA boys) had to hang with the noisy (weirdo) QLDers so as to not get strange looks over horn rimmed glasses when screaming, shouting and woohooing at people (plus occasional Cowbell ringing).

Johnny - good to 'meet' you ;) All I remember was the night was hells good and still quite sensible until some idiot started Sambucca nonsense. After that...fade to black:confused:

Hope to run into you and some of the other crew again sometime - as said, top race, top crew, top weekend.

p.s - we have many after-show pix

Fast, super fast, with some really nice drops and jumps. It's in a beautiful part of bush land, it's not to far from the town (pity the town is so far from everything else!) and there is heaps to do in town. Surely it could become a decent holiday destination for MTBers, it has a good lot of trail riding too doesn't it? Does Coff's Tourism market towards MTBers and/or adventure travel much?

Does Coff's Tourism market towards MTBers and/or adventure travel much?

The local sports unit on the council has seen the sudden influx of tourism $$$ and is keen to do their bit to make it bigger and more desirable for locals and out of towners. I'm arranging some meetings with the right people to get the interest even more appealing. I believe the saying is "strike while the iron is hot".....
There is plenty of MTB stuff around Coffs. We've had a state round XC race a few times, we have regular enduro races, DH is obvious, a mountain cross course is something I'll discuss with people and the road seen (if anyone cares) is pretty good quality. Coffs Harbour may well be known as a cycling haven in a few years.

dunno about every second weekend...not even ourimbah(one of the strongest clubs) could organise races that often. we'll probably have to look at once every two months or MAYBE once a month. would be sick though, cant wait

In between getting the next event going here and building some cool stuff, I'm working on getting the local club thing happening. It won't happen unless we have a good amount of members and I'm sure we'll get that. We could race every 6 weeks I reckon on different tracks. ;)
