Go directly east from where it says "South Canberra", you'll see a small road going north from Cotter Road, at the end it says "Mt Stromlo Observatory" which may or may not have a "planet ... aaaaarium" or a "planetarium" on it. (sorry, south park joke)
You can find the start at 35°19'1.19"S 149° 0'42.63"E by my calculations.
Finish would be in the vic of 35°19'12.55"S 149° 1'14.89"E

If you are born in the listed years.
93 you are under 13
91 you are under 15
89 you are under 17
87 you are under 19
It does not matter when your birthday is in each of these years just the year of birth. See full listing

you would be in 19's. your turning 17 this year which is obviously too old for under 17's. It sucks but because in nationals you step up to the next category when your like 3-4 younger than the cut off. Does anyone know if things will stay this way or if it will eventually be changed?????
cheers

I doubt the age categories will change. Everyone rides the same categories how is it a problem? You do not ride against the big 19 year olds in Under 19, you are either 17 or 18 this year. The same for Under 17 you are either 15 or 16 this year and for Under 15 you are 14 or younger this year. 30th of December that year.
The nationals go to 2007 so everyone moves up to the age they will be at the end of the national series. a 14 year old this year riding Under 15 will ride Under 17 in the nationals which span 2006/07 like all others.

OK question for the locals.
What's the best venue that we should all aim to hook up at for drinks on Sat night? Grub isn't too important, but if the venue serves it, or is near some then that'll be sweet.
Got me a B'Day to celebrate so ya's all better come out for a beer ... or several

The main road up the cafe / what was once an observatory is allways open, but you may not be able to get access to the bottom of the run on the dirt?
Cant help you out too much more then that, haven't been out there for awhile.

Thanks Robb,
So access to the top is ok but a bit of a peddle out after a run, about 1km on a fire trail?
I would say a little bit more then 1km.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a184/demo_man/mt.jpg
Downhill run ends in the middle with the black line, would need to make your way over to the smaller red line at the bottom of the picture.
This is all provided the access gates to the dirt fire trails are closed.

27-06-2006, 08:48 PM
yeah, gates will be locked before the race.
it is not a kilomtre though, i'd say more like 500m, of riding along a smooth fairly flat dirt road to the gate, where it is then sealed to the top.
there is video footage of the track here: http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?p=683916#post683916

this guy wants to ride during the week leading up to the race - the gates will be shut then.
the gates will be open all the same times as the race is on, don't worry about that.

Will you be able to ride their this weekend or will it be closed for maintenance
Ok we rode the trail yesterday, the gate wasen't locked but we just rode out anyway it only takes a minute. The track is a lot of fun, for anyone who hasen't been I'd describe it as a 2 - 2.30 minute rock-garden.

I just watched Demo Man's "teaser" for the Stromlo race. It reminds me of the good old days when I used to ride and race in the ACT and I wish I could make it for the state round. Next time eh.....I like the fact that some trees are starting to appear on that wicked hill side again, it might keep the dust down...maybe. Good luck guys.;)

You gotta tell us what the bet was now ...
just a simple bet between 3 drunk and 2 not drunk mates. One mate saying to the other 6 foot 7 mate that he would look like a praying mantus if he rode in green skins. Big mate laughing and saying he would do it for $50 bucks thinking there was no way to find green suit.
It's funny what you can find on the net:D
Now there is one very nervous elite rider out there trying to decide whether to make $50 or to buy the suit off the other mate for $50. :(
If it were me it would be a simple choice of forking out the dollars and keeping suit for halloween:) :) :)
Please feel free to take lots of pictures as there will only be only one wearing of this suit in his race run......

i had a great weekend, i was sick as a dog on Saturday, got about 25 minutes of pretty average footage over about 5 very cold and headache-y hours. the, Sunday morning at 8:30 when i woke up, i was much better, so out of bed i hoped and grabbed my stuff and off i went, for what was one of, if not THE, best races i've ever been too.
a HUGE props and thank you needs to be given to John Myssonski and Dave McKinlay - legends. they did all the work in the lead up to the race, and i know that Dave has taken tomorrow off work just to take down all the bunting and pick up all the rubbish (Dave was the guy at the shuttle pick up spot for most of Sunday, you know who i'm talking about).
Thanks to www.dhdirect.com.au and MalAdjusted Bikes in Canberra for their supprot.
vid will be up in a few days.
